Worked great for bonding the water in pool to area surrounding pool, and pool pump

Simple install, even after pool was filled with water. Used the recommended drill bit size for a perfect fit - no drips! Just read and follow the directions, and mark the srew location where hole will be drilled in the middle of the plastic reinforcing ribs to the left and right on the lower skimmer section (so that the washers, nuts, and wire clamp won't interfere with the plastic ribs); and most importantly in the middle of the lower skimmer section - top to bottom, as measured from the inside of the lower section. If it is too low, then your plate will drag on the bottom of the skimmer when you try to install, and you will never get the screw thru the hole or get a proper water tight seal. If it is too high, then your plate won't allow the skimmer basket to properly sit in place, which may also effect your seal if you use the skimmer to vacuum. When properly positioned, there should be about a 1/2" inch between the bonding plate and the bottom of the skimmer and a 1/2" between the bonding plate and where the top of the skimmer basket sits (for the standard Hayward skimmer I have). With water already in the pool and skimmer, I used a tape measurer inside the skimmer (with the basket removed) to eyeball the depth of the basket shelf from the very top of the skimmer (about 6 1/4" for me). By adding 1/2" to this dimension and then adding half the height of the bonding plate (corresponding to the screw location), this calculated screw position can be transferred to the outside of the skimmer from the very top of the skimmer (8 1/4" for me). Recognize that if you drill the hole with water in the skimmer, you will inevitably get the corrosive clorine water rushing out the drill bit flutes (which are likely to get your drill (and foot) wet. Be sure to dry off your drill, and spray with WD40 or some other lubricant, or you won't like the resulting corrosion in your drill chuck. The same goes for your tape measurer.

This absolutely does the job of bonding the pool water easily.

First up, my only complaint is that this costs more than it should. I assume its due to the UL rating. I will say that should be worth something as this is a safety device. That said, its just a plate, a bolt, and some hardware. I feel like even with the UL rating it should be less expensive. Ill also say I did shop around and this is by far the cheapest place to get this item. Since it is a safety device, I would recommend just paying the money and getting this as opposed to trying to make it... even though you could make it for about $10 in materials. Its not worth the risk. This device also is well made and fits absolutely perfect in a standard skimmer. You'd have to goof around to make something fit and it would probably not fit this well. It installs in like 5 minutes. The tiny 3/16" hole that must be drilled in the basket does NOT require that you drain the pool. It leaks of course until you set the device and tighten against the gasket but after that it seals quickly and probably permanently. If not, a 3/16 diameter gasket is available at any hardware store. I kicked around a bunch before just buying it. Just do it. The piece of mind that the pool is that much safer, with UL testing to back it up, is worth the extra money.

Things to know.

The instructions said to drill a hole which I did. What the instructions did not warn was to look for ribs inside the skimmer and make sure to drill in a location that the stud will not land close to the rib as the sealing washer will not seal if you do. I was finally able to seal but I suspect most people would end up buying another skimmer if put in my situation.

Good Product

Good well built product, but a bit on the pricey side. That being said, it is a "one and done" kind of product so best to invest in quality for long term value. Have bought these before and was happy with the product and installation requirements.

Easy to install.

Easy to install in the skimmer. They tell you what size drill bit to use and it worked perfectly. I used this to bond my pool.
