Knowledge is power
Now that I know exactly when my steel pans are at the correct temperature, there are no more guessing games, and everything I've cooked since owning this has come out great and aligned more with my expectations from reading the recipe with respect to cooking times.

Functional but flawed
I've used this thermometer when cooking over the fire pit, and in propane grills. I needed a thermometer that went up to higher temperature ranges oh, and this one seems to go higher but any of the others I found. Comparing the temperature readings Tuesday ambient temperature as indicated by my Meater thermometer, it seems to be accurate. Before I purchased it, I saw reviews complaining about how dirty and hard to read it gets, and that some of the colored paint on the dial turns White at higher Heat. Both are real issues, but I think getting dirty and being hard to clean it's simply to be expected for something that sits inside a grill. Some comments recommended using chemicals to clean it, but I just use a highly abrasive cleaning pad, like steel wool. Since glass is harder than steel on the Mohs scale, I'm not worried about scratching the glass, and it's worked well. Some of the colored paint on the dial did quickly fade at high temperature, but the black markings are still fine. If the glass is clean, the marks are visible. So, as an extra thermometer when my grill is crowded with different meats that I want to cook at different temps, it is handy. And for cooking over an open flame it's more accurate than holding my hand over the grate and counting how many seconds I can stand it.

tends to get smoked up and unablr to read without cleaning after each use.
Accurate and I bought it for beef briscuits which need to be cooked at the right temperature or they become tough.

Perfect for the price
I have a Blackstone griddle and I just set it on the griddle surface right next to my food and I'm able to monitor the temp with ease. Works well and I think it cleans up easy. Wipe it down after each use like you would your griddle surface and it's good to go.

Very accurate
Just what you need if you need to get specific temperature settings on your grill. As expected, they do get grease and grime on them. I recommend to clean them at the same time you clean the grill right after use. Use mild soap on glass to make sure you can read the numbers.

Grilling makes face unreadable after a few uses
It can not be immersed in water, so not the easiest to clean. I did finally get the glass face somewhat wiped off so you can read it again. Sure didn’t hold up for something that’s for a grill.

Great product, but buyer beware.
The Good: Works as advertised. Can easily map the thermal profile of the grill's surface. I've owned quality grills in the past, and all have provided reasonably consistent heat over the cooking surface. But, things aren't made like they once were, so a thermometer like this helps to ID the trouble spots. The Bad: Many reviewers complained that after several uses, they can't read the dial. A buildup of grease, baked on by high grill temps, leave a film on the face of the thermometer that you can't see through. The Ugly: You have to clean the face of the thermometer frequently, after only three or four uses, and depending on what you grill and how close the thermometer is to it. I found that an SOS-type pad or soapy steel wool works best. I would've given this product a 5-star rating except that the product description doesn't caution the buyer on how greasy this thing gets and needs cleaning often. Obviously, it's a given since it plays in the mud. But, many reviewers sounded the alarm, so I was prepared. Still, the merchant should've offer some general cleaning tips. For the plug-and-play type, this frequent cleaning might be too inconvenient. Nevertheless, as long as you can see through the dial, this product delivers.

Works but markings fade.
I bought this thermometer about 1 year ago. Like others, I found if it gets too hot (600 + F) that the paint badly fades. It's still usable, though. Just don't put it on your grill with it on high and walk away.
