Fit what i needed

Exactly what i needed for my lawn mower. I own a 140cc briggs and stratton mower. I used the shower bolts as the curved longer bolts didn't fit flush to the joints where they mower folds.

The savings will cost you in time spent.

Some specs/measurements for the benefit of the customer and also the lazy retailer. Both sets of bolts have a 5/16-18 thread pitch. The longer bolt set has a shaft that is 1.8 inches and the threaded portion is 1.25 inches. The shorter bolt set (hardened) has a shaft that is 0.85 inches. Threaded portion within the knob is only 0.3 inches Total thickness of the knob, at center, is 0.89 inches. The fact that this is listed as a "universal" kit and goes on to say that the components "fit most" is laughable. The knobs are constructed in such a way that prevents the bolts from penetrating through them. I have seen a similar complaint from another reviewer, and he is quite correct. For those of you with a 5/16-18 tap on hand, this will be a minor inconvenience. For those of you who are slightly less-than-handy, you will have a real fun time figuring out what part of the knob is not playing properly and trying to decide if your dexterity with a hand drill is keen enough to mitigate the problem. For those unfortunate souls who really required 1/4-inch bolts (like me), you will need to break out the drill again to widen the holes in your mower's* handle to make room for these 5/16 bolts. While drilling, you can thank yourself for saving money with this "universal" set of nubbins from the hardware gods at Arnold. *Mower, snowblower, rototiller, same thing.

Good alternative for replacement without paying OEM prices

Used this for a MTD made Bolens branded mower. (MTD makes many brands) My mower used the shorter carriage bolts, however this kit also the 2 inch "contoured head" bolts found on some Craftsman, Husqvarna mowers. The nuts inside the plastic wingnut are lock nuts. For those reading the negative reviews about the nut not going more than a 1/4 inch. My guess is they hit the resistance of the lock-nut and gave up. You have to use more force once you get to that point, but that is the purpose of a lock-nut. You don't want it vibrating off. I found this kit to be a great buy! Compared to going direct to MTD who charge $4 + shipping for one bolt and no wing nut. This was a great price for a complete set to replace both bolts. Since the previous owner lost them and I needed all 4 pieces this was exactly what I needed.

They did the trick!

They are not perfect for my old Craftsman mower but they are close and they do the job. Sometimes I have to hold the nut with my pliers to get the bolt really tight.

Universal fit so the longer bolt was a touch long. But beats the tie wrap I was using.

Not so Universal.....

Technically on paper these bolts work. The thing is, the nut inside the "handle" has a Nylon anti-vibration insert. The thought is that your lawnmower/snowblower handle has a square hole and will "hold" the bolt in place (look at the back of the bolt and you see the square portion) while you tighten the bolt/handle. Not sure what Planet/Galaxy designates this as "UNIVERSAL". I believe another comment (should have listened) mentions this as well and that they ended up drilling the nylon ring out. Hey, Mr. Arnold.....maybe next time to make this truly UNIVERSAL you might spend 0.02 cents more and give us a regular bolt and a couple of "Tube Fit/Bent" washers (or even those split lock washers). Anyways, major PITA unless your Lawnmower/Snowblower is from planet "Arnold" that happens to have the right square cut out on the handle bars. MAJOR FAIL......Check your handle first before ordering.......If the hole is round be prepared for PAIN :-).

Not 100% universal

It did not fit my electric Craftsman lawnmower the width of the bolt was a bit too wide. The description of this product should give the diameter of the bolt.
