Great for small dogs
It’s the perfect size for my under twenty pound dogs. They eat a lot slower.

You have to buy these based on a fit with the way your dog's face is made. My first Amazon purchase was too big a bowl, and even so the channels that held food in were too restrictive (too narrow, too deep). Caveat: Experientially this bowl's depth and size restrictions fit my Yorkies. I would hazard a guess that, if it will serve Yorkies, that it will also work for Dachshunds, Chihuahuas, and small to medium terriers. Based on dogs I've owned IMHO this would not work for Lhasa Apso, Shih Tzu, and other wide or flat faced dogs like the pug, or boxer; and a beagle I had once would eat this dish right after the meal. The wrong-sized dog may toss or otherwise manipulate this dish depending on their hunger and disposition. One of my two Yorkies took one look at this dish and backed away as if to say "are you nuts?" She can see animals on TV, she loves the Meerkats, so she experiences the visual world differently than her male counterpart here who wonders what she's barking at since he sees nothing on a TV? In contrast she recognizes dogs from cats, horses, etc. She may have seen in this dish a dark open mouth with big teeth holding her food, it was like she was afraid? I fed her a third of her meal piece by piece from it, then I took her and the dish to a bedroom where atop the bed she had the time, without peer pressure or anything else to think about and she finished it, so I hope we're over the first time hurdle; a different paradigm for her experience. So, I didn't see how it slowed her, but before we went away I saw the other dish (same type) was effectively slowing her male counterpart. At one time they could have food left out for them, they wouldn't over-eat and had good weight control, but this last year they turned voracious and could intake a full meal in under a minute non-stop, they were done well before they were satiated which left them pacing around wanting more, and eating that fast was bad for them, especially her. I also had to find (and found) a way to slow her water intake; she was ingesting it so fast she was slinging some down her trachea (a major health risk). I used this same obstacle principal, only my obstacles in the water dish were tumbled agates and obsidian making it harder for her tongue to go deep and sling as much as she normally could. I had made it like drinking out of a stream-bed using a recycle pump and charcoal-filtered water dish also obtained from Amazon. Caution: do NOT buy smooth shiny rocks from a plant/flower nursery, those owe their shiny coat to polyethylene or varnish which will come off and be toxic. I hunted down my rocks (cryptocrystalline-metamorphic) from a rock-hound who had his own tumbler; I sterilized those before using. Anyway these bowls were among the least expensive in Amazon, but they were only available by ADD-ON purchase, which means you need to combine it with other Amazon purchases. Tip: If you also need to slow your dog, and don't want them frustrated, teased, flipping dishes, etc. read the reviews and see what breeds the various owners have said works or does not work. For the limited number of breeds I could comment on, I've given you that here. This bowl is about 2.25" deep and about 4.5" across at the bottom. Another tip is to slowly peel off the paper labels from these dishes while they are dry, once wet they no longer want to come off in one piece.

I like this bowl because it's nice and big. It's heavy duty and it doesn't move around when my dog eats out of it.

Decent bowl
I was actually needing a smaller bowl to stop my cat from scarfing her food and then vomiting. I have one bowl that is smaller but couldnt find another one like it so I opted for this bowl because it was cheap and I didn't have much money. (I have multiple cats). For the most part it does help slow her eating a bit but because it is still too large for her, she can scarf food if she truly wants to. This shouldnt be advertised as good for cats. Better for 20-30 pound dogs.

For Darwin Award Dogs
One of my dogs would obviously have been a recipient of the Darwin Award if he had been born to his schnauzer mother in nature. He is one of those dogs your vet warns you about "'some dogs just chew things but don't swallow, others just swallow--those are the ones you have to watch so they don't kill themselves". He is definitely in the "others" category. On top of this, he doesn't know how to eat his food, which is another disqualifier from life. Instead of eating at a reasonable pace that involves chewing and breathing, he just inhales and swallows. Thankfully this item allows me to indulge my otherwise doomed for extinction dog to live another day. I bought this item at the add on price of something like $4 or $5. A size small would have been best suited for my dog's size, but I went with the medium since that was what was offered at the add-on price. Thanks to this bowl he is still living and my heart attacks have been reduced to one or two per day and now only relate to adventures that take place outside. This bowl has slowed him down to a normal eating pace in which he is forced to breathe and chew. He no longer throws up. The company's description of "skid-resistant" must be the company's attempt at a little foray into fiction writing. This 14lb dog pushes it around the kitchen floor as he eats. I wish they would make a stainless steel version of this item so I could leave it in the cage with my dog. His doggy instincts betray him again as he chews the legs of this bowl and has ingested small bits of the "resistant" bottom. Considering this bowl is already geared toward the losers of survival of the fittest competition, I feel like this idea should have been a no brainier. A good item idea, but could use some improvement.

Definitely recommend
Bought to stop my dog eating his food so fast and definitely works. Dog takes ages to eat his dinner now, even the cat finishes before he does now. Only problem is sometimes meat can get stuck in the corners and the dog chases the bowl around the room to get it even though it has rubber stoppers at the bottom. Nevertheless glad we purchased and would definitely recommend.

Works well for my staffy
This bowl was a perfect size for my staffy. It has slowed his eating by loads. He eats 100g of dried food at each mealtime. If your dog eats more than that then you will have to purchase a bigger bowl.

Unfortunately was no good for our 11 week retriever
We have a 10/11 week puppy. First meal he flipped it over all the food fell out then chewed up the black part of the base all within a minute of putting it down.

Disappointing, made no difference whatsoever to our Patterdale cross Labrador's eating habits, still wolfed his kibble down in seconds. May as well have stuck to his original feeding bowl. Nice quality bowl however with useful grip bottom to prevent sliding.

They work! My two cockers used to almost sniff their food up in one go in a normal bowl, now they have to take their time in order to finish their kibble
