Have patience
Remember this is an extra fine stone and you cant really feel any grit to it.. You are actually polishing an already sharp edge to a razors edge. Trust me I have carved wood and also processed a lot of venison and my knives are always like razor blades....this works really great but you have to have a sharp knife already to use this

BE AWARE: SIZE IS NOT 4", BUT -- 4 3/8 x 7/8" (110 mm x 22 mm)
Please note exact size (will not fit into 4 x 1" sharpeners).

Answers to Q&A are incorrect: Sheath IS included.
This DMT, although rated "fine-grit", is a good balance for dressing a knife that is in reasonable shape. I like the 4-inch (longer) size which gives you a place to hold while sharpening. I've used the 2-inch size for years; this is better. I carry this along with my pocket knife to whet my blade as I use it. Better to frequently give your knife a few strokes than to have to resurrect a really dull blade. The advertisement on Amazon does not display the leather sheath so I queried users. A couple replied there is no sheath provided. My DMT whetstone came blister-sealed with wheatstone and sheath in the sealed packge.

I love this thing
I had one for lots of years, can't find it, so this is my second. I have a number of other options, including a really nice Lansky diamond set with a clamp and guide rods. But this is the one I reach for. The size is great - the tool you have on you is much better than the tool you left behind. And it works so well at feeling where the existing edge is, to work on it.

Bad quality control, stone isn’t flat.

Pleased with this
I was pleased with this. Yes its small but it does a nice job on my pocket knives in conjunction with other stones and a strop. Two of my knives are S110v and S35vn. This seems to be good quality and feels like it has settled in after a few uses. I originally bought the large 8x3" DTM xx-fine. Not happy at all. It looked horrible. They even felt a need to put a note in the box saying its supposed to look horrible. Seriously, scratched and dented is NOT OK. It wasn't flat and too many terrible high particle 'speed bumps' that would bring my blade to a stop as I lightly ran the blade across it. This small one is much better for my needs. It looks and feels as expected.

Convenient for pocket carry.
I hate having a dull pocketknife, so I keep a couple sharpeners handy. I normally use the dia-fold for most sharpening, since they have a little more surface area and are dual-sided. I keep this in my pocket just to touch up the edge when I'm bored. The leather case is nice, since it can be used a strop. It would be perfect if it were dual sided.

A Must Have!
It does what it is supposed to do. Make your knife very sharp. I got a razor sharp edge on my Buck Folder in no time flat. Be careful, it's a diamond stone and needs a very light touch. Also Remember to NEVER use oil on it, only dry or water. I have the complete set from course to extra extra fine. That way I can use them as needed for a touch up to restoring an old dull blade. In fact, I tested them out first on an old kitchen knife and got it back to a near razor sharp edge in no time at all, well about 20 minutes. This is also a great way to break them in. They will feel a bit rough at first, but that's normal. Also wash them with water and dry them off after each use so they will work properly. I will say this. The leather sheath for the course stone was made from a thicker leather, in fact better and nicer, But, the stone does not fit inside it. The sheaths make them easy to carry in you pocket I will have to call the manufacturer and try to get them to send me a replacement sheath. I will post a follow up comment and let you know what happens.

Decent and can fit the KME with slight modifications
It works to get a sharp edge and after cutting about 1/8” off the length with a jigsaw it fit into my KME system. I do find it hard to believe that this is 8000 grit. Comparing it to my 1500 it doesn’t get t me any closer to a higher polish with less scratches.

Just like a leather strop
Extra fine whetstone is a great EDC for knives which already have a good edge. This stone is meant for final finishing and polishing of a knife blade in the outdoors or kitchen. Since I prefer to maintain a sharp edge on knives which I use regularly, this stone is a gem and works like a leather strop. Very satisfied with this purchase.

Excellent! Best travel stone for severe edge rebuilding - can make a knife out of a spoon.
Absolutely Excellent. I have almost all the DMT stones, of all grits and sizes, but when heading off to Asia for a year back packing I wanted an ultralight travel kit. I took this XX Coarse stone, and the fine (red) one, and a bit of leather. With these two stones, you can turn the most blunted rusted cleaver, or a teaspoon, into something you can shave with. This extra extra course will enable you to turn almost anything into a knife, with a little patience.

Great product
I really like this product, but beware: it needs a holder.
