Used to reduce allergic reaction to Methylisothiazolinine in paint
I am allergic to Methylisothiazolinine which is in most dish soaps, some hand soaps and many other items including house paint. Ive avoided most issues by avoiding products that use this preservative. Immediately after moving into our new house, I started to have an allergic reaction to the freshly painted rooms. (Hives all over my face, puffy eyes and lips and just plan miserable discomfort). Some people had relief by washing their walks with sodium metabisulfite, so along with two new air purifiers and airing out of the rooms I bought this with a hope it would help. Used 1 cup to 10 cups of hot water, used a mask because it did smell strong and mopped all the painted walls. Usually people who react to the preservative in paint on freshly painted walls can react for up to 3 months, but it's been 2 weeks since I mopped and everything has gotten better. I'm still using the air purifier to help, but my face is no longer red and itchy. Now I need to seek out paint without this preservative, which is difficult. . .

CONSERVE YOUR SWIMSUIT
I use this to take chlorine out of my swimsuits. NEVER USE VINEGAR. Less than 1/2 teaspoon of Sodium Metabisulfite per gallon of water will remove all the chlorine in your suit. The suit retains its color and shape and simply lasts 8-10 times longer. Chlorine remains in the suit even after you're out of the pool and have dried off. The chlorine continues to damage the elastic and lycra of suits. That is why suits that were put away after the summer swim season, even though they were washed are faded and baggy when you get them out the following year. In my case swimming 5-6 times a week soaks the suit in chlorine and in just a few months my expensive suit is shot. Either it has lost its shape or the fabric has deteriorated to the point it starts to be see-through in areas. After each swim I rinse the suit in cold water in a sink and spin the water out. Then at home I throw a pinch of Sodium Metabisulfite in a small bucket of water and let the suit sit for at least 30 seconds, swish it around a few times, spin the water out, and hang it up to dry inside. Even polyester suits (they have elastic bands that are destroyed by chlorine) last a lot longer too. Keep the solution fairly small....enough to easily cover the suit by 2-3 inches. The SMBS and water solution will only last a couple of days and needs to be made new. Obviously if you're going to get the chlorine out of the suits for the whole family, get a bigger bucket. At 1 teaspoon of SMBS per 2.2 gallons of water we're talking pennies to preserve a swimsuit, some of which cost $100 and up. The Sodium Metabisulfite works better than many of the commercially produced suit saver products and it's much more economical.

Preservative for dehydrating fruit
I use this for dehydrating fruit and veggies. Keeps my apple slices white as when they are cut. Much more effective than Ascorbic or citric acid and doesn't take much at all to do the job. This bag will last me for years and years.

Satisfied
I was expecting a powder but received more of a small grain salt. I'm not sure if this is normal since my experience with this chemical substance is limited. I watched two videos that show and describe this chemical as a powder. Either way, I can still use it so it is O.K.

It's a bunch of metabisulfite
The bag did arrive in a box with a bunch of other stuff and had a small hole in it which caused a small amount of the sodium metabisulfite to get on everything in the box. Really more of a packaging issue than anything. Other than that it's a quality product.
