Comfortable, but tough to keep adjusted correctly
I bought these based on the name and the reviews. This is a decent set, and once adjusted properly, have a nice fit. The problem I have is that the metal earcup holders don't like to stay adjusted and want to snap back into the headstrap, making it difficult to put them on. I'm keeping them, though. The other thing I noticed is that there is what I can describe as white noise when the noise suppression is on. I did not ding it for this because this is my first pair of noise suppression muffs and that might be normal. It's not that distracting. If you want a pair of shooting glasses that fit nicely under these muffs, I recommend these, also by Caldwell: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HS7HUQU?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Great
Tried them out for the first time during my recertification and had no problems hearing the instructor and blocking out all of the shooting.

Not bad at all for the price!
Electronic hearing protect lets you hear casual conversation while saving your ears in loud environments, such as a gun range. These are in the decidedly middle-of-the-road to cheapo-de-lux range. They do a fine job of filtering out noisy to fairly loud sounds. I can tell you right now I wouldn't wear these at a busy indoor range, at least not without additional protection, such as ear plugs, nor would I let my students do so. I bought these because: 1) I was ever so curious, as I've never seen them this cheap, 2) I'm a firearms coach, and I like my students to hear what I'm saying. These are cheap enough to be entrusted to semi-strangers, 3) Curiosity...yes, I was curious enough to list this twice! I received these yesterday. I created a very noisy environment, then compared these to my older mid-range Peltors, which cost roughly 7 times more. The perceived differences in hearing protection and voice amplification are so minimal I'm not quite certain if they're real or the result of my bias...I never really liked the Peltors. Anyway, unless a blind or truly scientific test is done, we'll have to go off of my word. The voice amplification was ever so slightly better with the Caldwells. Other than that, functionally they were identical. I did not hear a difference between the two when it came to blocking noises out, which is not surprising as they're pretty much the same size. The electronics are much newer in the Caldwells. As far as volume, it isn't impressive, but it isn't bad. If you're wearing ear plugs, you should be able to hear voices at a conversation level, but they'll be a bit faint. In a very noisy environment, such as a packed indoor range, it may not be enough. I really liked the simple, easy, not-high-tech control. One knob turns it on/off and controls the volume. Do you hear that Peltor, Toyota, and other companies that like to make these controls as complicated as possible?!? Yes, the same type of knob that has been controlling electronic devices since radios had tubes and the woolly mammoth invented the wheel. The same type of knob that nobody ever had to read a manual to figure out, that worked every time, and allowed quick and easy control of the device in question. In case you missed it, I like simple controls for simple devices. Peltor is operated by buttons, one for power and two for volume. It beeps loudly in your ears whenever a button is pressed. It is very easy to inadvertently leave them on. While it isn't too difficult to figure out which button does what without looking, it still takes forever compared to the Caldwells, and needlessly so. They add cost. To be best of my knowledge, none of the other manufacturers feel the need to use this system. As a side note, the insulation covering the cords on the Peltors has rotted away, despite their very light use and protected storage. Obviously I haven't owned these long enough to compare, however I have owned others longer, and no such issues have cropped up. As a side note to the side note, Peltor is a medium to high end brand, and as such, one tends to expect higher quality. To be fair, the Peltors still function properly, despite the dangling wires and silly button controls. Obviously these aren't high end, however they're easily as good as the Peltors, and you can buy several of these for the same price. Will they last as long as the Peltors? I'll let you know in 10 years or so. Frankly, even if they don't last as long, I feel you're still better off with these, assuming of course you're looking at fairly mild hearing protection. Oh, it may cost you a few bucks more eventually, like, in 5 years or more, but just the ease of use is a big enough bonus to make it worthwhile. You also won't worry so much about theft or loss. I'm going to shoot this weekend, and I'll give them a serious test then. If I feel any changes are in order, I'll edit this review.

Good for small heads and CHILDREN!!
These are good muffs. Not amazing, good. So starting with the electronics. The sound quality is ok. People are intelligible. There is a very low but audible hiss of the electronics as soon as you turn on the muffs, the hiss stays level no matter the volume is set at. I have other electronic muffs from Howard Leight and Peltor. They both have a similar hiss, the pitch is different, but you get what you pay for. 25 Bucks for these and you get a louder hiss and simple electronics. 60 bucks and you get smoother electronics and less hiss. 200 bucks and you get a low hiss, and electronics that work to allow you to hear spoken directions even when using a table saw. You don't give a first grader 200 dollar muffs! (I'll get back to that) Using the included cord I could listen to music easily, but as others have said the volume control is the volume control for both the outside sound and the incoming music. The knob for turning on the muffs is large, but if you have a really tall head the support might get in the way of adjusting the volume. When you turn on the muffs there is a red light that illuminates on the same side as the knob, in addition to having a very distinctive "Click" of turning on and off. The covering for the headband is plastic feels thin, no real padding, there might be some foam underneath but I doubt it. I plan on making a fabric and foam wrap to help with that. The adjustment sliders do not have any friction, so they slide easily to adjust to the persons head, and then collapse for storage. Some might find this irritating though as you would need to readjust the size every time you put them on, but that is the downside to a collapsing headset. The surrounds are smooth and have a soft feel. They seal very well even with glasses . They provide just over a 1/2 inch of sealing width. Now some have complained on here about their ears hitting the speakers or speaker mounts inside. I don't have this problem. The depth to the speaker (including the foam over it) is 1/2 inch with the surround fully compressed. Now if you have big ears this isn't going to work for you. See the following measurements. The inside dimensions of the ear opening are: 1 11/16 inches front to back 2 11/16 inches top to bottom The surround height is 3/4 inch (compressing the ruler into the foam on top of the speaker) Other sizing considerations. (Measurement is vertical distance from top of head to imaginary line between ear canals.) Smallest head size possible 4 inches Tallest head size possible 6 inches So why did I choose these Muffs? For my young son. Someone posted a picture of their daughter in a review. She looked elementary age and the muffs seemed to fit her. They fit my son as well. He knows they are bulkier than his old Peltor Juniors, but he can hear things with these ones if he wants to. I tried myHoward Leight by Honeywell Impact Sport Sound Amplification Electronic Shooting Earmuff, Camo (R-01530) on him and they fit him, if I put a folded up ski hat under the top band!! (Smallest head possible on the Impact Sports STARTS at 5.5 inches as comparison) Some reviewers noted that there was very little insulation inside the cups. One of the first things I did was take out the foam and add additional open cell foam to the inside, after which I put the original foam back in. Number one tip if you use any electronic muffs. Air them out! After you use them all day doing yardwork sweating up in them flip the cups outward to let them air out. The second tip is take the batteries out. I have rechargeables in mine, but after doing the work I take the batteries out. They can't corrode and ruin the electronics that way. About the reviewer. I have spent over 20 years wearing hearing protection for a living and also selling it. That is why I firmly believe in protecting hearing, I hope you enjoyed my review. (Photo's soon!)

Great budget electronic earpro
They're sturdy and well built, although they feel a little cheaper than Walkers or Howard Leights, but they're half the price! There is no auto-off function, but they have a power LED so it's apparent if you've left them on. I tested these while also wearing in-ear protection, and the voice amplification was very natural, although there is some static at higher volumes (why you'd want them set that high, I don't know). These won't be my primary electronic ears, but they're great for when I bring friends to the range.

Decent. They work ok
They squeal if the volume is turned too high. But for the price you really can hardly beat them. Had mine 2 years or so now and like them. For a recreational shooter they do the trick. Pros.. They so far always worked. Sound canceling is actually quite good. Cons .. they are staticky and screech on high volume. Work great on 3/4 volume tho. Evaluation... I recommend if you only use them here n there they are good enough. If you compete in shooting sports I’m sure you are even considering these.

I'm happy with and do recommend them.
I'm pretty happy with this ear muff. I purchased it three years ago and have had the opportunity to use it several times in that period. I find that after wearing them for a couple of hours they do become physically annoying as the fit just isn't right for my ears/head combo but my wife has pretty much adopted them as they fit her far better. So this isn't a matter of how well they work it's simply a matter of not everyone having the same sized head. The ear pads are soft enough and made so that they keep a goodly portion of the gun shots out of your ears. The microphones cut out at the right sound level so that your protected from repeated bursts of gun fire. They do what they were designed to do. The wind screen on each mic is removable for cleaning but they aren't very robust so be careful taking them off or putting them back on as the foam will tear easily. We've found the AAA batteries last a fairly long time, of course this depends on how high you set the internal volume but overall battery life is good. We actually got through the first two years on one set. Getting at the batteries is easy enough, the compartment is on the left hand muff behind a slide down panel. On the right hand side, you have the on/off power switch/volume control as well as an audio in jack for those who like to listen to tunes while shooting. There's a lot of static in our set which becomes very distracting so listening to an audio player never really happened. It could be our set; I don't know anyone personally who uses the same muffs that I can ask. It's a nice idea but not the main reason you buy one of these. On the same muff there is also an indicator light that allows you to tell if the power is on. We found that this doesn't work all that well. You can see from the images below that there is a lot you can do to adjust these so they fit comfortably. The band does a good job of keeping them tight to keep noise out of your ears. When it first arrived I was sceptical about the build quality as they are light and I wasn't so sure about the wire frames but this thing hasn't exactly been coddled over the years and it still look much like when it first arrived.

Great quality and would recommend to any shooter.
Great muffs. They are nicely sized and lightweight. Work very well on the firing line and I have no problem having my kids wear these while we are practicing. The stereo features and sound cut out are great. I would never recommend anyone use passive muffs only on a range ever again especially when RO commands are very important to hear.

Great ear protection
So far I am really impressed with these ear muffs. I used them while shooting and they did exactly as stated. As soon as I fired the microphone cut out. I found the microphone to be great as I find it difficult at time to hear people speaking and they really helped with my hearing. It was great to have them on and be able to carry on a normal conversation. I have only used them once so I can not speak to durability, but performance is great.
