Expensive but solid.

On the expensive side but soild. Didn't come very sharp. For the price the should have been razor sharp. Used it stright out of the box with a 32 oz mallet and it took 3 hits to cut it. With a sharp punch one hit one cut. Hope this will hold an edge.

Sharpening required

Punch required significant sharpening prior to 1st use. And the nose carries more radius than expected. The cutting is biased to the open end. Overall a solid punch.

Lousy workmanship

Wow. The welds on this thing are simply horrid. Not even an attempt to clean them up. Hope it holds together. Osborn used to be renowned for quality. They are dropping straight off. Of course the Osborn, you have to sharpen them into working form, which kind of stinks. I’d expect better, but they don’t have the heart to do the job right.

Quality is not the issue Three Wrong shape

Quality is not the issue here. Osborne makes some really good tools. One reviewer said the punch was sized wrong. They are intentionally wider at the ends and spot on across the center. Another review complained about sharpness. Professional tools are often not sharpened to allow you to adjust the tool bevel to your liking. The majority of professionals sharpen and maintain their own tools. 7/8" & 1/2" the price was good however the listing says English Point, and the box it came in says English Point, but inside each was a round end punch tool. Returning two and only one replacement is available. On second thought I'll keep the one they cannot replace, it's a really nice tool for the price and it will get used. I'll try and update this after the replacement arrives. 3rd try It was a round end punch in an English point box. Well I guess you can get an osborne tool at a good price. Just like a box of chocolates, never know what's on the inside!

Looks well made but does not work well even with 9oz leather,

Tried first time on 9oz leather and it did not cut even half way after 10 taps of hammer. Had to use knife to cut it through. Probably edge needs to be sharpened.

I received my CS Osbourne oblong punch on time. When I first examined it, I noticed the punch was not sharp at all, but decided to try it anyway, since that was how it was made and a well known tool Made by a Top of the line tool company like C.S. Osborn. I used it on a 1 1/2 inch belt I was making. It barely cut into the leather. I had to literally beat on it with my rawhide leather mallet numerous times. I finally gave up and cut it with my razorblade knife. I am very disappointed in it and the C.S. Osborn name.
