Good Product. Watch the metal bristles on the way in though..
This is the first time I have used a bore snake. I'm new to gun maintenance, so I wanted an easy method to keep my shotgun as clean as I could between more thorough cleanings. The cord and actual snake part of the product are strong. I put some Hoppe's No. 9 bore cleaner on the snake part just proximal to the shoulder of the rope where it is intentionally frayed. I put a good amount on. I've run it through several times, and it certainly comes out with a good bit of carbon build up. My only caution is that where the brass bristles come out of the snake rope itself…be careful to feed that into the chamber by hand as you pull the rope along or it will scratch up your receiver area pretty good. Just feed the rope along until it enters the bolt/chamber area. Otherwise, I think this is great for using right after leaving the range. I can see where it will prolong the time between actual take-down cleanings.

Hoppe's makes the best Boresnake type cleaning floss
I have pretty much every caliber available in these Boresnakes, both rifle and handgun, and love them. They are great for a quick cleaning at the range, or any time you don't want to spend too much time doing a full cleaning. You don't even have to break down the weapon; just clear it and drag the snake through it a couple of times. Done. Warning - These are NOT the same quality as some of the other knockoffs, like RangeMxxx... I have had several of the 'off' brands, and some don't even fit in the weapon. (For example I had a RangeMxxx .223 that wouldn't even fit in the barrel.) Hoppe's is the best of the snakes, and since I have 9 of them, I feel confident in saying that.

Plain and Simple, It Works
Bought this for a 12g shotgun as an alternative to rod cleaning. I have not been disappointed. There is a small section of brass brushes that knock down any big pieces of residue and the rest of the snake comes through to get the really small stuff. Pull it through a few times and it's pretty well clean. There's a few reviews that say this won't clean as well as rods and I would say that's true but for a shotgun this cleans more than sufficiently. My only knock on this product is that I don't think it cleans as well as the newer version. I think the newer version is a bit more aggressive. That does how ever make the new version slightly harder to pull through. Overall, at this price point and for what I paid for it, I would do again.

A Must-Have For Any Serious Shotgunner
Every once in a while a product comes along that just changes the rules. This is one of those products. If you shoot a lot, this will make cleaning your bore quick and easy. Great for a quick field / range cleaning, and only takes a few seconds to clean and lube your bore. It will get most, if not all, of the gunk out with just a few passes. Use it as a temporary quick clean, or when giving your gun that pre / post season tear down. You can use it with your favorite CLP, or good 'ol Hoppe's #9 solvent on the brush end, with your favorite gun oil on the tail end. When needed, just wash it in a bucket or basin and let air dry, it's ready to go again. I have 2 of these that I keep in zip-lock bags, one in my field pack, and one in my range bag. Get one and use it, and it will change your gun cleaning forever.

BoreSnakes are Great Cleaning Tools
I got this to clean 12 gauge hunting shotguns. If you haven't used a BoreSnake before, you are really missing out. The combination of brush and rope-patch section are just great. They are washable and reusable. I would really recommend these in all the calibers you shoot regularly. It makes cleaning a snap. If you are curious how it works, you simply drop the little weight on the end of the black cord through the throat of the barrel and catch it as it exits the muzzle (put it in back by the trigger and pull it out where the shot comes out). You then just pull on that black chord and the brush will enter the barrel with the soft rope following. I was a bit worried about the toughness of this black cord, but I can really pull it without any worries. Pull it all the way through and you have made the equivalent of one brush and patch pass-through. Do that a few times and then run a clean patch through and you should be just about done. Don't forget theHoppe's No. 9 Powder Solvent, 5 Ounce Clam E/F .

This will get the job done better than really any alternative I've seen.
These Boresnakes are one of the greatest inventions ever. With just a few passes this will get even the dirtiest barrel spotless. This is so easy to use, even a cavemen could do it. In fact I know a lot of Marines that do. I even used one of these to clean the snot out of a crappy Mosin Nagant barrel, and it practically polished the bore improving its groupings. Obviously the BoreSnakes for rifle and pistol calibers can be used on several similar sizes, and they work exceedingly well on all the sizes in their range. For a small investment you can own four or five of these and clean the barrel of practically every rifle you own. These last forever as well. I clean them by throwing in with the rags when I do laundry. I've yet to have one of the brass weights fall off in the dryer.

12 gauge shotgun. Definitely NOT a complete cleaning.
I fired 25 shells thru the gun. I was very disappointed that it did not clean completely. I ran two patches thru the barrel with Hoppe's No. 9 solvent and then two clean patches, just to get most of the fouling out. Then I ran the brand new Boresnake thru 4 times, dry. Looking in the barrel, it was apparent that it was not clean, so I ran a slightly oiled, clean patch thru it and that is what you see in the two photos. It may work fine for a quick field cleaning but definitely NOT cleaned well enough to put back in storage. If anyone sees that I did not do it correctly, please let me know.

BoreSnake Just What a Lazy Shotgunner Needs
I hate the dirty job of cleaning my shotgun after hunting season. It can sit for weeks as I avoid the task. One pass through each barrel of the O/U was amazing! Of course, one needs to clean up the other areas from handling or residue and oil the barrels for storage. Pulling through the new snake was a bit rough on the hands. One needs to at least use gloves to insure that the hands are not cut up. I was thinking that a short piece of dowel or any short piece of wood could be used to wrap the cord around to pull the snake through and save the hands. I would also caution one to make sure that you are clear of the O/U ejectors, especially the ones like my Franchi that extend and could be caught by the snake and damaged if not careful.
