Fun bird feeder

My husband bought me this feeder for my birthday and I loved it. It was so much fun watching the birds (and squirrels) eat at this feeder. Cardinals loved it and looked so pretty sitting in the feeder. I received many compliments on this cool feeder. I only gave this feeder 4 stars because it was not made of copper or bronze and was instead made of steel with a thin "bronze finish." Rust developed after a couple of months since it was steel but the feeder lasted outside 5 years before the bottom rusted out completely. (It might help to spray the metal with Rustoleum to prevent rust.) Also small birds could crawl through the wire mesh feeding port and get stuck inside the feeder. I had to release a couple of chickadees and titmice over the years. I found that if I kept the level of bird seed higher than the feeding port there wasn't room for the small birds to crawl in. Overall a really cool feeder that held up pretty well.

My family members and I have been customers of Amazon for a very, very long time... and as a matter of family policy, we only write a review for product which are truly outstanding or are in some way a serious consumer problem... in other words, for us to take the time out of our busy day to write a product review, the product had better really impress us or raise serious concern. For this product, we found the design is great and it is very functon. While it does NOT stop squirrels from stealing seeds from your feeder, it does provide the birds with a very safe feeding station WHEN IT IS KEPT FILLED. A previous reviewer stated that they had "... purchased this feeder thinking it would be good for keeping the squirrels out. A baby cardinal got stuck inside and it's mother went in after it and they both died. It was horrible. This should not be on the market." We love all of our woodland friends (well except maybe ticks, spiders, snakes, and other creepy nasty little buggers, LOL), and do our best to make sure we use only animal friendly, safe products on our property.We truly feel that if this product was used properly and is KEPT FILLED AT LEAST 1/4 OF THE WAY AT ALL TIMES, then no smal birds (or squirrels, or chipmunks, or any other small animal for that matter) would be able to get inside. Our heart goes out to the previous reviewer for their loss, as even one poor animal dying from a man-made product is too many. However, in In their particular situation, we honestly believe that the product did not fail them, but rather that these people simply experienced a very rare and unfortunate incidence that might well have been avoided if the feeder had not been depleted of seed... thus allowing the cardinals access to the inside of the product through the opening that was meant strict for seed retrieval, not as an entry to the inside of this product. We hope that other bird-lovers will purchase this product and bear in mind that while most feeders have small openings that allow seeds to trickle out, many of the larger and more decorative ones now come will somewhat larger openings and therefore NEED to be kept filled at least 1/4 of the way at all times AND they need to be checked regularly... for weather damage, insect infestation, mold, or for need of regular routine cleaning in general. I purchased this last year & within one season the ...

I purchased this last year & within one season the screw at the top would no longer stay screwed to the base, the base is very heavy once filled with seed. I also lost a few birds that got trapped inside when the seed wasn't totally full. They stepped down in it and got turned around and couldn't get back out. :( So I took it down.
