Small/Midsized birds cannot feed from it
I bought this because my last bird feeder was destroyed by squirrels. So I put this one up, and now the feeding area is too far away for small birds like chickadees, small cardinals, orioles, etc. They fly to it. Their feet are on the cage but their beak is not long enough to get to the food. The only place they can get to it is on the very bottom level and that is food that the squirrels spill there. Yes the squirrels cannot eat through this, but they have a far easier time hanging from it, reaching in an pulling food out. So now I'm feeding squirrels more than birds. I am Going to put the old type of bird feeder back out and just put Vasoline on the shepherd's hook that I use to hang it.

Well-Designed for Feeding and Cleaning, But Broke After 5 Months
SUMMARY: This bird feeder is very well-designed for feeding and cleaning, and I really like it. But there are some design flaws that bring the rating down, particularly, the small plastic extensions that lock the tube in place at the bottom broke after just a few months, and the squirrels were able to eat through the tube. Details are below. Here is the good: - It has multiple ports up and down the tube so many birds can access the seed. - The birds seem to like the challenge of clinging to the wire cage to get the seed; this feeder attracted more birds than my previous feeders with perches. - The bottom opens up for cleaning. This is a major plus, since the dust from sunflower seed accumulates on the bottom and after a while will block the bottom ports. Opening up the tube from the bottom makes it so easy to remove the dust accumulation. Feeders with stationary floors are difficult to clean on the bottom. - It's large enough to hold enough seed for a full day or more. - The seed is protected from the rain. I've had other feeders that were open mesh, and the birds did not like the seed once it got wet and compacted. - The directions are clear, and show how to remove the cage, slipping it up off the tube for pouring the seed into the top of the tube. Here is the bad: The plastic tube that holds the seed locks into place at the bottom with a narrow plastic extension of the tube. A twist of the tube releases the tube from the bottom for cleaning. After just a few months, all the extensions broke, and the tube can no longer be held into the bottom. The only solution was to tape the bottom plate to the tube. The squirrels managed to subvert every obstacle to the feeder, and one of them not only got to the feeder, but actually ate through the plastic leaving an enormous gash in the side. So it might be squirrel resistant, but it is not squirrel proof, and the cage is no deterrent to the squirrel's getting to the plastic underneath. They can start opening up the tube by breaking the plastic at the port, and chewing it from there. I think this is a serious design flaw, particularly when it broke so soon. Without this flaw, the feeder would definitely rate a 5.

product not as described in instructions
Think I was sent the wrong product. The attached hang card described how to open & clean feeder. I have an old feeder that works like that. Instructions said to push up on bottom of feeder & twist to take apart. This isn't possible as the bottom is welded on. The top twists off to add seed but I don't find a way to take feeder apart to clean. This seems to be a cheaper version of my old feeder, which is heavier, sturdier & better made.

Arrived damaged
So far the product, a bird feeder, seems okay. It holds a ton of seed but I have not noticed any of the birds using it yet. Maybe they need to get used to it. I bought it because we have three squirrels that come to our yard as they discovered an easy food source. So far they are not robbing it. The feeder did arrive damaged. The inner tube is plastic and it was cracked due to the way Amazon packaged it. It came in a box very much too large in width with no packaging material to hold it in place so it was able to roll side to side freely causing damage. I didn't feel like submitting a claim, sending it back and waiting for a replacement. We'll see if that effects the life of the feeder or not. Too bad for the manufacturer since I will not purchase another because of the poor packaging. Not the first time I've had something arrive damaged that I've ordered off Amazon and the rocket scientist's they have working in warehouse/distribution can't figure out how to package an item correctly.

Description is incorrect
The description says this feeder can be hung or pole mounted. It is strictly a hanging feeder.

Good Buy
Purchased this feeder after using a similar feeder with great success for years. I had to use a baffle to keep the squirrels away from the previous feeder, but that has not been a problem so far with this feeder. (Could be because it is hanging vs. pole-mounted -- see below -- or could be because I have trained my squirrels well over the years... lol) PROS: Holds a LOT of seed, with multiple ports for birds to feed at. I regularly have a half-dozen or more birds on my feeder at once and this holds enough seed to last a couple of days. Easy to fill and clean. Just rotate and drop down the center portion to fill. Detach the plastic inner tube for thorough cleaning. Bonus: The red color also attracts hummingbirds, who apparently mistake it for a hummingbird feeder! They will hover for a few seconds, checking it out, before moving on. CONS: As with all of these types of feeders, the center plastic tube is its weak point. I've used the feeder for several months now and it is fine, but I can see where the glue might give way over time or it might crack if not handled with care. After just a couple of months, the red color started to fade. It is now more of a rust color than bright red. It does not work well as a pole-mounted feeder, although there is a hole in the bottom for this purpose. I had ordered a universal bird feeder pole hoping to be able to mount this feeder on top, but the configuration of the bottom of this feeder wouldn't allow me to do that with this pole. I had to settle for hanging it from the pole. Took the birds a couple of days to adjust to this, but they've adapted just fine.

Great feeder, but poor quality seed insert.
This can hold an awful lot of seed, its much bigger than you think, the birds love it and you don't have to fill it up everyday. We get loads of birds on the feeder all day long. We have squirrels in the garden and although they have climbed all over the feeder, they soon gave up and went away. Just the job! So, why did I only give it 2 stars? Well, we got up one day and the plastic insert had dropped out of the cage and broken. Not just cracked, the thing has broken in two along the joins and the bottom edge has broken, so you can't even glue it back together. It is poorly made with fragile plastic. The feeder was empty the day before so I can't imagine anything climbed on it and dislodged it. It was a bit windy, but nothing that would make you worry. None of our other feeders were damaged, but they are all different types. I

I am quite happy with the size
This thing is HUGE. Just so you know, the pictures don't do it justice and the measurements that are provided, however accurate, just don't prepare you for how big this actually is when it's hanging from a tree. Especially if you're coming from a smaller bird feeder. This isn't really a negative or positive comment in that regard, I suppose that is subjective to the buyer. I am quite happy with the size. The hanging mechanism and parts all seem pretty well made and durable. The plastic insert I can see becoming a problem as it wears out over the months and harsh winters and other weather changes we get here. Unfortunately, I have been unable to source out a replacement insert, so this might be a point of complaint for me in the future. The other thing with this feeder, is the lack of attention it is getting. My previous feeder had swarms of birds at it daily, even on the day it was swapped out to this one. I'm not sure if the birds are scared of this one, or just don't trust it yet, but I have not seen any birds near this thing since I got it. The bird seed level hasn't moved in 3 weeks. On the plus side, this also goes for the squirrels. They won't go near it either. I really don't know much about bird behaviour to know why they're avoiding this thing. I'm hoping they just need some time to get used to it before they return. This is why I gave a 3-Star rating for the product, as for the time being, it is the reason no birds are visiting my front tree anymore, and kind of defeats the purpose of the bird feeder. I'll certainly adjust accordingly if the birds come back and I can give a better review of how the interaction with wildlife and this product go, and durability with actual use. Right now, it's just a bird feed storage device hanging from a tree.

Disposable product
When it worked it worked well. A simple design that effectively kept the squirrels out. However, the critters got to it within a few weeks. Somehow they managed to remove the clear acrylic tube that holds the seeds and destroyed it. No problem I thought... get a replacement tube. There's only 3 parts to this feeder and the cage and bottom clasp (being made of metal) were perfectly intact. The issue is that replacement parts aren't sold so I have to throw it away. So now I will purchase a more expensive product that sells replacement parts. I'm baffled and confused that the manufacturer doesn't sell simple acrylic tubes.

Great feeder. Can't keep it full. It's bird central on this feeder????????
Great size. I was surprised at the size of it when it arrived. Easy to fill, but as soon as the birds discover it, good luck keeping it full. I would recommend this for anyone.
