I like it. The birds? Not so much.

I bought this feeder, as well as two of Aspects 420 Antique Brass Quick Clean Big Tube Feeders from Amazon. The Aspect’s thistle feeder is ‘almost’ as impressive built as Aspect’s Big Tube Feeders that my birds absolutely LOVE . . . but unfortunately, the birds do not seem to be impressed with the thistle tube feeder. I keep finding this to be the case with thistle tube feeders. I was optimistically hoping this brand would be different, but it seems birds are attracted to the less attractive, less expensive sock feeders far more than tube thistle feeders. I replaced an old thistle sock-type feeder that gold finches and house finches flocked to with this far more expensive tube-type feeder . . . the one that stays filled with thistle seed, because no bird seems to want to visit it. I’ve changed the seed several times, but still no luck throughout the summer months. I’m hoping after a winter break, the newness of spring will be all that is needed for my attractive Aspect Thistle Feeder to be frequented with all my thistle loving friends. What can I say? I’m an optimist. Time will tell. Until I see birds visiting my tube feeder, I will have to recommend that anyone hoping to attract our beautiful thistle eating friends for lunch to avoid purchasing this feeder (perhaps any thistle tube feeders), and purchase a less expensive sock-type feeders instead.

lowest perch fell off the bottom

This is a good, serviceable finch feeder. It looks nice and is easy to clean. Sadly, one of the bottom perches fell off and I couldn't find it to try to glue it in.

Great Design & Customer Service (with one minor exception)

This bird feeder is wonderfully designed to solve the biggest problem I face with bird feeders: how to keep them clean for our winged friends! I love the quick-release base AND the "mountain peak" design at the base of the feeder: best I've encountered in years of bird feeders. I also had great success redirecting songbirds from my old (very hard to clean) wired nyger feeder. I simply hung this new feeder alongside the old one (after one last desperate cleaning!) and the birds learned to use the new feeder. Alas: there is still one design flaw here: for "deep cleaning" (we all know that bird feeders need this....nyger seed manages to get into anything it can....) you are supposed to be able to remove the base but it's incredibly hard to do. You risk breaking the plastic while forcing the tabs with a screwdriver (or something similar). Still: if you aren't worried about the seeds that get stuck down in the very base of this feeder (below the feeding section)....it's really well-designed with a quick-release of the part that matters most and the plastic sides (with only small feeding slots for songbirds) help to ensure the seed inside the feeder won't be spoiled and non-avian critters cant get to the seed (chipunks loved my old wired nyger feeder.....) I am hopeful that I won't need to risk breaking the plastic tabs at the base to ever need to clean out the "below where the birds feed" section of the feeder.

Good quality but do the birds like it?

I looked in stores and online and saw a wide range of quality in thistle feeders. I was impressed with the pictures and reviews of this feeder. And it is well constructed with good quality parts, but it should be as it was one of the more expensive ones I checked out. After three weeks of use the major concern is - will birds feed from it? For the first two weeks, zero. Birds wouldn’t even land on the perches. Week 3 we saw a few goldfinches going for the thistle seed and the numbers are increasing very slowly. But it’s not designed to be a come one ,come all feeder, it’s more specialized to appeal to finches. And they seem to be liking it more but it has been a very slow process.

Nice Feeder for Goldfinches

I got this feeder hoping to attract goldfinches to my yard. (I'd seen a few in the yard over the winter and then they disappeared even though I had the nyjer seed socks up.) I got the feeder in early June and filled it with nyjer seed. At first I got no customers. After a few weeks, I tried moving it (twice) and also got some fresh nyjer just in case what I'd had had gotten stale. Nothing. Then one day in August, a couple of goldfinches appeared in my yard, seemingly attracted to the Black-eyed Susans and Zinnias and Sunflowers in my yard. I didn't see them around the feeder at first. It took a few days but they finally found this feeder and my yard has been hopping with goldfinches ever since. The feeder itself seems well made. It is easy to refill. (I top off the seed every few days.) I like that you flip it over and add seed to the bottom, which moves the fresh seed through the feeder (unlike some feeders where the seed at the bottom is never eaten.) The feed ports are TINY and it's hard to imagine that the birds can get the seed out, but they can. It keeps the seed very dry. I am quite happy with this purchase.

Lifetime warranty

I have used Aspects feeders for over 26 years. The hold up in the weather and the new quick clean design is awesome. When they say lifetime warranty, they mean it, I have had small parts replaced, like the plastic foot holds with absolutely no problem. These feeders never rust out on you either. I have four different kinds. Two tube feeders for regular bird seed and sunflower seeds, one for niger seed and another for peanuts
