Sturdy puller. 3rd hook allows for single cable use... which works well in my application (height adjustment of gantry crane). Quality is sloppy... as with most in this price range. For example, laminated gears are crooked and won't engage ratchet pawl in the lowest position.

Gets the job done.

Was able to move some very heavy log pieces with the help of this wench. It is not very ergonomic and difficult to operate but gets the job done. Wish there metal was more rounded, the cable more securely affixed to the wheel and more comfortable controls were implemented but it was hard to beat the price so overall satisfied.

You don't get what is pictured!

The media could not be loaded. I researched pullers for a day and decided on the Big Red 4-ton because of the lever for the pawl spring as shown in the photo on Amazon product page. I passed on all others because reviewers complained about the pain from the spring when switching from engaged to not. Some other brands had a plastic sleeve over the spring, but Big Red was the only one with a lever. I ordered it and have to use it this weekend, so I don't have time to get one with the sleeve. Very disappointed in the deception. I don't know how it will perform since I just unboxed it. I will follow up after I use it tomorrow. Update - I used it, it had pawls that were out of alignment and I wasn't able to get them to both engage at the same time. After pulling a 2012 Mazda up a 12% incline, the cable started to fray. The tow straps held up fine, but the aircraft cable didn't. Probably fine for putting up fences, but I would be leery of using it for anything that could cause injury - see video

The Mechanism to disengage cable from pulley is quite tricky.

Is not well thought out, it is simply knocked off and poorly at that. Having said that I still gave it 4 stars because the price was good and I accomplished every task I used it for. (Once I got the Spool disengaged) Tricky.

You Do Not Get What Is Originally Displayed

I was expecting the top mechanism to be the same as the original photo but as you can see by my photo it is different. The cheap pullers have the spring you push with your finger and anyone who has repeatedly switched it back and forth knows it makes your thumb sore after a while. I have ordered 2 cable pullers with the supposed easier switching system but neither has been what was displayed. This one uses a similar action but still different, you don't have to press the spring to the side. There is a lever you rotate on the side that moves the spring to release. I'm not totally satisfied because of this discrepancy but I've already returned one and tired of returning things and not getting what the photo shows. I will just keep it because technically it is better than the moving the spring by hand system but certainly not what I expected. Everything else seems sturdy so I think it will work out fine. At this point I'm not even sure if what was originally pictured even exists anymore. Or even buy one anywhere that has the push button release mechanism, certainly can't trust photos so it's a gamble if you'll get what's shown or not.

Big red come-along

First the cable was too short about 3 feet long. And very dangerous to release the cable with weight on it, you need three hands and I do not want my fingers near any gears to release the cable.

Amazing, Torin (Big Red) a favourite for me

I have this 4 ton puller and I use it all the time, it was less expensive then other brands by far and works great if you stretch it out or hook it as a loop, if the hooks had a little bigger opening then 5/16ths that would have been great, but no complaints because these are drop forged hooks, shipped faster then expected, love Torin products, they sell awesome Car Jacks too!
