Best material clips, trust me.
I purchased loads of these in June 2020 to fasten my Coolaroo material on my canopy over my entire pool. I live in north Texas where winds can be quite strong. Only a month ago did the material started to come off these clips. FYI: the bad reviews seem to be for the wood fasteners, not these. So buy these with confidence. I am ordering more.

Work reasonably well, not great on very hard wood.
These would probably do really well on newer boards, but the pins generally just bend trying to use on anything thats dried up a bit and tough to get them fully seated. They worked to at least temporarily hold up a shade cloth, but I felt like half the pins were just bending for each one I put in. I'm not really sure what else is used for sticking shade cloth on top of wooden beams, and this works well enough to deal with overall.

Very unsafe product, Fasteners come off easilly
Purchased these timber fasteners made by Coolaroo to fasten the shade fabric to the top of my shade arbor/Pergola/patio cover. They only stick into the wood about 1/8". Not very deep. After less than a year I noticed they are coming off. I was getting my yard ready for the upcoming summer, and noticed a few of them in my grass. I went up on the roof and looked down on top of the patio cover, and noticed a few of them just laying on top of the patio cover where they’ve come off probably from wind. Having these come off my patio cover, and going into my yard, is a very big concern for me, as my small dog could easily step on them. I contacted the manufacturer, and they were no help. They told me to buy different fasteners. I guess I will need to go up and remove these fasteners so they don’t come off by themselves and go into my yard and hurt our dog or ourselves. I will have to go a different route to fasten the shade fabric to the top of my patio cover. After looking at it, it’s amazing that these wood stick in the wood to begin with. After you press the fasteners through the fabric, you have about a 1/8" of the spike left that would be sticking into the wood. No wonder they don't hold. (Look at picture) These fasteners may work for other people, but they did not work for my situation

Worked well to attach shade cloth to guy wire
I tried butterfly clips to attach shade cloth and found them extremely difficult to close, so I bought this cord and needle with the idea that I would fold shade cloth over the guy wire and sew it. The needle included with the cord was way too big for my purpose; it was very hard to pull the cord through a double layer. I found a pack of "assorted yarn needles" on Amazon which were much smaller and worked beautifully. The one I used was about 2.5" long with a bent tip that helped guide it. The resulting seam feels secure and looks great -- much more even than other methods. It was time-consuming but not difficult to sew. A few tips: Clip the shade cloth to the guy wire every 12" or so with binder clips or similar before starting. It worked best for me to sew from underneath so I could see the woven lines on the shade cloth against the sky, and line them up for a straight seam. Aim the needle in between the woven lines; if you hit those, it's very hard to pull the needle through. I made stitches about 1/2" long. I tied the ends and then seared the tail to seal it and keep it from unraveling.

How do you reopen the clip?
I bought this product to install bird netting under my front porch eves to prevent the birds from roosting there. This is a great product for that use once you catch on to how to get them to work for this application. The problem was two fold. Don't snap them close until you are sure you have the net tension where you want it. Two, I have yet to figure out how to reopen one of the clips with out totally tearing it up. So it does the job well; its the installer that needs help... If you are making an installation such as mine, here is a tip. Put the clips up in a direction that will allow you to stretch and hook the netting temporally with out closing the clips. Once your netting is tensioned how you want it then close the clips. Now that I have figured out how to use them for my application I have ordered two more packages to finish the job. Good product high learning curve.

Ok but deteriorated in the sun.
I really liked this product, purchased about 8-10 rolls for an outdoor project but after a few years it weakens and has frayed and broken with sun exposure. Was great while it lasted.

The bom-digety for it's intended purpose
We have a VERY large Cooleroo sunshade. It's actually two adjacent 10 ft wide rolls that are 60 ft long, so 20 ft x 60 ft. We got the lacing kit to join the overlapping seams so the wind doesn't blow them "open". For this, the lacing cord and needle work perfectly. The needle is easy to thread and the Cooleroo fabric is porous enough to make stitching very easy. There are no instructions included. We found that, like many synthetics, we had to burn the cut ends of the lacing to prevent fraying. The product description reads: "Coolaroo 301408, Lacing Needle Attachment and Placement, (1 Set, 80' Cord) Shade Fabric Accessories, Black". So we expected 80 FEET of lacing cord. However the package label clearly shows the lacing cord length as 6 ft 10 IN.! However, we used at least 5 ft today and there is considerably more on the spool. We did not MEASURE it, but think it might actually be 80 ft. We identified this to Amazon for their action.

They work!
They call Chicago the windy city, they haven't been to Flagstaff in the Spring! 50-60 mph gusts happen at 6500', sitting in the open, at the base of the Peaks! These clips work! Bit of an application learning curve, but soon you're clicking 'em in, quickly. Use a curved tip needle nose plier and work all projections cleanly through the sunshade before snapping together. Don't be afraid to work the tip of plier through the weave of the material to squeeze, while holding together with other hand. These have held a 6'x30' sunshade, on a curved metal, trellis-like frame, through the worst. They're great! How long they will last, exposed to the elements 24/7/365, remains to be seen, but they're the bomb!

These clips are not as hard to use as reviews say - the trick is in working the fabric over the nubs
We put our Coolaroo shade canopy up yesterday and are VERY pleased with it. I was a little hesitant to buy this product because of all the negative reviews about the clips being almost impossible to close. I can imagine it might be difficult to use these if you have very weak hands and low grip strength, but I am almost 60 and my 55 year old wife helped and, although she had some difficulty at times, we both could close the clips fairly easily. The trick is to get the material COMPLETELY over the nubs - which takes some perseverance. If there is any material covering the nubs, the clips won't close. You have to push the strands of fabric over and around each nub and hold it back while you close the clip. If you do this, they close without much effort. I only gave 4 stars because it's not SUPER EASY too close them, but it's not that hard either. And our satisfaction with the overall product - look, function, etc. - is worth 5 stars. Durability will be another question over time, but the product looks and feels very very durable, and there are absolutely no issues at this point.

Expected better quality Butterfly clips
Joints are hard to bend and can injure your finger if proper precautions are not taken. Once the shade net is clipped, it does not comes out easily which is the plus point of the product.

Did the job!!
Bought sturdy poles form the hardware store, sprayed them black and inserted them into hems I had made. Gave it weight & support. Bought another roll to add down the side for shade in the afternoon. Now I have shade I didn't have before over my pergola!!

a Stitch in time
For hemming my Coolaro blind but also a strong cord for many other reasons/projects. Came with a strong plastic needle to weave thru the cloth - looks good.

As advertised
Built a half pergola topped with Coolaro shade cloth. Used clips to secure cloth to tensioned airplane wire. Worked perfectly as advertised. Easy to use. However, not designed to be re-opened. So if that is your plan, expect to destroy a few.
