Perfect replacement
The mount that came with the Garmin won't stay on the dash for more than a few hours. This unit has been on for over 6 months and hasn't budged. Highly recommended.

Anyone who has purchases a Garmin GPS knows that the included windshield mount is virtually useless. Anyone who has also tried buying a replacement windshield mount also knows that most replacement mounts are only slightly better, will work only temporarily, and eventually (rather quickly), become virtually useless. In short, this is the only mount that has every worked well for me (I've had at least 3 different ones that were more expensive than this one). Some things to consider before buying this: 1. Make sure your windshield is clean before attaching the mount. Automobile windshields are prone to oil build-up that will reduce the adhesive properties of this device. I use alcohol wipes but there are stronger cleaning solutions out there for extremely dirty windshields. 2. If you use the suction cup (I use the suction cup), the first few times you install the device, IT WILL FALL OFF after a few hours or sometimes even several minutes. Do not panic. This is normal - especially if you live somewhere where the weather and temperature constantly shifts. The first few times you install this on your windshield, the rubber suction pad expands and contracts a few times causing it to un-stick itself from the windshield. After a few days, the rubber will get used to the environment and will stop expanding and contracting and will pretty much remain mounted to your windshield unless you remove it. During the workday, I park my car outdoors for several hours a day where it is subject to extreme heat (and a few months and odd days of extreme cold - Texas weather is unpredictable). Even under these conditions, the mount remains stuck to the windshield. This product is highly recommended. It's sturdy, affordable, and, most importantly, it actually stays on your windshield.

Perfect!
For a decade, I had an old StreetPilot wired into my car. It came with a mount that attached to the dash and held the unit rock solid. That antique finally gave up the ghost and I had to replace it, but all the new models come with lousy windshield mount. They obstruct my line of sight and they just plain don't hold; I'll be driving down the freeway and the GPS will come loose and start sliding around. I ordered this mount as a replacement for the one that came with my Garmin, and it is absolutely perfect for the job. The suction cup has adhesive on it, so once you put it in place, it's going to stay there until you take it off. It also allowed me to mount the screen low enough so it doesn't obstruct my view in the slightest. It almost looks like it's built into the car. Only one little flaw, the mount does not traverse left or right, you can only adjust the elevation (up/down). Once you attach it, it's staying at whatever left/right angle you've got it at, and the adhesive on the suction cup is strong enough that it is difficult (but not impossible) to remove. So make sure you've got the angle right before pushing the suction cup down. (The ball allows slight left/right adjustment of the GPS on the mount, if you need a minor adjustment.) I would not recommend this mount if you need something to transfer between cars because the adhesive is very strong, but if you want a more-or-less permanent mount, buy it!

Lasted 6 Years!
I had this for 6 yrs & would occasionally switch b/n cars, which was probably responsible for it's eventual fail. I think my husband would just try to pull this off windshield to switch cars but since no men read instructions, you have to break the seal by lifting rubber edge 1st, which he didnt do. It would have lasted a lot longer. I was very impressed it lasted as long as it did & recommend it. Btw, I would never put a gps in my dash or close to it. Middle of the windshield where you take your eyes off the road the least is safest.

Very pleased, it's how Garmin should have made their suction cup mount!
Adds versatility in where you can position your Garmin GPS that the Garmin suction cup mounts can't provide. First, the ball swivel head is very different from a Garmin suction cup mount, it has been extended out from the end of the arm to provide clearance for the collar the ball snaps into. That greatly increases the amount of travel that the GPS can be rotated on the ball, increasing the angle the GPS can be positioned at. Second, of course is the adjustable arm... coupled with the added swivel travel, it just opens up all sorts of position options on your dash or windshield. The bottom of the base has a deeper recess than the Garmin mount that draws the cup further up into the base, which increases the suction and holding force of this mount. That along with the softer, more flexible material that the cup is made from, really makes this thing stick. On a smooth surface, I found that just pushing down on the mount without even flipping the locking lever, it already affixes itself, flipping the lever to increase the suction positively locks it into place. This mount has been used on a 2013 Honda Accord and a 2014 Chevy Cruze, without a need to use the included adhesive backed disc.

Great suction power
It’s very well made better than the one that came with my garmin. I stuck it to my dash board . The original wouldn’t do this .

wow!
I really expected the same type of suction/ holding power that I've experienced with previous gps mounts- which, sadly, has not been very good- but, wow, was I wrong!! This pedestal is terrific!! I was able to attach this directly to the dash on my van- without the included (and damaged- not happy there) disk- and wow, does it stick!! I have a more textured surface on my other vehicle, so- not sure if it will work as good there. I'll likely need to use the disk, if the surface isn't too badly scratched up. If it wasn't for the disk having the tape on the bottom, I would have thought it was a used one- very marked up. I don't want to send this unit back just because of the disk, but- I might have to? Anyways- the pedestal itself is fantastic! And it's very adaptable - an excellent buy. I would have given it 5 stars easy, except for the damaged disk.

Very happy with this product
The dash on my car is very textured, so the additional adhesion base was a welcome addition. It holds very well and positioned the GPS exactly where I needed it. It holds a 7 inch Garmin without any issues and it’s very sturdy.
