A Wonderful Product for my 9-pet Household, But With One Flaw
My wife and I have three dogs and six cats, so keeping up with everything can be a challenge. Having a self-filling water bowl seemed like a wonderful way to worry about one less thing (don't worry, we have several water bowls, this is just the main one), so we purchased this bowl. The bowl itself is plastic, and doesn't feel particularly strong or high-quality, but it doesn't really have to be. It comes with a very long 1/4" hose as well as a brass splitter so that you can connect it to your refrigerator's water supply line. This means you have to splice into your refrigerator's existing supply line, but that part wasn't difficult. I turned off the fridge water line, snipped it in half, and attached each end to the supplied brass splitter using the compression nuts, easy peasy. Then I connected the included 1/4" water tube from the splitter to the actual bowl. I did NOT use the small brass tube inserts that come with the splitter; the installation instructions included a little note about this, something about how the included hose is thick enough not to need the small brass tube inserts. I tightened all of the compression nuts using an adjustable wrench, turned the water back on, and voila! The bowl filled itself with fresh water. Great success, very nice. The bowl does make a whooshing sound when it fills, and this initially startled two of my three dogs when they would drink, but after about three days all of the dogs were completely acclimated to it. Most of the cats drink from it as well, but they don't decrease the water level enough for it to start refilling. What I've described above is the standard installation. It wasn't difficult. I consider myself somewhat handy, and I didn't have any real trouble. Hardest part was moving the refrigerator to get at the water line. However, there is one design consideration that I was not particularly satisfied with, so I modified my installation; what follows is a description of that, but please note that this is my own modification and does not reflect the standard normal installation of this bowl. After a few days of use, I noticed the bowl got a little dirty. My cats in particular like to dip their paws in the water, so they leave a little dirt behind. Because this bowl automatically refills once the water level falls below a certain threshold, there's no good way to detach it and clean it, because the water is always on. You'd have to move your refrigerator, turn off the water supply, and then detach the bowl. Pretty big hassle for something that needs to be done (in my household) every couple of days. My solution was to purchase and install a 1/4"-to-1/4" needle valve (1st and 2nd photos) **only on the tube going directly to the bowl.** I installed it about 1 foot from the bowl. The needle valve allows me to shut off water to the bowl without having to move the fridge, so I can easily disconnect it to wash it, . This part was a bit tricky, because the particular 1/4" needle valve I purchased was designed for thinner walled tubes. I tried installing it using just the compression nuts without the brass inserts (similar to the splitter), but had leaks when I turned the water back on. What I ended up having to do - and this is a bit wonky - was take my drill with an 11/64" bit and drill into both ends of the tube on either side of the splitter so that I could actually slide in the brass inserts. By doing this and using a bit of teflon tape, I had no leaks at the needle valve. Now, I can simply turn off water to the bowl at the needle valve and disconnect the bowl to clean it. Like I said, this is not the standard or recommended installation. If you choose to do this, it is at your own risk! Photo 3 is the finished installation with needle valve. Photo 4 is of our three dogs who drink from the bowl regularly. Overall, I'm very happy with this bowl. It's great knowing our pets have a constant source of fresh water. I deducted one star because of what I perceive to be a design flaw, and because it doesn't feel quite as strong or sturdy as it should for its price. But nonetheless it fulfills a need in my household, and I'm very happy about that. Recommended.

Only works well with LOW pressure
Bumped to 4 stars; update at the Bottom: The product is a neat idea, but the shut off mechanism leaves much to be desired. Let's start by talking about the plumbing. They offer different models with different connection lines. I opted for the unit that has 25' of rigid vinyl 1/4 tubing. The kit comes with a compression brass 1/4 Tee and the brass compression 3/8 x 1/4 adapter at the bowl. I already have 1/4 rigid vinyl going to my ice maker, so I got a 1/4 Tee PF (push-in style like shark bites) from my local hardware store (Lowe's). These are simply easier and more reliable than the brass ones. I also got a pair of 1/4 PF inline shut off valves. One for before the Tee that now feeds both the pet water and the ice maker, and the other for right at the waterer bowl. By doing so, allows me to easily shut off the supply line at the bowl, push in the collar and disconnect the water bowl for mess free cleaning in the sink. The brass fitting at the bowl itself is simple to install. you simply put the threaded collar on the line first, followed by the brass compression ring, and finally insert the brass flute in the end of the tube. push the tube into the female fitting on the waterer, push down the compression ring to the female fitting; and lastly, slide down the collar and tighten to a moderate level. No leaks. My parents had someone do similar plumbing with these style fittings and plastic tubing. They negated to use the brass flute (which supports the plastic tubing from collapsing against the brass compression ring). And their tube would "pop off" like other reviewers describe. NOTE: The compression rings and flute are NOT reusable! Now, here's why I gave it three stars. The shut off design is horrendous. There is no valve or any other such measure to actually "shut off" the water flow. The brass fitting inside the mechanism is simply a nozzle. The "Arm Float" has a rubber circle on the back of it, and it pivots on a pin. When the water level rises, the arm moves to a position to "plug" the nozzle. However, the strength of the arm is easily overcome by water pressure. They do a great job in mentioning this in the provided documentation. The proper range is from 40-65 psi. They provide additional "shims" that you can install to move the nozzle ever so slightly forward to allow the arm to provide a small degree of additional pressure against the nozzle. I'm current in search for a 1/4 pressure reducer to put in line for mine, as it has flooded the kitchen twice (thank goodness I installed those shut off valves!). This would be an excellent device if they just put forth a little bit more effort to have designed a proper water shut off mechanism instead of using "off the shelf" components designed to be as effective as sticking your finger in your garden hose. I'd gladly have paid $50-60 for one designed right. I hope to have this resolved once I receive this from Amazon in the next 48 hours: iSpring APR40 Pressure Regulator & Protection Valve for water filters, 1/4-Inch Quick Connect, MAX 40 PSI If so, I'll give it 4 stars, but not 5 with poor shut off design, lacking a shut-off/disconnect option at the bowl (solved with $15 extra parts), and using the brass style compression fittings instead of push style (which is more appropriate and user friendly for rigid vinyl tubing. Bumped to 4 stars. I removed the red & grey space washers they provided, and just used the grey one (thinnest). I also installed the 40psi pressure reducer I received from Amazon. Hasn't overflowed in 48 hours now. While they could still make improvements, I would certain say this product is worth it at the current price point. Just expect that some adjustments may be necessary for your particular application.

So far, so good! Added my own shut off too!
Not sure what original design thought was but based on what I’ve read here and how often we clean our current water fountain bowl, I also added a shut off and quick connect/disconnect for easier cleaning. I have no plumbing skills but watched a couple of you tube videos for ideas. I put 4 stars because i thought it was a bit odd on how it should connect to water line (even if I didn’t do the shut off). I ended up also buying a short compression water line so I could connect that to the T that it came with, 1 side to water (with the additional water line I purchased), 1 side to bowl with the poly tubing that was included, and last spot to the refrigerator. Dogs seem to like it and we did put it in an old Tupperware in case of leakage with a mat under since they do spill themselves.

Needs a shut off on the bowl itself
My husband had to install a shut off on the line right behind the bowl so that I would not have to move stuff under the sink to get to the one on the main water lines. Other than that, I LOVE this waterer. It is small, but it works great. I have 6 dogs (3 that I have babysitting for my sons). The 2 big dogs drink a lot and this little thing can keep up with them. No more having to get up and fill the water bowl when my little baby girl comes and stares at me like she is saying, “Mom, they drank all the water again.” Lol. It is fairly easy to clean. I turn the water supply off, then dump yep the water in it out into a bowl, the wipe the waterer down, turn the water back on and we are done. A quick disconnect where the line goes into the bowl would be great if the manufacturer is reading this. Overall, I am pleased.
