Fast solution and NO rewiring.

Great solution for pulling a lot of newer boat (and other) trailers with SURGE disk brakes and 5-wire flat connectors. Older drum surge brakes could not apply the trailer brakes in reverse. New trailer surge disk brakes work in both directions and will lock up when your hitch compresses when you try and back-up. The extra wire in the 5-way connector provides an electrical signal from your reverse lights which disables the brakes so when you back-up, the compression of your hitch mechanism doesn't stop your trailer from moving. This adapter handles all that potential rewiring with electrical feeds that are already inside a properly wired 7-way receptacle. Just plug-in and go.

For your trailer with ELECTRIC BRAKES

If you have a trailer with electric disc brakes, you need THIS adapter. I bought two others before I got the correct thing. This one can override the electricity to the brakes when your vehicle is in reverse. Otherwise, the brakes on the trailer lock up and things don't go so well. It shouldn't have taken me two missteps before I got it right. I was given goofy information AND I'm a first time boat owner - so it was like dumb and dumber .

Works Great for what Intended

Simple product that does what it is suppose to do. I have a boat trailer and you have to use this to convert from the five pin connector to the more common 7 pin connector that is more commonly found installed on trucks and SUVs now. I'm not sure why the trailers don't have a 7 pin because that is what is most common. My advice, keep this in your glove compartment and disconnect from trailer harness when not in use. people like to steal these adapters

Handy to have if your truck only has a 7 ...

Handy to have if your truck only has a 7 pin connector but the trailer has 5. Connection was a bit loose after a long haul and trailer lights were blinking, but it was over 400 miles and only needed to be snugged up at a gas station. Not a big deal

It's difficult to find stuff for flat 5 connectors. This works very well, no connection issues, stays in place, no problems so far. I hope it lasts for a long time!

Not for running CONSTANT auxiliary power.

Maybe this review will help someone else. I have a 2005 Chevy 2500HD, factory trailer 7 way round plug. I wanted to have the auxiliary 12volt constant power to light up a LED light bar for my jet ski trailer. This plug on the 7 way round end doesn't have contacts in all the 7 holes. When you change out your standard 4 way flat connector on your trailer to a 5 way flat connector you obviously gain another wire, the blue one. The Blue wire in the round 7 way connector end in connected to the center pin, which is the backup lights/reverse. No constant 12 volt power there (this is pin 7). I needed the blue wire to be on pin 4. When you open up the connector you can't pull them out to change over to another slot (4). So, probably what I should have order is a 7 way round with all contacts in all 7 holes and a 5 way flat and hardwired it myself. Lesson learned. So if you want constant auxiliary power for your trailer for something, this plug won't provide it. Hopefully this makes sense.
