I do a lot of painting, and go through cleaning wipes and paper towels like mad. I also care for multiple cats, with a litter box kept in the bathroom. My 3-gallon automatic-opening trash can was filling up quickly with paper products and such - so I decided to look for the largest sized one I could fit in the bathroom. I decided to go for the iTouchless 8-gallon round trash can. I really liked that it was available in matte black. Well, the fits in nicely in my smallish monochrome bathroom - both looks and size-wise. It arrived without a ding or scratch, and the products box is thick and there's plenty of styro panels lining the top, bottom and corners. I've had it in use just about 17 hours, but am largely satisfied. I really do like the matte black finish and the minimal look of the can. Also, the deodorizer component is a nice feature I hadn't expected. The auto flap is relatively quiet, and smooth in operation. On my prior automatic bathroom trash pail, the sensor could be adjusted to best suit the location of the can. Unfortunately, I cannot do that with this iTouchless can, and found that when I'm walking past the can, the lid opens. I guess it'd be more ideal if the sensors only detected overhead motion, as opposed to picking up movement in front of the can. When I have some time, I'll see if there's a way I can neatly block the sensor from the front, so it only opens when I pass my hand directly over the detection "eyes". I like the set of buttons you can push to keep the trash can lid's flap open for up to five minutes ("Stay-Open" mode), and then push to close when finished tossing multiple pieces of garbage over such a period of time. That's another feature I hadn't considered previously, but already have found useful while giving my bathroom a brief but thorough cleaning earlier this morning. I also appreciate the large opening - no issues tossing a used bottle of surface cleaning through the top. The trash bag retainer ring seems to hold the bag well - and neatly, too! No bag top hanging over the bin!. I do miss not having a removable interior canister, as that made cleaning my former automatic trash can easier, and allowed me at times to remove the canister and toss the contents into a larger trash bag, without changing the small pail's bag at that point. Oh, I did spend the extra money on the optional power adapter for iTouchless, since I happen to have a wall outlet just a few feet from where I placed the unit. I can't, therefore, evaluate how long a set of batteries would keep the automatic trash can in operation. All in all, I'm pleased with this purchase, and would certainly recommend the iTouchless trash can.
