Good Value for the price
I used this chain hoist to remove the engine from my sailboat. It did exactly what I expected. I got the engine out. I have two complaints, First the entire hoist, chain and hooks are SOAKED in oil from the factory. I don't just mean oily, I mean absolutely DRIPPING with oil. It seems excessive. The other disappointment was the quality of the safety latches on the hooks. They are cheap and one was bent to the side. That being said, the chain hoist worked well and was easy to use. It made lifting the engine effortless. Also the hook to hook distance when fully retracted is only about a foot. This is important when working in close quarters. The bottom line, for the price, its a great value! I recommend it!

Useful, but be aware of some limitations
I got this thing to lift something very heavy in my basement, which has low ceilings. The plan was to hang the hoist from a ceiling joist and then lift the object from about waist level to about head height. The problem was, there is a minimum distance between the load hook and the body of the hoist. In other words, the hoist will not lift something all the way up to the hoist body; the chain at maximum lift is about 18" or more from the body. This limits the amount it can lift something in a situation with limited headroom. I managed to work around this problem, but it's something to be aware of. Also note that the item comes coated in grease and is sort of awkward to move around. In use, however, it works really well. It's pretty cool being able to lift with so little effort. I believe the force ratio is somewhere around 28:1, and since you're pulling down it's pretty effortless. Looking forward to testing it out on some tree stumps.

Good value, works as it should.
I hung a 4" i beam for a hoist for lifting maybe 1/2 ton max. I thought about a small electric hoist but I'm tired of fairly new electrical appliances breaking lately so I went old school with this chain hoist and couldn't be happier. First job was picking the bed up off my pickup and it worked great! The chain loop does not take much effort to pull plus it lifts/lowers faster than I thought it would. No problem. Looking forward to never having to replace this. Sometimes old school is better nowadays. I think the I beam is about 14' up and the chain lift/lower loop is maybe 10' down so it's perfect.

This chain lock hoist is phenomenol.
I used this chain hoist to lift and hold a 2" x 6" wooden frame attached to a welded steel pull up bar assembly I was installing in my garage. The entire assembly was only about 50 pounds or so but was 60" wide, 30" deep, and 30" up and down. The assembly had to be held in place while I leveled and attached the 2" x 6" lumber frame to the garage wall studs with 5" x 3/8" lag bolts. I couldn't stabilize the awkward weight on my ladder system so bought this hoist system and attached it to the wall frame header with a 3/8" eye bolt to hang from. I hooked the lower hoist hook to straps I put on the assembly and voila. I was easily able to balance the assembly with one hand while lifting with the other. Another nice feature of this hoist is the 10' lifting capability. Many hand operated hoists I considered provide only 5' of lift. For tasks under one ton, this thing is great.

Design Flaw
A terrible design decision was to make the diameter of the yoke for the bottom hook the same size as the slot in the housing through which runs the load chain. What this means, is that it is easy to jam the yoke in the housing. Which causes the user to say some very bad words.

Super useful
I had a 250 lb tool to raise from the floor to put on its stand. I may be a manly man, but I knew there was no way to dead lift this item by brawn. I considered buying a block& tackle at first. But, after looking at all the options, it became clear that this Big Red hoist was just the thing. I ordered it, and after it arrived I opened the box, hooked the hoist to a chain looped over the rafter, and in less than 3 minutes I had raided this 250 lb tool and lowered it onto its metal stand. Done. The cool thing, was I could do it with one hand, super easy. A 5 year old kid could have used the Big Red just as easily as I did. Sorry I waited all these years to buy one of these. When I think about all the crazy heavy tools I have moved with sheer muscle and a come-a-long...............groan.

Works great to lift heavy loads
I use this to take my fifth wheel hitch out of my truck by myself. The hitch weighs about 100 lbs so using this chain block was a good solution. Seems like a very good solid product. Used it 4 times so far. Wear gloves and not good clothes, there is a lubricant on the chain. Washes right off your hands. I used a towel to take most of the lubricant off. The only issue that i see with the product was on the hook with the spring closures...they are sharp and cut my strap a bit. I filed them down quickly with a file. fyi, the product itself if slightly heavy(20lbs) and bulky...stating the obvious. It takes some strength to put this up and down when you need it, like I do. 20lb's doesn't seem like a lot, but it is a pain with all the chains in the way and you are trying to not get lubricant on your clothes. Of course, that is not the products fault....just wanted to mention it for people who have bad shoulders and want to put this up and take it down when not in use. I will state that i used to use a come along to do this same thing, that took forever to do...this is a much better option since you can go up or down without pushing any release buttons.

Good on first use.
Received this chain hoist today and put it to use right away to hoist my snow blower up into storage. I also used a few endless loop straps to grab 4 spots on the blower. The chain hoist lifted the snow blower that weighs around 300ish lbs with ease. Pros. Ready to use out of the box. Chain seems of good quality. Hooks look to be strong. Cons. Has a lot of black grease on the chain (easily fixed with a few shop rags and some brake cleaner would recommend wearing disposable gloves when opening for the first time) Overall i am impressed with the quality and will update my review if anything breaks.

Just what I needed, and outstanding value
I am using three of these to suspend my boat trailer under the garage ceiling (so I can park my car under it). They are clearly overkill in terms of strength (the trailer is maybe 350 pounds total), but it goes up like a breeze and I have complete confidence it will stay up (as long as my concrete anchors hold in the ceiling). So these are perfect. One of the three arrived with the chain jammed as others have reported, but I suspect that's hard to avoid as they get tossed around during shipping. It was quickly fixed with a couple whacks from a hammer and well placed screwdriver. The chains are well greased as others have reported, so wear gloves. I'm all, these items are quite well built for my use (and fantastic value at the price). I'd happily order again.

Great deal - they work great
These were a really good deal compared to the prices everyone else sells chain hoists for. The rental places (around me at least) no longer rent them due to liability issues because they can't test the engineering on them after every rental. Used two and lifted down a 2000lb steel i-beam with ease
