Great product and customer service.
Works great. Smooth controlled cable line release. The fishing line release arrived broken. I called customer service and it arrived the next day. I really like this downtigher.

Failed quickly. Don't count on any product support.
Short version, I bought this in December 2013. By the middle of January it was not working (after 7 fishing trips). It would bring the ball about half way up and stop. You had to hold the up button continuously to retrieve it all the way. I called Canon and they said to bring it into their factory authorized repair shop in Shoreline (Angler's Choice fishing shop). A week later they called and they said it was fixed. They said there was some corrosion on the bearings and I needed to spray this with wd 40 after every use. I thought that was kind of weird since this downrigger is meant for saltwater use, you would think it would have stainless steel parts where they are exposed and not corrode so quickly. Also, I would hose it off with freshwater after every trip. Anyway, I picked it up in the morning and went out salmon fishing in the San Juan Islands. I got out there to my favorite spot 4 hours later and discovered that the repair shop had forgot to put the depth counter gear back in after the repair. This made the downrigger useless and a completely shot day of fishing. I lost two 12 pound lead balls in trying to guestimate the ball depth, to say nothing of the gas and time for the entire driving and boating trip. I took it back to the shop and asked them if they had even bothered to test it after they said it was fixed. I got a blank stare and a "sort of" apology. They found my counter gear on their shop bench. So, I sent a letter to Cannon on their website with complete details of the whole thing. A month later I have received no reply whatsoever from Cannon. Nothing. I realize mistakes happen, but when they do, you hope a company stands behind their product. Update - It has been another six months since I notified Cannon of this issue. No response still. Amazing.

Magnum 10 STX is Awesome!
Bought 2 magnum 10 STX and they are awesome. The 5 STX doesn't come with a swivel base that's why I opted for the 10 STX that come with a swivel base. The weight stops at the water line every time. Fast up and down, you can slow it by using the clutch but I didn't because it was perfect. I do recommend getting the retro-ease weight retriever or the scotty retriever because reaching over the side of the boat pulling in the 10lbs weight and keeping control of the weight while hooking your line on the clip get a little frustrating at times. After hand cranking the cannon mini for years it's nice to be able to hit the switch and not have one buff arm.

Fish can dive, but they can't escape
Great product! It does take a little time to get used to the really fast retrieve, but once you do fishing deep water >40 feet has never been easier. Bought two of them and can't tell which one I'm using. Would definitely recommend them and I finally got my wife to use a downrigger. She didn't like to raise a 10 lb weight by hand. I don't quite understand the technology behind the system that stops the weight at the surface, but it sure works well. The amount of adjustment on the riggers is unbelievable and I frequently use both by myself, while running the trolling motor.. If they were a little lighter they would be five stars.

Fast retrieving, great price
I like how fast the magnum 5 retrieves and how fast you can get to the depth quickly and the price is great, also the magnum 5 does not come with the swivel base you have to buy the magnum 10 to get the swivel base or pay for the swivel base separately but I will get a swivel base at a later time, the magnum 5 works great for what I like to fish for, trout, great product and well made.

Good product but could use better QC
Works well overall. One of the two I ordered was missing a nut in the housing for attaching the rod holder. All the rubber washers on the screws in the housing were overtightened, seriously deforming the washers. Their customer service was easy to work with to get the missing hardware but it was an unnecessary delay.

awesome
works great, nice heavy connectors. Used 2 of these on recent Salmon trip in Lake Ontario and several walleye trips in lake Erie. The speed is fast and takes some getting used to. Auto up works great but you'd better use a backing plate when mounting as the whole boat shakes when the 12lb weight breaks the surface and stops on a dime.

Design flaws
Had mine for two years, it’s a good unit but be warned to drill a drain hole in the bottom. Mine stopped working a could months ago, took the side cover off and the inside was full of water, the circuit board is corroded and no old, motor seems to be ok but also corroded all over. Not sure why this is designed this way to apparently let water in but no back out.

I recommend buying this product from this supplier
I haven't used this much yet but if it works as good as my other cannon rigger which I expect it will it deserves a five rating. Very quick shipping and no problems with ordering from this supplier.
