Crocheting for over 40 years, Boye brand hooks have always been my favorite.

One of my tricks is to rub my hook with a used fabric softener sheet. It helps the hook slip in-between the stitches more easily. I just keep a handful in my yarn bag. This is a good size to start with, your chains are big enough to see clearly to make your first rows, and to count. Start simply, with either single, half double, or double crochet until you get the feel and can do a consistent gauge; including even turns. Many inconsistent pieces can be used as mats, or even single crochet the edges together, run a string through the top edge, and pull tight-- a little hat for child or doll! The other big brand hooks don't catch and hold the whole strand of yarn, so it splits, and there is a huge mess, frustration and possibly rejection of a wonderful handicraft. Once you remember the pattern stitches, you cango fir hours while listening to music, a book, or television movies you have seen before. The Boye hooks make it more likely you will master and enjoy this craft.

It is a crochet hook!

It is a metallic size J crochet hook. When that's what you need nothing else will do. The yarn slips easily over it, the steel shaft does not bend easily. It is a standardized size. The dog does not like to chew on it. That's five good things, one for each star! The only downside is that I seem to lose these frequently and it is a good size for my arthritic hands. So that's one liability and another asset. Five stars!

Wedding dress

Worked fantastic in fastening the buttons on the back of my wedding dress! My seamstress/alterations lady suggested I get a crochet hook for whoever was helping me put on my dress. Worked great and so much faster than using your hands. So useful!!!

Product quality is good...but not the size stated

The quality of the crochet hook is very good, there are no rough points that might catch the yarn while using it. But there was a small problem. I purposely ordered a couple of these because they stated that the hook size was a 6mm, which is what I'm needing to complete a project after the 6mm hook I was using got lost. When I received the hooks they weren't 6mm, instead they are 5.75mm which is close, but will result in a different size stitch and affect the project if I were to use them. I'll keep these for something in the future, but will have to order an actual 6mm hook from someplace else.

Not as advertised!

It's not the size advertised! It's marketed as a 6mm hook, but a 5.75mm hook was delivered. Because I got it as part of the add-on program, I can't even return it. Very frustrated.

Wrong size!

I have the same issue as other reviewers. The hook is not the same as the description, comes labeled as size J at 5.75mm instead of 6mm. Can’t be bothered to send it back.
