Good resource
They are a nice little tool to have in helping my daughter to learn and memorize her math facts.

If you want your kids to conceptualize fact families, these cards are for you!
I love these but my first grader does not (probably because I do). She says they are hard. She'd most likely enjoy them more if I sat with her, practiced them, and made a game out of them (which I will do at some point and post an update). As a former 4th grade teacher, I would highly recommend these because life is so much easier for kids when they can conceptualize fact families. We are in a school district that uses version of Singapore Math. While I really do appreciate the benefits and deep understanding of an inquiry based math program, I still feel that if a child struggles with recalling a math fact, it's hard for them to comprehend a concept like "doubles plus one". I sort of expected my daughter to take these and run. She didn't and appears to be much less resistant to practicing with traditional math fact cards that have the answers on the back. However, those cards do not help kids see the relationship between the fact families. I think once she gets the hang of how to use them, she will enjoy these much more.

Using Number Bonds to Memorize Math Facts
I was introduced to number bonds while teaching math to my son using Singapore Math. He has struggled a little learning math facts and I was interested in number bonds because they seemed to actually teach the child how numbers relate to each other. Instead of learning 4 different facts (2 for addition and 2 for subraction) for 5+2 the child realizes that if they know 5+2=7 then they also know what 2+5=7 and 7-5=2 and 7-2=5. They see the numbers as parts of a whole. Subtraction is then a whole lot less painful to teach and to learn. These are not flashcards that I would just had to him and have him go through. I actually have to sit down and go through them with him. Also, I don't know about you, but I don't know a whole lot of kids that just LOVE to do flash cards. So I did not buy them for the fun factor. I bought them for the educational value, which I think is high. Also, on a side note. I have began to use these with my daughter who will be in 4th grade and she seems to have a better understanding of the relationship of the numbers to each other also. I wish I would have learnd my facts this way as a child and would have started with her this way sooner.

Good for fun practice
A little more interesting that strain cards but kids won’t play unless I push it

Teacher-Mom Approved
I got the +/- set and the x/division set for my kids (approaching 2nd & 4th grade). My kids do well in school, but like many students they don't have "instant recall" of basic math facts. I want to spend a few minutes each day building this skill so my kids feel confident in class. The cards arrived today. The size and quality are great. My independent kid wanted to quiz herself while my quality-time-kid wanted me to quiz her. I wasn't sure how to start without overwhelming them or making them dread the activity. Setting a timer for 5 minutes worked really well!

I got these for my 7 year old twins who are in first grade and doing well in math. Math is a priority in our house and we love any opportunity to highlight the relationships between numbers and operations. These cards do just that and offer good opportunities to talk about numbers and how they might relate to one another. I think it's generally a good idea to present addition as an operation fluidly related to subtraction (and vice versa) as opposed to presenting the two as rigidly different operations. Along the same lines, these cards organize the material in a way that allows us to play games with numbers (i.e. I see 3 numbers on my card. I'll tell you 2 of them and you need to guess the third --which easily be adapted to suit a variety of exercises and math conversations). I also appreciated the quality of the cards themselves: in the process of handling them they felt solid and well-constructed as opposed to being flimsy and easily bent.

Great Concept! Cards could be of higher quality...
This is a great resource for teaching addition and subtraction! It not only allows for drilling of the tables up to 12, but introduces and reenforces the understanding of the inter-relationship between addition and subtraction. The student learns, for example, that 2+3 = 5, 3+2=5, and therefore 5-2=3 and 5-3=2 - all it one card! In my opinion, this form of teaching is much more effective, helpful, and interesting than simply drilling each addition and subtraction problem separately. The only problem I foresee is that the cards present the answers too easily if one does not cover a corner in time. I think that it will probably best be used in conjunction with traditional flash cards and tables. Finally, I left off one star because the cards have rough edges; it seems that they are printed on sheets and perforated and are removed from the sheets before packaging. They have perforation "bumps" all along two of the three sides. They would be nicer if they had smooth edges and perhaps were printed on smoother, shiner card-stock such as that used for most decks of regular playing cards. All in all, and intriguing and useful product.
