Make sure you use a Cat 6 or 7 cable with shielding and ground/drain wire

The Garmin network uses Cat 6 or 7 network cables. The cable end connectors have a partial metal sleeve around them, which connects via the ground/drain wire to the end on the other end of the cable. There is a lot of Cat 5 cable out there that will NOT work on the garmin network. But for sure, these ends, with the right cable, and you can make your own cables in custom lengths and won't have to buy the garmin cables.

OEM Equipment

These are high quality OEM garmin connectors. They are designed for shielded cable. Hindsight I think I’d just order the Garmin cable but I was concerned with passing the cable through my deck. FYI you do not need a crossover cable to connect a Echomap 106SV directly to a Echomap plus 73CV. Standard T586B works fine.

It works

Overpriced for what it is. But, if you want a cable with the original type strain relief, it will work. Definitely overpriced. And Garmin should have built the factory ends to be removable like in this kit. No one wants to drill a massive hole to pass this through a deck or bulkhead. If you cut the end going to the plotter and in a weathertight area, and do not require strain relief then use a simple data connector. Cheap and can be used to make extension data cables for this and other projects.

Cheaper than buying garmin's network cable. Make it to the exact length you need.

Works good

These were perfect for making custom cables to network 2 Garmins together. Reme.ber Gatmin network uses crossover cables. I did npt use the RJ45 plugs that came with the kit. Ised the push thru style connectors. It 9s much easoer to get all 8 wores in the correct order.

Tricky to install, but works fine

You will need an ethernet cable crimping tool for this. It's fairly tricky to get all the wires aligned and into the correct slots. If you're only cutting one end off your cable - try to make it the A end - you can determine that from the instructions. It is WAY easier to do the A end, rather than the B end. On the A end, all the twisted pair wires are side by side. On the B end, you end up having to stretch 2 of the twisted pairs across to be between another 2 wires - more difficult. Just be patient, follow the instructions very carefully and buy a crimping tool.
