Not very useful.
I put new batteries on it, and it worked fine the first few days, afterwards I guess the sucking power wasn't enough and nothing was coming out when hovering my hand to the sensor, and also when turned on the blue light on top was red, so I don't know if an issue with the dispenser or it is draining the battery very quickly.

Sensor stopped working
Even with new batteries this thing does not work! I had it not even a good month and it doesnt work anymore and whats worse is I cant even get a refund as the window to return is closed. Waist of my money.

Could be better
The media could not be loaded. I own two simplehuman automatic hand soap dispensers but the capacity is too small and I find myself refilling very often. So I got the GermGuardian for its large 500mL capacity. While the capacity is twice as big, the technology is definitely lacking. The GermGuardian uses 4 AA batteries (not included). In order to access the battery compartment, I must unscrew the lid and put the lid upside down. This could be messy if there’s any soap residue on the tube. The battery compartment cover is a bit difficult to pry open, I had to use a scissor to help. It’s pretty simple to use. There’s a touch sensitive button on the top, long press to turn on/off, quick 2 presses to change between thinner soap to thicker soap dispensing. No way to adjust how much soap it will dispense though. Since I usually like to use thicker soaps, it recommends the high volume dispensing mode. I find the high volume dispensing mode dispensing a bit too much soap for my liking so I ended up using the low volume dispensing (that’s recommend for thinner soaps). The sensor works quickly but with thicker soaps, it takes a little while for it to finish dripping. I like the clear bottle because I know exactly when it needs to be refilled. However, the bottle opening is very small, therefore, making it difficult to refill the bottle. This hands free soap dispenser is useful, especially for times like this. It’s good but not great. Decent value at the current listed price of $28.14.

Finicky dispenser, hard to add batteries, doesn't work with foaming soap
The search continues for a truly functional, non-commercial usage hands free soap dispenser. This Germ Guardian option is yet another with wonky sensor, a tube that is finicky in when it pumps liquid, then finally it's inability to work with anything of the foaming variety. The final point isn't even mentioned anywhere in the product description...isolated to smallest mention in the manual. Moreover, battery design is simply weird. It loads 4 AA's in a very difficult to manipulate panel underneath the dispenser head, almost inviting disaster from spilled liquid and/or a poor seal. Why they didn't embed this to the side or top of the dispenser head is beyond me. Perhaps this useful for hand sanitizer or basic hand soap only. It took me a half dozen reload attempts to get it to pump any dish soap. I like that it detects non-hands (to drop soap into pots/pans), but the sensor - like most - starts/stop prematurely. The one bright spot is that it looks nice...and the clear chamber a nice touch [in ascertaining amount of liquid remaining). Still, I can't recommend this at $30.

So far so good
I have purchased way to many automatic hand soap machines over the last year and a half, maybe 7 or 8 of them. Either they were total garbage, or they worked great for about a monthly so and then stopped working. Only one was a name brand and the rest were all off brands. I was hopeful that this Germ Guardian one would provide better results. So far so good! The batter door is a bit difficult to open as others have mentioned. My worry is that the batteries are going to die right after I fill it up and I will then have to flip it over and end up with a mess. Fingers crossed that won’t happen! As far as how well it works, I really have no complaints. You can choose one of two settings which dictates how much soap will come out each time. Technically they say more liquid like soaps would be the first setting and thicker soaps would be the second, but I found them to be interchangeable. Basically all it changed was the amount of soap that came out. I have had no issues at all with the sensor, it works every single time without multiple waves. And it also has not triggered at all when it was not supposed to, so no complaints there. The big question is: will it last longer than a month? That my friends is still to be seen, but I’m hopeful!

GermGuardian SD410 Automatic Hands Free Soap and Sanitizer Dispenser
Got this dispenser to use in the kitchen. Had one in the past that I really liked but it broke and stopped working. This one is ok. It was hard to open and put the batteries in but once they were put in, and the soap put into the dispenser, everything seems to be working fine. It does seem like I am refilling every other day but it is used in the kitchen. I do like that you can use soap or hand santizier in this dispenser but for now will be using soap. All in all, I liked the last one I had much better but this one is okay. It does what it's supposed to do.

Mostly awesome...
I find that my household washes their hands more often if there's an auto soap dispenser. Why? Goodness knows. But with all the funk going around these days, I'm fine with it - I'll bite! The soap settings for this germ guardian dispenser are nearly perfect - I prefer the "lower" setting. I have another dispenser from a different brand that puts out too much soap per pump. It registers motions just fine and doesn't seem overly sensitive to movement. I'm disappointed that the bottom of this device is the world's cheapest plastic. I feel like if it should fall it will be super dented. I wish it was glass or at least a thicker plastic. The compartment for the batteries is above the soap - which seems odd to me. It works just fine, but it seems like a fine line of separation between your electrical and some liquid. I could be over-thinking it. Maybe it's "good enough." :-) The pump is louder than I anticipated. It's not a big deal, it just seems like it should be quieter for such a small device. Overall, I'm happy to have this on my counter to get my family to wash their hands more often. I would buy again.
