Second Purchase
This is my second firepit of the exact same like model. I've had the first one for exactly one year and I bought this one to replace the old one. Here's my review after 12 months of considerable use: PRO's: - The brass ring is comfortable to rest your feet on. Supports plenty of weight for everyone's feet. - The diameter is generous and holds plenty of firewood. - It's not too heavy to handle alone (to slide around or pick up if you're a strong). CON's: - I live on the water and I get a lot of ocean spray so it did rust. The rust is like a fine powder coating all around and has slowly replace much of the original black coating. - The feet left some small rust spots on my wood decking, but not really that bad. - The spark shield completey disentegrated from the rust after about 8 months. All that is left is the frame of the spark shield which I threw away. Why did I buy this again? 1. Because this time I bought a tarp for the pit (to cover it from ocean spray durning the windy months). This should extend the life of the firepit. 2. I love the brass ring around the pit so you can prop your feet up as your read a book or listen to music/podcasts. 3. Relatively cheap and light compared to all the other brass/copper/clay pits, which are heavier (don't want too much weight bearing down on my deck with everyone sitting around it). 4. There are no sizable air vents along the side and in essence it's a bit trough. Therefore almost no air gets sucked into the pit when the fire is kicking up initially. You'll find yourself blowing into the pit to get things kicked up if you're using only real wood and no starter logs. Recommend: - This time around I got 4 bricks to put the under the feet so the feet don't rust into my wood deck. - I will drill holes all around the sides of the pit towards the bottom to achieve better air flow for when the wood burns during the initial startup.

Great pit, great price!
We did a lot of research prior to making our first fire pit purchase. When we saw this fire pit, we immediately read all of the reviews. For us, this fire pit was much more visually striking than ANY of the other fire pits we'd seen, and the price was perfect. We realized that because it was a lower price than other high-end fire pits, we'd likely be getting "what we paid for". Admittedly, that was rather untrue, and we were very pleasantly surprised! There are reviews from people who experienced significant rust problems due to living near ocean water, or living in rainy areas - we didn't live in either of those types of areas, so we weren't very worried. We did take heed, however, and move the fire pit to sheltered areas when rain was coming. (You could alleviate this by purchasing the cover...) Did it rust a bit over time? Sure. Were we thinking it absolutely wouldn't or shouldn't? No, of course not. Was it a big deal to us? Not at all. The outside ring is sizeable, and perfectly comfortable and sturdy enough for multiple people to prop up their feet. The weave of the spark cover really restricts most everything from coming at you. Even with significant pops and cracks, it held most of the flying sparks in. The weight of the fire pit is hefty enough for you to feel like it's substantial, but *just* light enough for one person to muscle if you need to move it to a different location. Certainly nothing for two people to carry. Unlike other commenters, we actually liked that there weren't air holes at the bottom of the barrel. It kept the fire (once started) from burning out too quickly. Did it make it *a little* harder to get the fire going? Not *really*... If we needed an extra boost, we grabbed a piece of newspaper. All in all, awesome purchase. We recently moved, and our old neighbors asked to keep our fire pit. So we're repurchasing the EXACT same one. That's how happy we were with the purchase. :-)

Overall, a good solid firepit.
This is a solid, deep, good sized, nice looking fire pit. It is as heavy as I hoped it would be. The bottom has four 1/2" holes drilled in it to help with drainage and airflow. The holes are covered with welded in place steel angles to prevent clogging. The legs are sturdy. All parts fit together well. No pieces were missing. It took about 30 minutes to assemble at a slower pace. Assembly was easy with a crescent wrench and a screwdriver. The cover is a typical fire pit steel mesh cover. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because unlike the rest of the unit, the screws holding the 4 piece rail section in place will probably not hold up to the pressure of people putting their feet against it and thus the rail should be viewed as for decorative purposes only. When moving the unit it should probably be lifted at the legs and not by the rail. It also is a steel rail painted to a copper color as opposed to an actual "copper rail". Still, this unit is sturdier than many freestanding steel fire pits and looks nice. I'm happy with it.
