Good, but...

My corded tool died and I replaced it with this battery piece. I was using 100 ft cord, so it is very convenient. BUT I DON'T THINK the blades works as fast as the old one, so I must work it a little harder. Luckily my need is simple and it still does the job.

Disappointing and wimpy

I own a 20v Black and Decker hedge trimmer with 22" blade that cuts like a maniac. But I didn't need another like that in my vacation home with just a couple small shrubs to trim, so I bought the Cordless Shear Shrubber Kit. Comparing it to the hedge trimmer, the blade speed for this unit is much slower, it doesn't cut through 1/4" branches as much as it chews through them, slowly. I'm also shocked how quickly it goes through 1.5 and 2.0 hour 20v batteries. Trimming a small shrub the battery, fully charged, ran out in about 15 minutes. I had to break out the hand pruners for a few branches in the 1/4" - 3/8" diameter range that it wouldn't cut. Where it really showed itself to be wimpy, was in cutting down a row of peony stalks that bogged it down and stopped cutting when facing a half dozen stalks at once. The stalks are hollow, BTW. I've trimmed such row plants like that with my hedge trimmer and it cuts through them like butter by comparison. It's handy to have for a trim up where what you're doing is shaping a shrub and cutting off the few branches that poke out like the cowlick on Alfalfa. But it's not the kind of tool you'd want to use on more than a few easily trimmed bushes - like a burning bush. More for quick touchups. Using it, I kept thinking it was better suited for a hair cut than serious shrub trimmer.

Pretty good for the price

I always start by reading negative reviews before deciding to buy anything, so It was not easy to make the decision to purchase this trimmer. I live in the Pacific northwest, and the grass is normally wet, and hand shears are difficult to use because the grass doesn't always cut cleanly. I wanted something to trim around trees and raised flower beds that I can't use the weed eater on. I was pleasantly surprised with how well this tool worked. I trimmed one foot tall grass around 200' of raised beds and short grass around several trees on a single charge. A couple of things to watch out for. Keep it out of the dirt and wear glasses. I hit a small pebble that shot straight up into my face. Could have been a bad day if I didn't have glasses on. Also,the grass shear works well but is pretty light duty. Be patient and don't try to force too much through, you will have much better results going a little slower. It would be nice if it had a little more power, but it is still much faster than using large grass shears. I would purchase again. Update: The cutting quality deteriorated quickly. It still works, but it jams often. The gears lock up and the blades stop moving. There is no way this could cut a 3/8" branch when it gets jammed with a few blades of thick stem grass. Lowering my review from 5 to 3 stars. I have tried cleaning and sharpening , but it didn't help much. Not sure if I would purchase again.

Good compatibility with other B&D tools

I had been shopping for several months for this particular tool type, but just didn’t want another battery system. I was just about to buy either Ryobi or Hart, when one more search on Amazon yield this on about the seventh page into a search. (Frustration with Amazon not showing this on the first page or two of search results.) Since I already have other B&D tools, I pulled the trigger right away when Amazon finally decided to show me this option. I have numerous other large and medium sized, and even an even smaller B&D hedge trimmer. This B&D unit that uses the standard 20v lithium battery pack is working great.

So easy and light weight to use!

Best thing I bought for myself!!! I have 5 large topiaries and wisteria that goes over an arch that needs to be trimmed up every few days. I was doing it by hand. Not sure why I hadn’t ordered this a long time ago! Saved my hand from cramping and is so easy to maneuver. A big plus is the battery is interchangeable with out weed eater and leaf blower! What more can you ask for?!

Better than I expected

I was looking for a lightweight option to touch up shrubbery & landscaping when I came across this little gem. Easy to operate, easy to change blades, & does a great job! For trimming bushes, it zipped right through with no problems. I'm on Long Island where we have a TON of forsythia bushes. This shaped & trimmed them with ease! The grass trimmer also works great. I was able to get into tight areas where my string trimmer just wouldn't reach. The battery lasted a good long time, as well, & because it's Black & Decker, the battery is interchangeable with my string trimmer & my leaf blower. BONUS! I can't always bring out the 18" electric trimmer I have, so I thought this smaller one would be an option for touch ups during the summer. I am SO happy I got it! It surpassed my expectations, & I would absolutely recommend it!

Gets the job done!

Bought to trim my cedar bushes.. did a great job for the size and price point.. not to heavy battery lasted long enough todo a good amount of work before needing recharging
