Not for testing salinity in saltwater aquariums
I'm quite certain this is a high-quality product and worth all the positive reviews. I was really excited to have a device that would measure pH, salinity, and more in my saltwater aquarium. Unfortunately though, it can't be used to measure salinity in a saltwater aquarium, because it only measures salinity to 10ppt (saltwater aquariums need to be around 35ppt). Sure, I could keep it for the pH and other functions it offers, but for the price I can't justify keeping it when there are other highly-rated products out there at a lower price point that will do everything else this one does. I wish the product description would have been clearer about the salinity measurement limitation. I'll reluctantly be returning this and purchasing two separate devices, one for salinity, and one for pH, EC, TDS, etc.

Worth the extra money when compared to others
I’m using this for a grow room water. The ability to measure ph and ec really changed the quality of life for all my plants. Additionally I use it to ph my humidifier water as well as the plants take water in thru the leafs as well.

Helped me solve ph and ppm /tds problems in a hydronic grow. Works great.
Helped me solve ph/ppm/tds/ problems i otherwise wouldnt have been able to identify.

Awesome but fragile
Awesome product but the probes are pretty fragile. Broke the probe the first week accidentally dropping it. 85$ for a new probe is high, however this is a key item in my set up. And one should not skimp when dealing with ph and ppm. Accuracy matters and this gets the job done well.

Sequence
On the expensive side. With my eyesight, damn near impossible for me to read what mode it is in. Compensated this by learning the sequence of modes so it always starts at the far upper left which is the pH reading mode and that small little indicator moves to the right each time you hit the boat button.

Great investment!
I'm giving this 5 stars even though I had to return and replace the first one I bought. It worked great for about a week and a half. Then the blue backlight no longer worked and despite calibrating it multiple times, the PH of the water kept getting different readings that were too far apart (using the same glass of water and rinsing the probe in distilled water + drying it before testing again). I contacted Apera, outside of Amazon, to see if I should return it or if I was doing something wrong and they emailed me back the next day. Their suggestion was to return it because it was defective. That was great customer service. I requested a replacement through Amazon and they said it would take 4 days to get the new one. It got here 2 days later. We were very impressed and surprised. So far the new one is doing everything it is supposed to. It is easy to read, easy to adjust and the backlight is a nice added touch. Backlight: Blue is when you are measuring your water. Just so you can read it in the dark if you have to. You can go into setup to adjust if you want the backlight always on, always off or on for 1 minute when you press the power button. Green backlight is when you are calibrating the probe itself and will not come on any other time. The kit came with 4 and 7 calibration solution along with 2 other conductivity calibration solutions, a probe cap that can be used to store the probe in the storage solution (also included in the kit, but it's really tiny and goes fast), plus a lanyard. Be sure NOT to get the 2 black probes wet with the storage solution. Only the clear ball should be in the storage solution. We don't really use the lanyard...it just seems to get in the way for us. In the kit comes the instruction/owner's manual along with a laminated card that is a step by step guide to calibrating the probe. It's large and perfect when you are working around liquid. The Apera website has videos for you to watch if the instructions seem a bit confusing. If you are doing any type of hydroponic gardening, this is a great investment to have. It provides PH, Conductivity, TDS (ppm reading) and Salinity measurements. UPDATE: I accidentally ruined the probe by allowing the 3M KCI soaking dilution to touch the 2 black bars. BE SURE TO NEVER LET THE BLACK PROBES TOUCH THE KCI SOLUTION WHEN NOT IN ISE AND SOAKING. ONLY THE CLEAR GLOBE SHOULD BE IN THE SOLUTION. It took a while for it to fail, but it was not the fault of the product. I ordered a replacement probe from Amazon and it’s working like new. I put a piece of painters tape on the probe cap so I know how high the KCI solution can be withoufht touching the black bars. Easy to change out as well.

Hobby Hydroponic Growers Best Friend
Last year I asked my wife if I could grow an herb garden on the deck. We love to cook and fresh herbs and they are never handy when you need them. She agreed. Like every other hobby I get into, I go BIG. That little container herb garden morphed into various gardens. I built 3 different 4x8 raised garden beds, added more containers all over the property filled with fruits and veggies, and built various hydroponic systems. I have 2 hydroponic vertical strawberry walls hanging off my deck railing. A dutch bucket bean tower and tomato systems. DWC herb and hot peppers. I am working on a fogger based hydro system. Following nutrient mixing directions online, I was seeing some issues with my hydro systems. I had a cheap pH meter and PPM meter. I decided to buy a more professional meter to make sure my pH and nutrient levels were accurate. They were not. After getting the Apera PC60, I found that my pH meter was off by .5! In hydroponics that is a huge gap. My PPM meter was off some as well, but not as bad. This tool is really helping me get my hydroponics under control. The Apera PC60 is super easy to use. It comes with everything needed to calibrate and feel confident in your readings. I even tested it against a 1000 TDS calibration solution I had and it read great! The display is easy to use and the back light is very handy. I love that the "cap" is built in a way to put your liquid in, with a fill line, and closes securely around the pen. It then is able to calculate the different levels in the liquid. I no longer have to bend over and hold my pen in the nutrient reservoirs. One of the best features is the ability to set the TDS factor. This is important because PPM is calculated differently in different parts of the world. It gets very confusing. Here in the US, we take the E.C. value and multiple by 500 to get PPM. So an E.C. of 2.0mS will be 1000 PPM. In Europe and other parts of the world, you take the E.C and multiply bey 700. So an E.C. of 2.0mS is 1400 (2x700). When looking at various sites on the internet to get nutrient strength suggestions, they very based on where they are located. You can either do the math yourself, or set the parameter in this pen to match your needs. Awesome!

4 months and stopped working! But please read the update.
This instrument has stopped working properly after just 4 months of use. Seriously disappointed about this. I have emailed a apera and am awaiting a response. Since it stopped working properly, I’ve looked at more reviews which also say that the instrument stops working after a few months. This is not a cheap piece of equipment and should surely provide more than 4 months of working properly! UPDATE Apera are very responsive and replied almost instantly to my email. They suggested a few things to try which haven't worked. They wanted me to sent the instrument back to OHIO! and pay the delivery costs. Fine, thought i, but as a result of faulty readings and using pH adjustments according to the readings I have ended up tragically with dead plants. Currently I have asked for either a replacement sent FOC or reimburse me so I can get another one quickly through Amazon prime which would be next day delivery. To be fair I loved this equipment up until is stopped working properly. It would have been OK if it had just gone off or gave really wild readings, but it didn't, so I hade appropriate adjustments according to the ph on the instrument. Massive error. My plants are now dead even though I flushed them when I realised the meter was wrong. Just too late. UPDATE Apera themselves were unable to replace the defective item BUT a 5 minute chat to customer services at Amazon had a replacement shipped out within a couple of days! I recommend anyone to speak to customer services at Amazon if there are issues with anything to do with your orders. They have a can do attitude! NOW- this is the important bit; research care of a pH probe. Check it’s accuracy very frequently and have yourself a backup instrument incase of worst case scenario! Apera are good instruments, but in many respects I wish I had gone down the blue lab route. On balance I think blue lab have a more usable set of instruments. Yes they are more expensive but they seem to be easier to read, easier to use etc. If you can’t afford blue lab, Apera is a very good option. DO take very good good care of whatever ph probe you buy and constantly check it’s accuracy and recalibrate. All probe manufacturers SHOULD go into detail on probe care, frequency of checks and when recalibration is needed.

EC & PPM Troubleshoot (They don't break)
Read that lots of people were saying the conductivity probe would stop working after weeks to months of use. This did make me hesitate buying the product however I thought if it fails, I will just return it. 2 weeks in, I start getting the 0.00 readings like i've read so much about but the PH worked fine.. Im not going to lie I thought it was time to send it back but I thought to myself. I wonder if it's running out of battery. The batteries this instrument is supplied with are of extreme poor quality. The buy a pack of 100 for a pound type.. SWAP THE BLOODY BATTERYS! The testers are fine, keep the probes moist and follow the guidelines. For god sake people, if something that runs of batteries starts to act faulty, don't start kicking off at the manufacturer before making this simple check. To me this is common sense.

Good quality piece of Equipment.
Seems well built. Easy to calibrate. Nicely packaged in a handy box with everything you need to use, and maintain the pen. Instructions are clear and there is a handy quick reference guide which is laminated. Used it for the first time yesterday and I really like it.

Look at other options first
Been using this a while and though I trust the readings you do have to calibrate quite often and the ph reading is very slow. If I had my time again I would buy the separate HH waterproof models.

Hydroponic Herb Garden
We’ve being using the PC60 for a month to monitor our hydroponic herb garden and are very pleased with it as it allows us to keep the water at the ideal PH and nutrient level and are getting amazing results. It took a while to calibrate but the videos on YouTube from Apera and others were clear to follow and once setup it’s easy to use and from testing in a number of solutions appears to be consistently accurate. I’ve dropped it into the water reservoir a number of times so glad it’s waterproof, the storage case is solid and keeps the tester and calibration solutions securely together.
