Highly recommend. Gives you ginger that is a liquid-y paste.
I use ginger in a lot of recipes, especially curries. If you look at independent reviews online, such as ATK, they recommend using a Microplane to mince ginger. I have a Microplane and when I use it on ginger I find that the texture is fluffy, dry, and fibrous. The texture I want to achieve with ginger is liquid-y paste because I find it melds better into the dish. This ceramic grater accomplishes this superbly, exactly the texture I want. I read a review that said this method is slower than using a microplane and I did not find that at all. The ceramic grater makes quick work of the ginger. It's also stable because of the non-slip coating on the underside and extremely easy to remove the ginger from the plate and to clean it. Highly recommend.

Grip makes this easy to use
This ceramic grater plate has a grip material on the bottom, which prevents it from sliding around while grating. The area with the teeth is slightly elevated, leaving a catch basin around to gather the gratings. The teeth are very sharp, and ginger bits cling (they wash out easily). This grater does a good job, and is better made than my original.

Works fine
It makes a paste and the water collects in the receptable which can be added to your food. It has some advantages over other graters. Get the small one (not the larger one)

Great for grating ginger
This does a great job grating ginger. It has a non-slip backing that helps keep it from moving while you are using it.

not better than my microplane
Got this on a recommendation from someone, but I don't see much upgrade over using the microplane zester or just chopping by hand (since we don't mind some bits of ginger in our food). It does work just fine, especially if you really want to make sure there are no solid pieces of ginger (you get more of a puree consistency) but it seems to take a while to get the volume you need, as so much fiber is left behind. I guess it's easier to clean that the microplane, but I never find myself reaching for it.

Perfect for Grating Ginger & Tumeric
I love ginger in almost everything and this grater makes seamless and easy to add it to whatever I'm cooking. It cleans up effortlessly and doesn't stain. I also use it for grating fresh turmeric and it works just as well. The pointy grater things are very sharp, so I do recommend using protection gloves if you are worried about being cut.

I'll never grate ginger any other way again!
Even if you only use this for grating ginger, it's still worth buying. Easy to use, easy to clean, and the juice collects in the tray as you grate.

Works great
Quickly turns garlic into a paste. Maybe a little sharp as your fingers get close but happy with purchase.

Significantly smaller than claimed; one of three possible grater options
A recently tried recipe required grating a substantial amount of fresh ginger for which a microplane was used, not for the first time, but previously only for much smaller amounts. The result this time was a grated finger, a torn fingernail and a considerable amount of wastage to help avoid further injury etc. An online search for the most recommended alternative was this "Kyocera Ceramic Grater, Ceramics/Plastic, White, 15.4 x 10 x 2.4 cm" that was suggested by two different sources; the alternative was a similar design in glass. The quoted dimensions for the product are grossly inaccurate as it is a 95mm circle and only about 20mm high, including the silicone ring beneath that makes it non-slip during use. Rather than being held tightly to prevent it moving as you grate, a light grip will suffice on a slippery surface. The model supplied is the CY-10 but there is also the CD-18 which is a larger version of the same design and includes a plastic scraper to clean between the projections and a handheld CMG-25 that looks like a microplane but using the same system as this but more widely-spaced; neither of the three match the quoted 15.4 x 10 x 2.4 cm dimensions. Each is designed for a different group of foods. It is suggested that metal tools not be used for cleaning and a stiff brush was available and used and found to be effective - quite well it would work with ginger fibres is not presently known (see closing comment below). This is said to be ideal for ginger and the similar galengal as well as elephant garlic (if and when you can find it) as the grinding surface comprises a circle of about 60mm in diameter with multiple moulded sharply-angled pyramids that grate effectively but with almost zero chance of cuts etc. There is a surrounding rim in which to collect the pulp and juices, especially of ginger, that can help flavour a recipe. Due to the nature of ginger tubers which have fibres running along the tuber, it needs to be grated across the tuber and never along it using a circular grating motion to minimise their length and number as many will supposedly be trapped among the projections. Having used all the fresh ginger purchased for the recipe, none remains for testing and there is nothing else likely to be cooked or baked in the very near future for which fresh ginger is required; a new season potato was used as a test substitute.

An amazing kitchen implement - I avoid unitaskers, but this is perfect.
I saw some reviews online talking about how incredibly useful a ceramic grater was and I picked up this to give it a shot: at first I ordered the 3(.5?) inch without realizing how small it was, and lord its tiny. But it was effective: just a bit more exhausting to use because of how small it was. More recently I "upgraded" to the full sized model and I have to say, I absolutely love it. It takes the advantages of the smaller model (grippy base to hold it in place, sharp ceramic teeth to shred ginger and hard veggies, 'moat' to pool juices around) and upgrades it all. If you want to be able to tackle ginger (or other hard things) and easily shred it to a more useable form, there is absolutely nothing I could recommend above and beyond this. Its, honestly, just absurdly easy.
