Phenomenal light trout rod

I just returned yesterday from several days fishing for big bull trout in Central Oregon (Metolius River). These fish easily went up to ten pounds with most in the 6-8 pound range. And fought like a steelhead. In theory, this rod should be too light for fish that big but it handled every landing perfectly although the rod really bent. What was really impressive is the ability to precisely cast a Rapala lure 60 to 80 yards to a riffle and then let it drift downstream. My fishing partners were stunned by the performance of this rod. Now they all want one. This rod is so impressive (I bought it for pond fishing for trout, bluegills, and the occasional bass) that I may buy one of their fly rods. I've stuck pretty close to Sage but this rod is really well made for a fair price.

The BEST rods in the world, poor shipping quality control though.

St. Croix Avid series is a personal ONLY go to for my daily trout angling, occasionally i do land qn Atlantic salmon on my 6'6" light/fast, the sensitivity is by far the cleanest, the strike is light a lightning bolt, i have a 280$ gary loomis that cant even come close, by far the best rods and made in america and they stand by them with a 15 year warranty, my last 6'6" avid lasted 19 years and is in process of replacement directly through St. Croix, one thing i noted and was worried of before recieving my rod is they dont place the new rods in a thick unbendable carboard tube as st croix does its in a very flimsy cardboard box with no packing, ive seen others complain of broken rods upon arrival which seems very logical, these should be shipped in a much better fashion but fortunatly my rod arrived new.

St Croix are the best.

I love St Croix rods. I've been using their Premier line for years so I thought I would try an Avid. The one I bought was the same "specs" as one of my Premier rods (6'6", medium power, fast action). The Avid is actually quite a bit stiffer than the Premier, but it casts beautifully and has a fantastic feel. It's balanced well too with the right reel. I love it. Can't wait to use it again next fishing season.

Great rod

Great casting rod. Great action. Casts a mile when combined with proper reel. I put on a sedona 1000 fl with 8lb braid. Was going to do stradic ci4 but I put a 2500 ci4 on rod and it felt no different. So I saved the money and went Sedona.

Nice Rod

Great rod - St Croix makes good equipment. This rod: 6’6” Light Power, Fast action is extremely light and matched with a Shimano Stradic Ci4 1000, casts well and is very sensitive. It does seem a little whippy but that may just be me. Overall I would buy again if something happened to this one. Reason for 3 stars is I paid a little more than I would have on other websites so that I would get it in 2 days (Prime) and it took 3 days to get here so I missed taking it on a planned trip. Not Amazons fault but their 3-party vendor.

St.Croix rods rock! Highly recommend.

These are some of the best rods on the market and I would highly recommend them. Very very sensitive and perfect for smallie fishing. Have use these for several years now and have bought more so that we have multiple rods rigged up and ready to go at all times. Have caught hundreds and hundreds of smallies on these St. Croix rod's. Terrific quality. Highly recommended.
