Amazing customer support

I've only used the finder once and it's fine. It was packaged with a mounting base that was deformed a bit. From the Garmin website, I filled out a customer service form at nearly midnight. I was surprised to get a reply only 30 minutes later (after midnight). The representative had explained that he'd sent a separate e-mail and all I had to do was finish the order. I entered my address for delivery, price and shipping was already populated in red for me (no charge) and the new base arrived quickly. EXCELLENT customer service and a good product for the price. I lowered my "EASY to read" rating because the original Striker 4 had more pixels, more vivid colors and was easier to read even though it was a smaller screen (3.5" vs 4.3").

Awesome fish finder

Super easy to use . I use it on my kayak with the transducer in hull. Works perfect . Great gps and waypoints .

Takes the guess work out !

Game changer! I bought this for myself. I like to take my friends and family out fishing but I got tired of guessing where that dang school of fish is. Bottom line is that I put this unit in the boat and then we see the fish, throw the bait, catch the fish. What more can you ask for. You'll notice the Garmin striker in the photo. I know how to catch fish. That was never the issue. My catch rate per time spent on the water has greatly increased. Glad I have one.

Very impressed

Beware: it shows you the fish and the jig that the fish don't want to eat! Really though, amazing electronics and I'm very happy with it. Active Captain is frustratingly obtuse, however. Currently using it on my inflatable yak with YakAttack mounts and powered by Nocqua 10Ah battery (plenty of juice for a couple days of fishing)

Love it, for a low priced finder, you can’t beat it.

For a 9” inch screen and how it works, I’m more then happy. Is it as good as my hummingbird? I don’t know, but it’s a very nice finder. The side scan works very well, when you get use to using it, the color pallets are pleasing to look at.. Like I said I’m happy. The best fish finder in the world, still won’t make the fish you see bite. Although it sure is fun seeing them even when they don’t bite.

Okay for a starter sonar

I use this in a kayak. The downview is NOT "like a photograph" at all, but it IS helpful to verify targets. I have to leave "fish ID" on because I'm using it to find crappie and panfish, which don't really show arches....I put my trust in the electronics to know a fish when it "sees" one.

This should be a lot better

This is an ok product, but it doesn't do anything particularly well. The interface is lousy. You have to got way too many buttons to get to commonly used settings. The clearvu offers no advantage over the traditional sonar. It's literally the same image in a different color. It's so grainy that it's worthless. The tradition sonar actually gives more information because of the multiple colors. The accuracy/detail of this unit is low compared to slightly higher end models. Everything is just blobs. There's not enough information graphed to be really helpful. This unit is very low on features. The mapping feature is useless. Plotting points requires way too many buttons presses to use. If you just need a basic sonar, save some money and get the lowest end striker model. The regular traditional sonar will give just add much real information as is available on the more expensive model. Or, get something like the deeper sonar that uses your phone for a head unit, has real mapping, a better interface, real maps and constant updates/support. Battery life being the drawback.

Pretty good

I wish I were able to download and share map data but sadly I can’t. The contour mapping feature is easy to use and quite accurate. Sadly the depth finder doesn’t work well above 10 mph. So I had to basically crawl around my lake plotting the shallow areas but once mapped it’s very nice. Screen is bright and easy to see in bright daylight.

Follow the manual directions for transducer placement if you want to get top performance.

This unit does everything you need in a fishing boat. Display is able to show depth, water temperature, speed, time, voltage, direction and of course fish at depth on one screen. I have limited experience with fish finders and am the kind of guy that likes to play and figure things out. I had the unit set up to display what I preferred inside of an hour. Anyone who is familiar with fish finders would do the same thing in minutes. I also used the mapping and set way points. The display is very nice even in a split view mode. I am very, very pleased with this unit.
