Beginner skates that need professional adjustment
As the description states these are leather lined boots. The outside I believe is vinyl and the inside has a leather lining. The boots do need to be broken in so they will not be comfortable to start with. I wear a size 9.5 and I ordered a size 9 according to the sizing chart. The boot does run a little big they fit me like a size 9.5 to a size 10 shoe. There is about 3/4 inch room at the toe. I cannot find anywhere in the description that states the softness or hardness of the wheels. They seem to be softer than my long boards 78a wheels. So I would say these are probably 78a as well and are intended for outside use. I have used them indoors only and they are very grippy on the floor. I believe that's why a lot of people say you need to change the wheels. But if you're going to use these outdoors these are perfect wheels for beginners. The wheels measurements are 62mm by 34mm which is a good indication they are meant for outdoor use as well. A few papers come with the roller skates. It states they have a 30 day limited warranty. Which is ridiculous because most in person stores have a 90 day return policy. And the company says if you have any issues in the 30 days to return them to the place of purchase. Which pretty much means the company has no warranty of their own. Along with the information that comes with the skates, it says that the roller skates need very little adjustment. I found this to not be true whatsoever. The toe stop was not adjusted at all, it was set to its highest position. So they had to be lowered quite a bit to make them functional. Side note (Toe stops are typically designed to be adjusted one time. Then replaced when they wear out, meaning there is no groove left on them). I also had to adjust the trucks, this is the part the wheels are attached to. One of the trucks was very loose which would have caused the plate to crack. I noticed at least one person in the reviews had a cracked plate. Most Adult roller skates are typically rated for 230 pounds anymore can cause the plate to crack. However if the truck is not adjusted properly on these skates it can cause the plate to crack also. Also if the jump plate is removed it can cause the plate to crack. The jump plate has nothing to do with jumping it is intended to keep pressure evenly distributed between the two trucks. Sense the plate and trucks are designed cheaper the jump plate needs to be installed. A paper actually comes with the skates stating that you are not to do any tricks with them including jumping. They are intended only for rolling. Which I find a little sad sense all skaters will need to jump at least once in awhile. The trucks were very difficult to adjust and had very little ability to be adjusted. The way the plate is designed in order to lower the cost of manufacturing it provides little adjusting ability. And makes it very difficult for them to actually be adjusted. A screw and a lock have to be adjusted at the same time in order to adjust them properly. If one or the other is not at the right position it can cause the plate to crack. The bushings on the trucks are strange. They're both the same shape and size. Usually one is coned shaped, but these ones are both large cylinders. I believe this is for the purpose of being able to adjust the inferior trucks. Otherwise they would not be able to be tightened properly. So if you do need to replace them make sure the bushings are replaced with the same kind. The roller skates come with a universal skate tool. Sadly this tool does not come with everything needed to adjust the skates. You can remove the nut on the wheels, adjust the toe stop, and one of the nuts on the trucks. But in order to adjust the trucks properly you will need an additional wrench. I do not recommend using a flathead screwdriver on the trucks, this will no doubt strip them. Overall my skates look brand new, but the trucks and the plates looked used. They were scratched up really bad. But the wheels were brand new never rolled on. So I think the plates and the trucks were just manufactured poorly. I did replace the bearings with ceramic ones. If you're a beginner I would suggest using the bearings that come with the skates for a month or so. I also added toe guards on the front of the skates in order to protect them from scuff marks. If you intend on using these at the rink or indoors you will need to invest in some new wheels. They will run approximately $50.00 to $100. A good softness rating would be 92a, those are a good all around indoor wheel. Would I recommend these roller skates. I would recommend these to a beginner that has the ability to adjust them themselves, or take them to a shop to be adjusted. Also I would recommend them for someone who wants to skate outdoors, so they won't have to spend anymore money. Otherwise use the extra money you would spend for new wheels to buy some better skates. These are good beginner roller skates in theory. It's just sad the company does not have good quality control, and does not stand behind their product with a good warranty. I actually watched a video where someone was given a free pair to make a promotional video or tutorial video for these skates. And the company actually gave them two different sizes, and one of the skate plates were installed wrong so the skate turned on its own. So even when they're trying to promote their roller skates their quality control is very subpar. I am considering returning these ones sense they are not 100% leather, and the trucks are ridiculously hard to adjust properly.

YES they will last longer than 3 months of 'real' rink skating!
The media could not be loaded. Price Note: There is another pair of Chicago skates just like these for ~ $20 less but they DON'T have a leather / suede liner. These are better made and become more comfortable with use as the leather shapes to your foot. Will these skates wear-out or need replacement in three months? NO WAY! Since Jan 2019 as of today July 2019 I have skated over 80 hours in these skates and can now skate backwards on 1 foot for almost the entire rink! I did replace the wheels, toe stops, and bearings. Remember the biggest factor in your skating ability is YOU not the skates. Don't take my word for it go to youtube and watch this amazing skater switch from his ~ $400 skates to rental skates. He can still do all the same tricks and it will blow your mind to see him do it in beat-up rentals! "I tried rental skates again after 3 YEARS!" - By Skate144, Published on Feb 16, 2017 So get out and SKATE they upgrade when you understand what type of skating you like and you know what you really need and even if you spend $200 - $600+ it is worth it IF you skate every week AND support your local rink IF you are lucky enough to have one. I spend $10 every week at my local rink Skateworld in San Diego and it is worth every penny. Now for the review of the Chicago skates... OUTDOOR skating: They come with soft but durable standard 78 hardness (durometer scale) polyurethane wheels. The wheels / bearings are slow which is good for learning and beginner skaters. What should you modify? 1. Wheel nuts - loosen them so there is a very slight bit of side to side play. Don't do this until you are confident and ready for more speed. Slow wheels are easier to learn on but you will get more tired as you don't glide as far. 2. Trucks - may be too loose or too tight this controls how much the skate will "steer" think of the front wheels on a car. In the beginning you want them firm as you improve you gradually loosen them so the skates turn / steer easier. 3. Toe stop - low quality use it until it breaks the way mine did and replace it. I got the Sure grip brand for around $15? 4. Bearings: Don't replace them until you skate for at least a few months then save them for outdoor skating. I applied a few drops of paint thinner (you could easily get or already have nail polish remover which is acetone) for this purpose then apply a few drops of WD-40 which is over 60% solvent which will thin the grease. Result? HUGE increase in speed and the wheel will spin freely for about 20 seconds! When you are ready to upgrade "Bones Roller Bones Bearings" BLACK for $20 for 16 bearings (enough for both pairs of skates) OR Bonz REDS or REDZ? $40 (2x the price but they are faster). 5. Recommend but not necessary leather"Toe protectors" Good indoors and outdoors and only costs $15. INDOOR Rink Skating (wood floor): 1. All the same steps as above BUT you MUST replace the wheels with a harder composite I choose "RollerBones Team Logo 98A Recreational Roller Skate Wheels (Set of 8), White, 57mm" which have a hardness of (Durometer 98). Any brand will do but you want 57mm & 90+ Durometer hardness. Also, don't use skateboard wheels. I tried 101A hardness and 52mm but on skateboard wheels the hub is thicker and the wheel nut will stick out and can cause you to crash. I came from rollerblades and NEVER changed my wheels (rotate and clean but never changed) I though the same would apply to roller skates but when you skate on wood the 78 hardness wheels are WAY OVER GRIPPED and it hurt my knees because of the resistance and if you are slightly off in you foot placement it will send you crashing to the floor. However, this adds around $40 to the price of the skates which is why I recommend for INDOOR skaters you at least consider "Riedell Skates - Angel Junior - Artistic Quad Roller Skate" $135 as these skates $65 + $40 (wheels) = $105. Now the Riedell have a plastic plate but **IF** you crack or wear it out you will know what type of skate/ brand/ wheels/ etc you really need and these skates can be retired to outdoor or you keep them in your trunk etc. Fit & First Skate: Jan 2019 I wear size 10 and found the skates were just right with room for thick skate socks. The leather liner felt good and even with 1.5 hrs of skating my feet felt fine - not bad for breaking in a new skate. The boot is very soft so you need to lace tight for support. Some high quality skates have a soft suede boot and some have a rock-hard ice skate style boot. Either works it depends on you need for ankle support and skate style. See the photos of my current setup. Note I only use these skates indoors at the rink and I have a cheap pair (last picture of Chicago Derby (Jam) skates that I use outdoors. Total skating is over 50 hours as of the date of this picture.

Turning Heads On Cheap Skates
I did an unboxing video but I was so unhappy with these skates that I am not posting the video, because I have fallen in love with them after all those harsh words. I bought these skates, used, for half price. After ordering, I learned a lot about roller skate wheels and skates. I thought I would be unhappy, especially with the wheels, but I am very happy. I thought I was buying cheap temporary skates but these work great. I haven’t even changed the wheels or bearings. I was having trouble skating on one foot when I had rentals. The first time to the rink with these I was skating on one foot, even around corners, even on my weak foot. I’ve learned to side surf and skate backwards on these. I thought that people would look down on these skates but I was skating with a guy who works at the rink who said they are better than the rentals they had. Then, I watched a lady realize I was skating on Chicago’s when she was trying to get a close look at my wheels. She had seen me doing little spins and little jumps and I’m sure she wanted to compare my skates to her nice Sure-Grip skates. I really want different wheels but the slide and grip on these is exactly what I had wanted in my mind. I can skate on these for a long time while I save money and keep researching the perfect wheels and bearings for me. Then, I can skate on that setup for a long time while I save money and decide what expensive skate setup to buy or build.
