So Far So Good....

I bought this towel a few days ago and started using it this week. I don't see a huge difference between this and an ordinary towel except that it is longer and lighter. The towel covered the whole mat and is easy to carry around compared to the normal bath towel. It is very lightweight. It does tend to move during my bikram yoga practice so I have to constantly fix it and it also does not prevent slipping. Another con of the towel is it has to be line dried and cannot go into the dryer. I'm afraid this can be a problem during the winter since I practice rather regularly. I am not sure how fast the towel will dry during the winter without using the dryer. I am currently alternating this towel with my normal bath towel. Compared to the more expensive towels, this is an OK towel - not the best or the greatest, but serves its purpose (especially when you have to take public transit to get to the studio). I will wait and see how this towel holds out before deciding if I want to buy the more expensive ones. 11/08/10 UPDATE: I have been using this towel for awhile and starting to really like it. I bought another one of these for my bikram yoga practice. Towel dries fast even if you don't put it in the dryer. It is also light weight; which makes it lighter and easier to carry around. I just move my towel for poses which I am prone to slip. This is the cheapest towel so far that I have found for my bikram yoga practice. There are a few nuances but it does its job. If you do not want to spend more than $30 for a yoga towel, then this is something you should definitely consider.

I do yoga on my back porch and Florida summers are brutal no matter how early in the morning it is. I was always slipping and sliding on my mat. This towel is the solution! It's soft, comfortable and super absorbent. From the other reviews, yes it does not always stay in place. I expected this might be an issue when I first purchased it but it hasn't bothered me that much. It has made a huge difference in my yoga routine. So glad I bought it!

I bought this after starting Hot Yoga and trying out a bunch of different towels to figure out what is the best. After receiving this one, I was surprised to find the microfiber similar to scratchy microfiber from car washing towels or something similar. It was a very different material from the others. I decided it wasn't worth it for me to try it, and returned it. For me, the best I have found so far is either 1) Manduka Yogitoes (expensive) or 2) IUGA non-slip yoga towel (extra large--is the same size as my Manduka Pro mat).

For those of you trying to compare this towel to the yogitoes let me make it easy for you, it's like comparing apples to oranges. I do heated yoga at Core Power about 5-7 times per week and normally use the yogitoes with the grip dots but at about $60 a piece and having to wash it after every use it gets expensive so I thought I would try something different. As for this towel it's actually not bad but really can't compare the quality between the two. You get what you pay for. I still use this towel in my rotation and it does move a little more but it's not that bad. Yoga is about much more than the towel you use. For those who complain about it falling apart after washing well of course it will after enough use. I wash and hang dry all my yoga towels and so far they seem to last a long time (including this one). The color on this towel is great and it does the job but my preference is still the yogitoes because the grip dots .

Choose your mat wisely

I bought this towel several weeks ago to try and protect my mat from the huge amount I typically sweat during practice. I gambled on this over 'grippy' towels (Yogitoes Skidless Premium Mat-Size Yoga Towel ), I wanted to test for myself how well a normal towel would grip. I must say that I have had no problems with the towel slipping off my mat (aJade Harmony Professional 3/16-Inch Yoga Mat ), wet or dry it doesn't budge on the mat unless peeled off. However, this will probably depend on exactly what mat you use. Although I haven't had issues with the towel slipping on my mat, I have had problems with my hands and feet slipping on the towel. At best the towel is substantially less sticky than a dry mat alone, and after several practices without washing, the towel can become nearly unusable. This can be remedied by washing the towel, or wetting it before the practice, which increases traction slightly. If you own a Jade Yoga mat or a mat of similar grippy-ness, don't bother with silicon grip towels like Yogitoes, instead search for a towel that has better skin-towel traction. If anyone knows of such a towel I would greatly appreciate a comment.

Works well on regular carpet

This towel is made of a fairly thin (compared to a normal towel, but thicker than a lot of microfiber cleaning cloths) microfiber material with one smooth side (top with Gaiam logo) and terry looped bottom. I like the smokey purple color - it is an understated medium dusty lavendar, not too grey. The size is good, both width and length - no issues for me. This yoga towel works well for my use. I use it on top of standard textured wall-to-wall carpet to provide a softer surface for both yoga and various exercise DVDs. The back terry side sticks to the carpet and does not slide (when done, I kind of have to peel it off of the carpet like velcro). Also, I have not experienced slippage on the top side while exercising. The towel easily folds up to a small size for storage when done (easier than rolling and storing a regular yoga mat). It washes and dries just fine with a normal load of towels and has held up well so far. It is a bit expensive but has performed well for me, so I would recommend it.

It does the job

It’s alright...although it does move. If you want better quality, buy elsewhere otherwise this does the trick for us normal yoga going folks

very slippery, not for hot yoga

The colour is nice, but it slips a lot. I had to put a lot of water to reduce slipping, but it was not comfortable. I was more worried about the towel than concentrate on my class. Definitely not useful for hot yoga, it seems more a polar blanket than a towel. There are others in the market cheaper and much better quality.
