Broke immediately, twice
I bought this for my son (9 yo) who loves planets and had a very similar toy before. I was disappointed that the gear is a bit difficult to turn, and doesn't have different tracks or anything to make the planets go around at different rates from each other. But whatever. Then the paint is cheap and doesn't stay on the planets. The problem was that the stem which attaches the planets to the base broke less than a day after he got the toy. It's plastic and won't just glue together. So, there's no way to assemble it now or even play with it a little. Waste of money. Edit: I decided to exchange the solar system because I really wanted my son to have his birthday gift in working order. I talked to him about why it broke there, how you have to be careful with it, and I was pretty confident that he wouldn't break it again. So I did the exchange thing, (which worked very easily, thank you Amazon) and got the new toy. This time it lasted almost 2 days before it broke. So whatever. We're just hot-gluing it together, because he still wants to keep it and I'm not in the mood to try refunding an already exchanged item. Whatever the reason it keeps breaking in that exact spot, I'm calling it poor design. Yeah, my kid probably bent it wrong, but it is a toy meant for his age group, and none of his other toys break so easily, so...thumbs down.

ASSEMBLY difficult...due to no clear instructions
My self and my 5yo grandson put this together. First, we were told to paint the planets. Of course, we wanted to paint them appropriate colors, but nowhere was there a guide to do so. So, we had to figure out size and color from the foreshortened picture on the box, two planets were so close in size we still don't know if we got it right. Then, we were supposed to SAND the planets before painting with a teensy piece of sandpaper. Welp, sun, at maybe the diameter of a golf ball, was ok, but sanding was made difficult by ridges, but we could do it. By the time we got to the smallest planet, we are talking a sphere the size of a small pea...not easy to sand, but made a reasonable attempt. Then, paint wouldn't stick to even the sanded plastic...like using water based paint on plastic...really. Then, we had to again figure out which planet was which by the colors, and put each on its appropriate "arm." Using a magnifying glass, I could read the miniscule embossed names. It helped to write the names in larger letters on the "arms" with a sharpie. End result is as pictured, sort of. But any touching of the planets results in paint coming off...pretty ridiculous. Old adage is true: "You get what you pay for."

Great visual to explain the Solar System and Earth’s rotation
It’s a little delicate for 4 yr olds, but it’s been helpful to explain day vs night and the solar system to them. At first I didn’t look forward to painting the planets, but it was surprisingly enjoyable!

Fun & exciting gift for a 6 year old.
Gifted to 6 year old from great-grandmother. Perfect present that was assembled with the help of his kind uncle. A perfect learning tool that a 6 year old was excited to receive, and enjoyed putting together.
