Fatto in America.

Works well with slight modifications.
The concept is great but when the description says 'non'-'slip', there are indentations for rubber feet to make it non-slip but there are no rubber feet on the indentations. My husband had to make and glue rubber feet to make it non-slip. Also, I had to glue some flat rocks onto the bottom to give it some weight so that when you are working with cone yarns or crochet thread, it does not topple over when pulling off the thread or yarn while crocheting. It is just me that when you spend good money on something, you want it to be sturdy enough to last.

Love the Yarn Valet!
I just plop my yarn cake on the spool and I’m ready to go. Very convenient for me as I can now actually see how much yarn I have left on the cake as I’m crocheting. Yes,I’d buy again.

Great crochet device
It's worth the money I spent on both of them to get the job done. It does work with the jumbo and smaller rolls of red heart yarn.

Not nonslip
Concept works well but it is definitely not a nonslip item. Pulling too hard and it will end up on the floor. Had to find something to sit it on which was actually nonslip.

Almost perfect
Purchased this for my wife for Christmas. The absolute only issue is that the feet don't have enough grip.

Nice. Not perfect, but very nice.
I LOVE the idea. This item is really handy and helpful. I think with a little re-engineering, it could be perfect. But as it is, not quite. What I DO love about the yarn dispenser: * Pulls from the outside, so the yarn cakes don't collapse when you get towards the end. * I usually don't, but you could stick full skeins on here pretty easily and pull from the outside of those, too. * Helps keep tension even in stitches (usually-see below). * Easy to use. * Very lightweight and portable. * Little holes to add stitch markers are handy. * Affordable (although it cost more than I would expect to pay, given the materials it's made from and sheer simplicity of the item). * Lightly printed ruler on the base would be handy for checking gauge, although I haven't needed to use it (and would need very good light to see it). But still, a nice touch. What I DO NOT love about the yarn dispenser: * The turn isn't smooth out of the box. I have put baby oil, vaseline, etc under the spindle every so often to keep a consistently smooth turn. * It's non-skid base is basically some rubber stoppers on the bottom. Mine does sometimes skid because it is so lightweight when it snags (see below). I cut out a square of rubber shelf liner to set mine on to make it skid less. It helps. Some. * Those notches in bottom of the spindle - WHY for the love of all that is good did they add these? It does NOTHING for the functionality. All it does is give the yarn something to snag on and under during the turn process, tangling up, messing with my tension and slowing down my entire workflow. 99% of the frustrations I've had with this item is due those notches. I haven't done so yet, but am planning on covering them over with tape or something. This is my main complaint with the product. * When the yarn catches on the little notches in the spindle, if I don't notice it will sometimes flip the whole thing when then flies onto the floor. * I've tried multiple positions, etc. to avoid the yarn-snagging-on-the-spindle-notches issue. I've yet to master it completely although I can get it down enough that it's only a minor instead some of the time instead of major issue, every few minutes. * I don't have clue one what the "pattern holder" notch is all about. Like you're supposed to print out some paper, fold it up a bunch of times and stick in there or something? And that's somehow helpful? It kind of made me feel dumb, like it was supposed to be obvious but I had no idea. So it's not really a downside having something I don't use, but, what? Overall? The improvement in the process for when this works the way I want outweighs the frustration in practice of using it. I do like it and would probably buy more for multiple color projects...maybe. Once I get the notch issue fixed. But if I could find a similar functioning item without the notches, I'd be a lot more likely to buy that instead. Hope that helps!

Great spinning tool but does snag some yarns at the base of the spindle
I've been looking for something like this and was happy to purchase it. It works great at holding cakes of yarn as well as regular skeins. I especially appreciate it for some of the more “floppy” styles of skeins. I use it in crochet and find that the slight tension it puts on the yarn helps keep my gauge accurate. The one problem I have encountered (and why this review is a 4 instead of a 5) is that some yarns, especially boucle and soft twists have a tendency to snag in the openings at the base of the spindle. I'm not sure why those are part of the design as I can't think of any reason for them. To solve the problem, my first fix was that I used blue tape and carefully applied it so it would cover the slits completely (otherwise they would continue to snag.) After a few skeins, I found that the tape started to peel off. My next fix has worked well and has stayed on through at least 30 skeins with no problem. I used some of the press and cling wrap plastic (available at the grocery store) and pressed it on and trimmed it to fit. That has solved the problem for me. I will try to upload some pictures to show how it looks once in place. This tool has made a big difference in my use of skeins. I had always pulled from the center except with cake style yarn. I now pull from the outside for almost all of my projects.

I used some oil to help it spin better
This gets the job done. But isn’t super stable. It needs a little bit more weight to keep it upright. Overall, I wasn’t expecting a miracle so this works as expected.
