Set screw hole failure
I used this drill extension for less than 1-hour. The set screw loosened up and when I tightened it, the threads partially stripped in the metal of the extension. I could no longer tighten up the set screw to hold the bit. I called and spoke with a tech at Greenlee regarding the stripped out threads on the extension. He seemed to think it was a manufacturing defect and said that I could return it for a replacement. The defect was allegedly due to a too deep countersink done to the set screw hole during manufacturing. I believe that the problem is only partially the fault of the countersinking done to the set screw hole. It removes almost an entire thread and there are very few of these threads to begin with in the 5/16" - 24 tpi hole. They should have used slightly thicker metal in the extension receiver to provide sufficient depth for the set screw treads. So, this is what I did instead of returning the extension (which I needed to use today): I removed the set screw and slid my 7/16" hex shank bits (I have several) into the end of the extension. Then I marked each bit shank with a felt tipped pen just where the set screw normally tightens down. I then drilled a depression in each bit shank. Now the set screw can go deep enough to grab most of the threads. It seems to be working so far. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

These worked great no breaking
I bought three of these and hooked them together with a 16" 1 3/8" bit on the end to drill hole for a gas line through an 8x8 post 6' long. If you have ever done this than you know the biggest worry is you get half way through and the adapter breaks or comes unhooks from the others. You lose you bit your adapter and you can't drill in that hole any more because of all the metal stuck in the hole. These worked great no breaking, striping, no problem.

Horrible Design
The item pictured shows TWO set screws. The 24” model for a 7/16 bit I received only had one set screw that does not seat flush with the extender. I needed holes drilled down the center of 6x6 posts for running the electrical wires in the gazebo I am building. Against my better judgement, due to being in a time frame crunch, I used the extender. Now I have a $55 drill bit lost in a $150 red cedar 6x6 on the first post it was used. Yep, this sucker just hit the trash bin.

Great super bit.
My husband really liked the very long extension bit for refinishing our deck. It especially made the unscrewing the old screws easy--without bent over on the knees.

Reach out and touch something
It's not every day that you need a 24 inch bit extension for your electric drill, but when you do need one, there's no substitute for a good, well made one. This Greenlee extension is well made and got the job done.
