Vampires, Ninjas, Robots! Oh My! - Board or Bust Review
As a kid, did you ever imagine running you own theme park? You thought you could ride all the rides, eat all the fried food you wanted, stay up every night to watch the firework show. Well reality just gave you a slap in the face. Running a theme park is an immense amount of work. You have to build the rides, hire staff, open up amenities, improve and upgrade your equipment to outshine the competing parks, and be on the defense of any “unfair” corporate schemes or espionage from the other players. Who will have the grandest theme park at the end of 8 rounds? Fingers crossed and good luck! Number of Players: 2-5 Play Time: 50 - 125 minutes -Setup- To setup the game, each player choices one theme that they want to have incorporated in the game. Then you take all the chosen theme cards, separate them by type (Event, Park, Showcase, etc.) and shuffle them all together. Each player is given a main gate card, a loan card, 20 coins, and 5 cards off the top of the park deck. Once everyone has their hand of cards you are ready to begin Round 1. -Gameplay- Unfair is played over 8 rounds. In each round, starting with the first player you will play through 4 phases. In phase 1, the event phase, each player will draw an event card and then have the chance to play as many event cards from their hand that they want to. Phase 2, the park phase, is where you will actually be taking your main actions. You have a few options on your turn: you can buy a card from you hand or market on main board to add it to your park, or you can draw some more cards from the park, event, or blueprint deck, or you can demolish an attraction in your park, or you can find loose change (which is the weakest action in my opinion but can get you a few more dollars, instead of you taking a loan). After the action packed (get it?) park phase, you get to rake in all the money from ticket sales in the Guests phase. Finally you have the cleanup phase, which just involves round maintenance. I know what you are thinking. That’s it? The fun to be had here is how everything is thematically tied. If you play with the vampire theme, there is a staff member to be hired that can mesmerize other players staff to give you their abilities. If you play the pirate theme, a lot of the cards will be focused on getting all that booty. Your park can only hold up to 5 attractions so you must also be mindful of getting the most out of your limited space. At the end of the round, you must also discard down to 5 cards. You can carry event cards that you draw from round to round but they count against your hand limit. You will always be trying to weigh if any card is worth clogging a spot in your hand. Unfair can be mean-spirited because your actions and event cards can interfere with other players parks, but it is just a game and the game is literally called unfair so it shouldn’t come as a surprise. Depending on the themes you choose (Base game includes: Vampire, Ninja, Pirate, Gangster, Robot, and Jungle), the cards also allow for plenty of way to redirect or defend against any attack or event that could do damage to your park. If you ever get tired of the 6 base sets there is an expansion that has 4 more themes. Each game also comes with some “Game Changer” cards that you can add at the beginning of play to add even more variability. -Components- In the box there are: 86 coins (in denominations of 1, 5, 25, 125), 6 theme packs of 57 cards each, a roller coaster cart shaped round tracker, a game board, and a score pad with pencil. The components in this game a excellent in my opinion. The board is nice quality, the tokens are thick, and the cards are nice quality. A round of applause is needed for artist Mr. Cuddington (David Forest and Lina Cossette) as everything from the cover art to the board to the cards are covered in some of the most vibrant work I have ever seen in a board game. The cards are really nice with unique illustrations that are just dripping with theme. -Final Thoughts- I love unfair, it’s that plain and simple. I feel like a kid every time we open the box. It just transports me to a simpler time and theme without losing any of the strategy that a medium game should have. There can be quite a lot of “take that” but one of the included game changers is a world peace card that eliminates all interactive cards. Mixing up different themes makes you adjust your strategy every game so I am always surprised how my park ends up. It works good at all player counts but may be a little long at 5. If I had to find any con, it would be that when the final round starts I feel like I have already accomplished all that I wanted to. We will always play with the game changer that cuts the game down to 6 rounds. Its faster to play and creates tension because you know you can’t get everything done in time. I would give Unfair 5 roller coaster loops out of 5 Board or Bust Scale: 1- I would never play this again. I would not give this away as a gift. 2- I would play this game if someone else had a copy but I would not buy it for myself. 3- I would ask to play this game on occasion. Would be happy to receive as a gift or in a trade. 4- I would purchase this game for myself. I can see this getting to the table a few times a year. Always enjoy myself when playing. 5- This is exactly what I want out of a board game. Would never turn down a game and would ask to play regularly. Hard to imagine ever getting rid of this game.

Great game, wonderful artwork!
Lots of cards to learn, but very impressed with the artwork! It’s beautiful and they designed the game to be very accessible. For instance they include several “summary rule” cards for each player to hold on it to reference during the game. They also include a game board that can be flipped if you want to sit across from each other or side by side. I have only played this as a 2 player game and it’s awesome! Fun deck building game that everyone should try!

Played 100+ times
This has become my favorite game. The theme packs that come inside the game keep it fresh each time— we have played it hundreds of times. Be sure to look at the product website for free resources.

Great themed strategy game
I bought this game for the theme and humor, but I soon realized it also ranked among #1 and #2 of the most fun strategy games I own (of maybe 20-30 ranging from Letters from Whitechapel hidden movement to the 4-6 hour War of the Ring). Background about me, I normally go for the 2-3 hour long strategy board games, usually prefer sci-fi and other adventure-themed games. My favorite thing about this game is the difficult decisions: 1) Which attraction of the 8 available best matches the other cards in my hand, my personal victory point goal, or most messes with my opponents? 2) When do I build the ride/upgrade, taking a loan now (and associated VP penalty) or two turns from now when I can afford it? It should be noted there is a good amount more you can do than just build rides - events you play on your turn are a key element in your success - which range from closing others' rides, demolishing them altogether, bribing their staff, etc. I've played the game three times, twice 2-player and once 4-player and I think both are equally enjoyable. 2 player is nice because you have less going on requiring attention and your turn comes by more often giving a more smooth play. On the other hand your "mean" cards are always bent against your one opponent where in 3+ player games you can choose who you target. The theme is great, the cards often make me laugh once I realize what they imply (drunken hooligans P$%#ing all over the bathroom floor causing it to be shut down). This game gets an easy five star rating from its strong theme and strategy as well as humor. Replayability is great as well due to different attractions, events, VP goals found in the different decks you choose to use (or randomly select). Digging to find a criticism, I would say the uncertainty and confusion behind "who might be winning" or "how many victory points do I have right now" can be a little foggy, as there is a schedule of VPs each attraction is worth which follows no obvious order. It will take some getting used to in order to determine who is currently ahead and there may be surprises about who wins in the end. All in all not close to enough to bring the game down in any way. Most strategy game enthusiasts will love this game, especially if you appreciate humor and a funpark theme.

Super Cute game
The man and I play a lot of games and this one is one of my new favorites. It's a medium difficulty (proves a good amount of challenge while still being fun), has a lot of replay-ability (with all the different theme/ card types), and has good card stock and is well made. If I had to be picky, I'd ask for more themes just so I'd have more to play ;p

A lot of fun! Highly recommend!
I love love love this game. Bought it 2 days ago. We’ve already played 3 times. The first round we played as we read the rules. So the second time we played we got better, but by The 3 game, I kicked some Major butt! I already ordered the expansion pack. That’s how much I enjoyed this game. Watched a few YouTube videos on other people playing and I was sold. This is even fun with 2 players, some games are meh with 2. I was very impressed. I can’t wait to busy this game out and play with more People. Just wish the scoring for the panoramic view was in this book! Not gonna lie, I kinda wish this game was more than 8 rounds! But we have a lot of fun! Highly recommend this game!

Best game of 2017. Highly underrated.
Brilliant game with amazing components that is highly underrated. A lot of people seem to be offended by the take that aspects of this game but they are nothing extreme and nothing that you can’t prepare for, and you can also adjust the take that elements with in game variants. I mean, the name of the game is “unfair “! The theme is amazing, the card art is amazing and it is always fun and quick to play allowing various strategies for building. Great replay value as the game includes six expansion decks with various themes and emphasis on different strategies that you can mix and match for more aggressive or less aggressive gameplay. This is probably my favourite game of 2017.

My All-time favourite! Lots of strategy and strong thematic elements.
Highlights: - medium-high level complexity - lots of strategy - high replay value - approx. 1.5 hours to play - 2-5 players - lots of opportunity for player interaction and attacking other players This is one of my all-time favourite games. I love that this game involves a lot of strategy. There are several different strategic approaches, however no one strategy is better than another. There are a lot of details to learn up front which can be confusing to new players. I have played with people that don’t play a lot of board games and they can be overwhelmed at first, but it always clicks by the third round (15 minutes into the game). There is very high replay value in the game as there are several ways the game is modified. First, during game setup each player selects a theme (e.g. pirates, ninja, gangster). Different themes make the game play differently, as they vary the amount of player interaction, the types of attractions and upgrades available, and which staff members can be hired. There are also game modifiers which change the conditions of the game. For example, one modifier prevents players from attacking each other, while another changes the win condition. There is also now an expansion available which adds new themes, game mechanics, an additional currency type, and new game modifiers. The publishers also recognized that a few of the cards are unclear (though still completely playable), so they included replacement cards for this base game in the expansion; highly recommend the expansion. The object of the game is to build the best amusement park. The game ends after 8 rounds, and the player with the most points wins. Points can be gained by having money, making larger attractions, completing blueprints (building particular rides with designated upgrades) and hiring staff. Different attractions and staff members have their own effects. For example, one staff member allows you to search through the discard pile to find cards you want, while another allows you to collect coins for each of a certain type of attraction you have. There are many opportunities to interact with other players. For example, if a player plays the “contractor” card, other players may pay half price for their constructions by paying the player rather than the bank. Other cards allow you to destroy attractions, steal money, or poach staff members from other players. If you are playing with children or people who get upset when they are attacked, you can choose to use the “World Peace” game modifier which removes this element from the game.
