Best Tip-Ups - great price
I have bought these in all colors and variations (yellow, orange, Black and yellow) for my husband for Ice-Fishing on more than one occasion! To say he absolutely loved them is an understatement! Our family fishes in Northern Michigan A LOT (pretty much lives out there from morning dark till after dark in the evening on his days off). He is a very avid fisherman in all species of fish in Michigan (in every season) but especially in the Winter. I will not deny the false positive that others have complained about - we have had high wind which will once and while cause a false flag but a whole lot more infrequently than ALL of our other above ground and handmade tip-ups. There is NO perfect Tip-up- if there were I’d say this would have to be it with all the tip-up we have used. They do store in the bucket nicely and go on and off the ice easily in the jet sled. The ONLY downside is sometimes when you really start catching a lot of fish and you have to take the tip up off the hole a lot and let it sit on the ice/snow while you are putting minnows on or adding bigger hooks or wire leaders, ice can build up on the top side of the pivot mechanism just enough for it to be really hard to collapse it back down when it comes time to pack up (usually in the dark - which is another feature we love as some of the frabill tipips (not the orange one) have indicator lights on the flag that flash when you get a hit - if you don’t plan to fish with tip ups after dark the orange one is good enough) Anyway the freezing pivot mechanism above the line - It’s not totally design related - it’s high use of dipping into water and taking it out over and over - it’s just weather and just life - nothing you can really do when it gets that cold - everything freezes up and has a hard time With a lot of use. When my car doors freeze shut during a polar vortex - I don’t call the dealer or the manufacturer and complain - it’s just life ????????‍♀️ We just bring the tip-ups home and thaw it on an old towel and let it warm up and dry out which isn’t a bad thing to do anyway from time to time. Good luck out there - enjoy your new tip ups - you won’t be sad you chose these! Frabill rocks!!!

Would not buy again.
Just got this tip up and am trying to set it up in the kitchen. It’s well built, and I feel like as far as build quality is concerned, excellent value. That being said, the functionality is horrendous. When I go to set the flag, the upward force of the spring makes the down shaft rotate away and trip it. It’s VERY precarious. And not in a good way. I had to degrease the whole system for it to have justttt enough friction for it to actually hold in place. I’m concerned that this poorly tuned trigger is going to cause a LOT of false flags. Ice, wind, and freezing conditions are only going to add to the difficulty I had successfully setting it. I considered gluing a small piece of rubber on the trigger where the flag post rests in the set position. I think this would increase the friction in the joint and make it actually hold better. I’m gunna take it out next week and give it a good field test and will update my review as needed. I also plan to cough up a bit more dough and buy a quality, wooden tip up. You get what you pay for, I was just hoping at this price point I could find a better value for my money. Overall: maybe a good buy for a first timer (ice fishing) like me to get my feet wet, but would not recommend at all for a serious fisherman, but then again the serious ice fishermen already knew that lol… Edit after a month of heavy use: The flag was not holding because the shaft needed to be pushed down. I was able to push the shaft down so that the flag rested at more of a 90 degree angle with the shaft. This allowed for it to be held in place easily. I like this and it works, but I prefer my Other Frabill tip ups without the orange insulated design. They are simpler, easier to set, and knocking a little ice outta the hole is no huge deal for half the price and almost equal functionality. Had this pro-thermal arrived ready-to-use, I would have been more satisfied as it took a week to realize I could push the shaft down.

Trust this review, I know whats up-
I just got two of these in the mail yesterday. I fished all day yesterday in zero degree weather. obviously both my tip up holes froze in minutes so im excited to see how these do once i get them out on the ice this weekend. But heres my initial assessment- Upon opening this tip up I was sure I was gonna return it. The damn flag would not stay down no matter what, which is what another review said. Then I realized you need to push the rod down through the round part lowering the flag and keeping it securely down. I laughed at how stupid I felt afterward, but theres nothing in the directions that explain this. It only says to put the line rod in the vertical position and start drinking your beer. Or atleast thats what I read. Anyway, you have to push much harder than you think cause it comes very tight from the factory. I'll update after this weekend and test it vs. my normal tip ups. Also, I'll def be changing the line it comes with, its way too thin. 50 lb test is the only way to go. Ok I just got back from e day weekend ice from shiny trip where the temps ranged from -25 to 20 over the 3 days. Out of 9 guys who all had tip ups the only ones who had holes that didn't freeze were the guys who had this tip up or ones just like it. I really like it for that reason but do think the line needs to be changed. If you have a 10" auger this will fall in the hole, but it will float. But I have an 8 inch auger, which is what I recommend. I'd like to see if I could achieve similar results from using a piece of plywood with a line cut out to cover the home with a reg tip up. If it works I'll repost the results.

Best used with a 10" auger. Does exactly as promised.
It fits perfectly in a 10" hole. Gotta watch that setting of the flag. Pops easy unless you unscrew the crank a few turns to give it more grip space. Never have to worry about the hole icing over.

Best bang for buck for this style
Love this tip up, no hole freezing in -30, easiest and fastest to setup like very fast to setup. Floats in my 10” hole perfectly or would sit on ice for a 8”. I like that it floats in place personally. Added orange construction ribbon to the black flag for visibility. Haven’t used the light yet Into dark but out of the two I ordered only one tip up light actually works so my only peeve but didn’t buy it for the light. Don’t pay extra for the other model already spoiled with crap line. Get this one instead and spoil it yourself with your trusted brand and weight of line. You will not be disappointed. Landed a 26.6” walleye on her last weekend. Tight lines!!!!

Work great
Works great only downfall is the flags are a little fragile but in -20 most plastics are, they kind of float in a 10” hole probably best suited for an 8” hole

Nice on the Ice!!!
Great tip-up! Ultra-fancy! Probably more than I need for Trout fishing but might try for Pike in the future!

Decent product could be easier on the price
The price could be a little easier but it is a decent tip up but then again everyone’s been using these for the last 10 years so what’s really to review about
