Good medium size but rough material
I hoped that my husband would like this for his birthday present but it was too rough on his sensitive hands. Good size but material was rough.

Good for the price, but a few minor issues
I bought this primarily to use as a day bag when traveling in Europe for three weeks. Wanted something big enough to hold a book, water, food, and extra layer, but would also be small enough to pack into a full-size backpack for travel days. This fit the bill. As other people have mentioned, many European museums will let you take a purse(ish) bag inside, but will make you check a backpack (but rules varied from place to place). I was comparing this to several small "messenger bag" style bags and am happy I chose this instead. The size is actually quite nice. The main compartment is a rectangle that can hold quite a bit (e.g. two thick travel guides, food, and two water bottles or two water bottles, one book, one light jacket, and food). Works best when loaded mostly full, but not bulging. If you bulge the sides out, it doesn't ride well, and the front flap doesn't close nicely. The open pocket under the flap isn't very useful, because anything you put in there just subtracts space from the main pocket - I only used it for maps, museum guides and the like. Also, there is an inner zippered compartment, but again, anything stored there subtracts from the main compartment, so not very useful. Also, not accessible when the main compartment is loaded. The advantage of this bag over the typical "messenger bag" is that the pocket on the outside of the front flap is actually useful. It's got at least an inch of depth, so it can hold quite a bit. Camera, chap stick, headphones, nail clippers, Spanish/English dictionary, etc all went in here. The flap has a zipper under the velcro, so it's somewhat secure, but the zipper is not the full width of the flap, so hard to get large items in and out. I have two main gripes with the bag: 1) Color. It's inoffensive, but totally boring. Also, it's the exact same color as my coat. ("Hello, I am Beige Man, and I have come to visit your country.") I actually saw another tourist with the Olive version, and it is actually worse than the beige. (It's just a slightly greenish beige - it isn't any darker than mine.) Would have strongly preferred a darker color. 2) Quality. OK, all of these are acceptable for the price, but some things I noticed: - Main compartment zipper is very stiff. Improved somewhat with use, but is still not free like the other zippers. Unless I was somewhere where theft was a concern, I just started leaving it unzipped. If you have weight in the front pocket, it makes the main pocket difficult to sneak into anyway (advantage of this design over a typical messenger bag). - Velcro doesn't seem lit will last very long. It had a satisfying "rip" when I first got it, but over a month of use that has reduced to a light cling. Good enough to resist a breeze, but I'm not sure it would deter a thief any more.... - Flap stiffener getting creased. The flap over the front pocket has a stiffener in it (probably cardboard) that has gotten creased several times, even though I'm fairly gentle with the bag. The flap doesn't hold its shape like it did initially. (This cardboard is probably also why the bag says it is not machine washable - seems like a very short-sighted design decision....)

Fantastic Bag
This is a fantastic bag. I will update this entry once I've seen it over a year, but for smaller-than-messengers, this might be a holy grail. I'm coming from the angle of someone who is needing a tech/manpurse solution daily... and who abuses it daily... and who is on the run daily. In my experience, messenger bags are clunky, are prone to overloading, are management destroyers, sport poor balance, and completely get in the way. The best solution I've had to date (among many) is a heavyweight ammo bag that I've sewn zippered pockets, fasteners and modified with grommets. For those with some basic sewing skills, an aggressive place to start could be Rothco's ammo bag. What is different with this Everest solution? 1. Just slightly bigger (~ 10 x 10 x 4). 2. Preset zippered pockets in smart places. The main compartment is zippered... and there are both an interior zip pocket (ideal for cash) and an exterior flap pocket (Ideal for keys). 3. Better coverage flaps. 4. Tough canvas, & superior lying strap The Everest bag (in part due to the smart strap) holds on in a way that only the canvas ammo bags seem to. Like small ammo bags, the general distribution is smart, and won't dump loose contents out without provocation. The zippered small pockets don't run to the ends, so five sets of keys won't come flopping out everytime it falls to the ground. You'll want to sew in padding if you run with a tablet. I realize my expectations/needs won't apply to everyone, but this bag is great. All IMHO. Hopefully helpful.

Excellent Bag
Third try at finding a smallish bag for carrying everyday stuff. Did not want a large messenger bag and didn't want to spend a lot of money. This filled the bill nicely. I am able to put my Kindle Fire, a thickish spiral notebook, a Rothco utility bag stuffed with my chargers and ear buds, check book, pocket radio and a small flashlight. Packed as described everything is still easily accessible, not a jumble. There's still more room but it starts to feel overstuffed. Underneath the big flap is a zippered main compartment with a small zippered pocket inside that and an open shorter pouch with a phone sleeve inside that will fit an iphone 5s without a protective sleeve which I didn't care about 'cause I would never put it in there. I keep my wallet and phone in my pockets. Lifting the small flap on the outside reveals a zippered pouch. Putting anything in there, however, weighs down the big flap making it cumbersome to flip up to access the main compartment. My only complaint is having to lift the big flap, filled or not, to get to the inside. Not a deal breaker by any means. I'm glad I got this bag. Use it everyday.

Well made and very useful
I am very happy with this item. I use it to carry a rain jacket, disinfecting wipes and other items my family may need while out shopping etc. Very roomy with pockets to store cell phone, tissues, etc. without being bulky or cumbersome. I think it is the perfect messenger bag.

Love this bag
I love this simple, durable, versatile, stylish bag. I had one just like it for seven years and recently ordered another due to my puppy getting a hold of the strap. They are well-made bags and work well for carrying my everyday purse items.

Sturdy, minimal, not too small or large
Average quality, some stitching is sloppy but minor. Sturdy canvas and basic but sturdy 2" shoulder strap. Size-wise it's pretty much half a standard messenger bag and I agree with a previous review that this is the Holy Grail size for the average person to swing on and hit the streets on their bicycle. I intend to use it to hold beer cans and I am sure I can squeeze a whole six-pack plus a tire repair kit and a few other necessities. Better than a backpack well beer cruising because it keeps down the sweaty shoulders and back. The thing I like about this is it has no leather doodads like leather zipper pulls or leather decorations this is pretty much 100% canvas, brass zippers, little bit of Velcro and that's it. 100% animal free!

My Go To Bag.
I really like this bag. It holds a lot more then you think it would. It's my go-to every day bag for the office / purse. I like the army green colour, it has a lot of pockets and it can hold a water bottle or food container nicely. :)
