Great for outdoors, not good for indoor ranges. (updated)
They work very well within guidelines. I would not use them in an indoor range since the constant loud noise and infrequent conversation really defeats the purpose. Hunting, skeet (sporting clay, etc) is a much better proper use. If I were to change one thing, it would be to decrease the tension of the head band. It is a bit strong, probably to make sure a good seal is made around the ear pods. After a few hours it becomes a bit uncomfortable, especially if it is pressing down on eye protection or sunglasses. Update spring 2022. Well, it has been through 5 duck and upland game seasons as well as countless sporting clay practice trips. How much did I use it? I wore the camo pattern off the right ear pod. Here are the design flaws I found: The microphones are on stalks sticking out from the front. One fell off, which is why I am replacing the earphone. The on/off volume is a rotating knob. Wrong for the same reason. This knob is on the right side, and if you are right handed, that is where the gun stock rests. There is a REALLY BRIGHT RED LIGHT that turns on when the unit is running. Defeats any camouflages. The 3.5mm aux plug sits right on top and is open to rain getting in to the internal electronics. Should you use it, the 3.5mm jack is sticking straight up along with the wire it is connected to. The device it is connected to will be in your pocket so the jack should be on the underside of the headset. Until the mic fell off, it functioned flawlessly. However, I will not be buying this model again.

"Do you hear what I'm Saying?" Actually, Yes!
I was in the market for electronic ear pro for sometime after using my friends Howard Leight's. I did not however want to spend that much money on headphones and then I came across these. These work very good and take a standard battery size which is nice. I like the way the electronics work, enhancing the sound prior to firing and deadening the blast. These make a day on the range with friends a good time as I can carry on a conversation while still having my ears protected. When I first got them I did the clap test and was amazed! At first I wasn't even sure my hands had clapped, that's how good these are! I had to remove one side to make sure my hands were making noise. I have used these on several occasions and would definitely buy them again if these were to break. I would recommend to all gun owners!

This set of ear-pro is outstanding. I am generally a bit gun shy about products that claim to be multifunctional as it usually means the product does a bunch of things poorly, but that was not the case with these cans. The mic pick-up is quite good and the sound dampening is pretty seamless and doesn't interrupt a conversation. There tends to be feedback when getting too close to someone wearing another set of these or others on a close freq, but that is a minor annoyance and is less noticeable when the volume is lower. The E-max does fold up to a pretty compact size and they don't feel heavy when wearing them. We have found that after wearing them a couple hours, it is almost easy to forget that you have them on. We have two pairs, no issues with either; now we just hope they last a good long time.

Meets my minimum expectations
My son could hear me whisper and didn't feel compelled to yell back while we were in the deer blind with these yet his ears were still protected from the sound. This meets my minimum expectations. I was hoping these would amplify game movement, but that wasn't really the case. It made the real crisp noises louder, but it didn't seem to pick up more noise than I could already hear and it didn't seem to amplify the lower sounds (like deer movement). There is a constant white noise that I don't care for. There is also a power indicator light. They had a strong chemical smell that I couldn't get out with scent free wipes and scent elimination spray. I put some tape over the light and I'll probably risk the scent for blind hunting with my boy. The foam also came off the microphone and must have landed somewhere in the woods. I think I can find a piece off something at home to put in its place.

Great headphones - with a caveat
Comfortable. Excellent noise reduction. Excellent stereo effect with the microphones. They would be a five star - except one major flaw. The instructions say that they may have interference and static if near a device with radio signals like cell phones. No kidding. If my cell is with me all I get is major static. So sitting in a stand with your cell phone the headset becomes useless. Come on Caldwell. Shield the electronics. A small layer of aluminum foil around the wires would fix the issue.

Best Price
Pros: They work, and work well. Camo. Compact design is nice too, for stowing with hunting or shooting gear. Cons: They smell like heavy industry and toxic chemicals. Pretty sure they might freak out deer just with the scent, alone. Side Note: I ordered these from Amazon, instead of another competitor MidwayUSA. Midway actually owns Bettenfeld Technologies, the company that manufactures these. However, they refused to price match, and were about $5 more expensive. I'll be checking Amazon more frequently now, for the best price.

great so far
I only used these once so far but they work great! I had then on at the range for about 4 hours straight and they did exactly what they were supposed to. I could hear people talking but when a shot would be fired it cut the noise out. It worked great while I was firing my m1a scout( which really barks!). I did hear a little crackling sounds but no big deal. If you want perfect clarity you're going to have to spend allot more money! For the price you can't beat it! They look cool, are comfortable and function just fine!

Work great. Battery life is as expected. Microphones froze and stopped working during one early morning outing. Worked fine when they thawed out. Still think they are great just have to plan around the cold.
