Pen shaped encased diamond sharpener

The lakes dancing threads of early morning mist raced by at approx. 43 mph. I couldn't go any faster due the burning chill was incredibly painful to my exposed skin. The day was miserable; wet, cold, and windy. Small whitecaps slapping the side of my boat. Six pound test and an artificial bait; That silver-side should have never hit a bait like that but it did. I have used the EZ-Lap for a number of years now and it is getting harder to find but it is worth the hunt. I sharpen / maintain my small knives with it and most factory hooks with little or no effort. This equipments sublime efficency is almost lost with its easy use. It is not a large job sharpener but it will keep a large hook or a blade's edge with little effort. That silver side (rainbow) tail walked, body slapped the surface of the lake and jumped to my hearts desire. What a magnificent display for survival. It was the only aggresive fish of the trip and I was able to land it and get a photo along with a few other fish due to my hook points being sharpened with the EZ-Lap. Respectfully: M. Convenient for light use.

I don't use diamond sharpeners a lot, but I've found this convenient for light use. It's mainly used on odd shapes that a flat sharpener wouldn't be good for. Someday I want to fix the kitchen bread knife that has a wide serrated blade. I've also used it on small yard tools... which easily brings a nice shine to an oxidized edge (easy way of telling that the blade is sharp enough). Make sure whatever you're sharpening is CLEAN BEFORE use. Gunk getting in the diamonds will reduce effectiveness. Glass cleaner sprayed onto a paper towel is usually enough. Also don't use a lot of pressure like with a stone (the stone guys will tell you to not use high pressure, anyways). At the microscopic level, diamonds are very coarse and will easily remove metal with medium-light pressure. A lot of pressure will just break them or pop them free of their bonding to the base.

good for more than just sharpening.

I had bought a slightly larger sharpener from these people at a store about 30 years ago. It is still serving me well. This smaller one has a pen type clip so it holds itself in my shirt pocket. They smooth out over time but mine is new so it is still a little rough. That came in handy a couple of days ago when I gave myself a hangnail. I remembered I had this in my pocket so I took it out and used it to trim my hangnail. It worked fine so I filed the rest of my fingernails while I had it out. I bet that's not in the advertisements! After a while, when using it to sharpen steel edges wears off the roughness, I will no longer be able to use it as a fingernail file, but I enjoyed the experience. My hangnail did, too I recommend this. How many times have you needed a sharp blade and the one you had just wasn't?

Awesome sharpener for home or on the go

The EZE-LAP S Pen Type Sharpener is an awesome, portable sharpener that has worked on all my knives, scissors, and fishing hooks so far. The portable size is one of my favorite features; easily fits in your pocket or a small pocket in a bag/tool kit, or backpack for on the go/hiking. I gave some of my general use and kitchen knives a few runs over the sharpener at around a 40 degree angle, brought the knives back to a razor sharp edge and they pass the paper test with excellent results (run the knife/tool through a piece of paper lightly, clean cut = sharp blade). I tested them on a think receipt and had clean cuts with almost no pressure. Great results and extremely satisfied with this sharpener.

Every tackle box needs one

All of my tackle boxes have some sort of hook sharpener in them and I will say this one rates at the top. It does not take up any room to speak of and is so easy to pull the cover tube off and place it on the end for a handle. I find at times with smaller hooks, I don't even put the handle on so I can work with just the sharpening rod (easier to hold when working with small hooks). Have used it for touching up my pocket knife in the boat, but it is a bit small for serious knife sharpening and EZE-LAP does offer better models for this. I have shifted my sharpeners in the tackle boxes and the EZE-LAP S Pen Type is now in my main boxes that get about 90% of all my fishing use. I have no problem recommending this sharpener to anyone for their tackle box. Once you use it, you will be hooked. . . .and so will the fish

Try it you will like it.

I'm a fishing guide and use these hook sharpeners every day I'm on the water. I never leave home without them. It takes me about a year to wear one out. That means the average recreational fisherman will probably get between 3 to 5 years of use before its time to buy a new one. The sharpener is effective with just a few swipes on each side of the hook. It is possible to put a better sharper point on the hook than the manufacturer does. I can sharpen my 3 to 5 - 0 EWG worm hooks in under 30 seconds. That is much faster than tying on a new hook. Not to mention the cost saving.
