Third Hand with Tweezers
The third hand I got does not look like the image. It is actually a lot nicer than the image. The actual base has two levels to it compared to the image which shows three. The bottom level of the base is painted in red which in my case helps me distinguish my third hand from others since I am in a studio environment where there are other students who have their own. The base itself has a very nice weight to it which I really like and reassures me that it will not tip over. One aspect of the base that is not in the product description is that on the underside of the base there is a rubber ring that helps prevent the base from sliding across a surface! Big Plus!!! Moving on to the multi-position swivel clamps. The clamps look very sturdy and have a nice thickness to it. I have used other third hands that have thin clamps and because of that if the clamp is over tightened the clamp breaks. I do not believe that will be an issue for this product. One downside for having thick clamps, at least for me, is that it is a bit hard to tighten and because of that the swivel clamp moves a bit too freely for my liking. At the moment, this has not caused too much trouble at all but I wish that I could tighten the swivel clamp a lot more. As for the tweezers, they have a good craftsmanship finish. So far, I have used this product on a daily basis in 7-10 occasions for soldering copper using a natural gas torch and the tweezers are already started to misshapen at the tip which is unfortunate. Nonetheless, they still securely hold whatever I am soldering with no problem. Let's hope the tweezers last longer! Third hands are very useful and come in handy a lot so I decided to order a second third hand!

Sturdy tweezers on a well weighted base that provide very steady “extra hand” ….so glad I bought 2!

I Needed a 4th Hand to Hold the 3rd Hand
The base of the 3rd hand tweezers is fairly heavy making it stable. However, I wanted this for holding wire and thin metal jewelry pieces while wire wrapping and removing burs. The tweezers do not hold the wire or small thin pieces of flat metal; everything slips through the tweezers even though they grip well when the items are not not being handled. I needed a fourth hand to hold the third hand.

I have used third hands for many years, in both macro photography and small scale oxy-acetylene soldering. The Aven 17012 is an economical light-weight alternative (about 9oz vs 20oz for the more expensive models). I would not use them in any situation that may be dangerous, like soldering. Nor could they be used to hold anything heavy. They're ok for holding small objects that you are working with under safe conditions. In the listing picture, the forceps are shown attached at the end of the handle. I have found that these particular third hands are easier to manipulate if the forceps are attached near their center to only one arm of the forceps. There is also better balance that way, so heavier objects can be held with the forceps.

Nice!
The base is very heavy and the tweezers are heavy duty also. This thing works well and I have enjoyed it. The only small issue is that the compound angle adjustment is hard to get tight enough to hold and it can deform at times. This is a minor thing overall though, and I am happy with the purchase.

OK - but hard to tell What I got. What I received came poking through a cheap white cardboard box (the base) - with the tweezers packed separately in a cellophane wrapper - both bundled together with some plastic wrap. There were absolutely no markings on the base, the tweezers or the box. Otherwise it seems OK - holds position fairly well as long as you are not trying to secure anything much heavier than an earing.

As described. Useful product.
The third hand is as described. The only thing that I would have preferred was it coming with tweezers with a heat resistant handle instead of all metal. Still a great product.
