Does not hold up - look elsewhere for a quiet kettle

I purchased this because I drink a lot of hot water and tea, and so I am constantly heating up water in a hot pot. I was annoyed at how loud my old electric kettle was (It's a low-end Krups). Previous reviewers noted how quiet the Chef's Choice unit was, so I figured I could solve two problems at once: get a hot pot that kept water hot for a long time (thus reducing the need to heat water frequently) and was quiet during the heating process. The first week was great. The kettle was super quiet. Then something happened, and now it's just as loud as my other electric kettles -- probably louder (like, loud enough than it will drown out whatever "good-with-tea-movie" I'm watching. For shame!). This one has a number of downsides that other electric kettles don't have. First, there's no water indicator on the outside. You have to open it to check the water status. And opening it isn't as easy as just flipping a lid up; you have to unscrew the lid by putting a bit of pressure on the weakest part of the pot: the plastic water release button (water doesn't come out unless you press this button). I have no doubt that this water release button will break within the year. It's wiggly and flimsy. This electric kettle also holds less water than some others (not a lot less -- .2 liters). I still use this electric kettle, but I've taken it to the office, and I continue to use my old electric kettle (the one I was hoping to replace) at home. At least my old one has a water indicator that's visible from the outside and the lid flips up for easy filling. I can say that this kettle DOES keep the water warm for quite some time. So, if that's your main goal, you'll probably be happy with this. I tossed the packaging after about a week or so; if I still had it, I would have returned this to Amazon for a refund. It's not worth the price in my mind. It's not a quality product, and you are better off getting something more expensive if you're really looking for a good, quiet, insulated kettle.

Safe for kids in the house

This product heats water to boiling. The outside stays cool to safely touch and keeps water inside if it tumbles down. The newer version has no 1.5 liter compared to the old 1.2 liter maximum water. This is so far the safest water kettle we have found. It is so far quiet during heating compared to the older version, which was pretty noisy. It is the best product we have seen so far.

A sturdy kettle...with design flaws

The most sturdy kettle I purchased...and returned...due to some major design flaws. I was in search of a non-plastic interior kettle and was unable to tell from the description, images and few reviews that this didn't fit the bill. I may have "overlooked" the few plastic interior parts and kept it due to its pros, but the cons were significant enough for me to return it...regretfully, and continue my search. Pros: a very sturdy, mostly stainless interior and exterior, lid comes completely off for easy filling, simple to use, quick to boil full kettle, exterior cool to the touch (worth 3 stars?). Cons: the screw-off lid is difficult to remove - I had to use pressure on the very weak plastic knob on the lid in order to screw it off (long-term durability questionable?), would be very difficult to clean due to a non-removable metal piece hanging down from the opening to indicate fill level, and when pouring only a trickle came out the spout...took what seemed like forever to fill a large mug or french press - but proved valuable for weight training :o)!

This is the only real "insulated" electric kettle, and it works great

So far this is the only real "insulated" electric kettle I could find on Amazon, or anywhere. The side of the kettle is double wall vacuum insulated, and it is near-perfect insulation. The top and bottom are only insulated with some thick plastic, so they do feel warm. When done heating, I keep the kettle on a thick cotton pad to reduce heat loss from the bottom. I drink tea all morning, and I need a pot of boiling hot water on my desk all morning. This kettle works great, and I only reboil the water every 1-2 hours. The reboiling only takes seconds because the water is still hot. This kettle has saved me a lot of time and electricity.

Keeps water hot.

I like that it keeps the water hot. However the handle seems to stay hot when it's not in use. The spout ia tiny so very slow to pour, so I have to remove the lid to alleviate the boredom of the slow pour. Also I have no idea how I can get into the kettle to clean it without chemicals.

Very well made and quiet in operation. The only issue is that the press to pour thumb button appears to be flimsy and feels as it may break, hasn't so far. Keeps the water boiling hot for several minutes.

I would have given 5 stars except it is noisy. Other then that I like the shape, handle, easy fill and it keeps the water nice and hot.

Well worth the investment

This electric kettle is amazing. It’s insulated so it doesn’t get hot on the outside which is great if you have curious young ones. I’ve gotten so used to my kettle that while at work I accidentally picked up a similar looking kettle with my bare hands and burnt my hand. It took me a second to remember that my home kettle which I’ve gotten so used to is insulated and that’s why I don’t burn myself when I pick it up. Also the fact that it’s insulated keeps the water warm for hours saving on energy. This kettle is well worth the investment, I would never go back to regular kettles.
