Outdoor Survivability of Unit
Got my first 01012M 5-1n-1 system August, 2018. By January, 2020 (17 months), I started getting crazy, inaccurate outdoor temp and dew point temp readings (-40° F, +135°F, etc). I read online (and on the Acurite blog) that this was a known issue. One "remedy" was to disassemble the unit and thoroughly clean the CCA contacts on the main sensor board. This procedure worked for the couple of additional times that the problem returned, until February 2021, when I could no longer get it to work, at which time I ordered a complete VN1TXC 5-in-1 Weather Sensor replacement. It is now April, 2023 (26 months later) and, predictably, the problem is back. I am done with climbing an extension ladder (I'm no "spring chicken") to disassemble the unit to apply an unreliable temporary fix, and I am not going to buy yet another entire replacement sensor assembly. A system that is designed to monitor outdoor conditions has to be able to reliably operate in those conditions, which, in my case, are relatively benign as I live in Hawaii. If you would drop a few more development dollars into your reliability issues - make the sensor CCA more robust - jacketed connectors or a conformal coating on the moisture-sensitive areas of the board. And for the unit body, source out a plastic resin that has better UV stabilization. Second photo shows original (2 yr old) unit in foreground and results of sun exposure. Material was quite brittle as well. I really like the Acurite system, but these are deal-breakers for me. Time for a new supplier.

52 months of trouble-free service - cant complain about that
After 52 months of trouble-free service, the rain gauge began to fail and the wind-cup bearings started to go bad so I decided to replace just the outdoor Sensor unit (the indoor Display unit is still functioning perfectly). New Sensor installed with no problems and now my weather station is back to perfect operation. This replacement Sensor is very reasonably priced so I didnt even consider any other product. TIP... keep the display-unit back lighting on its lowest level and it should last for years.

Great Gadget, BUT
Had one for 4 years, got a new one, set up the software. It worked for about a week (the software) then it just quit. tried everything Acurite said it just don't work but the unit itself and the indoor sensor work fine. Oh! can't even get the software to install on an android phone. S22

Perfect replacement item!
Found this by accident…but not a moment too soon. I was about to buy a whole new weather system (with a new station) when I stumbled onto this. Saved me about $50! First one made it 2 years, then one of the logic boards went nutso. There’s a way you are suppose to be able to swap out the component board involved. But that involves sauder, and I just didn’t want to mess with that. This ends up being far easier without spending a ton extra. Definitely recommend if you need to replace your old one.

My second one in five years
The fact that my previous one took a beating and lasted almost 5 years, that's good. Accurite's products are not 100% perfect, but they are really really good for the money. My first one was mounted only about 6 feet above the ground, and with nearby trees I had to mentally accommodate for that when looking at wind speeds/direction. This second one is at the north apex of my house's roofline - about 22 feet above the ground (2 feet above the roof). Granted, I know that the roof itself will at times play havoc with wind direction and maybe wind speed, but I've gotten way better results now. I see no difference between the two units except where I placed it, so that's on me. :) Being much higher up now, I have noticed considerably better range to my portable display screen as well as to my internet-connected hub from Accurite. (Again, placement is everything) I like the solar-powered fan inside to help blow regular air around instead of giving overly hot readings during the summer. I have traditional mercury and spring-wound thermometers around the outside and this is definitely within a degree or so, which means I feel pretty confident in its readings. One thing to note: this is not National Weather Service Grade stuff. You get what you pay for. By no means is this a five dollar garden thermometer. It's way better. But also, you are not going to get real-time wind speed/directions (only happens about every 15-18 seconds), nor are you going to get 99.999999% results. I've used Accurite's products now for several years and I'm more than happy. Finally, battery life: seems to give me more than 6-8 months before I have to change out the batteries. Very good in my opinion. I will soon opt for the add-on that extends the battery pack closer to the ground so a ladder is not needed to change them out in my installation. If anything changes unexpectedly with this second install, I will update this review.

Reliable, popular, low budget weather station
I've used these AcuRite sensors for over 10 years. This is my 3rd unit. My experience is they go caput in about three to four years due to the ravages of the sun. Also, spiders can get into the rain gauge, so once a year you might have to disassemble the unit and clean out the the rain sensor area (get help from UTube). The receiver displays work great, but the newest ones have no battery backup, so if you lose power, you lose all stored data. I've never hooked these up to Wi-Fi, so no comment there. Overall, not a bad system for about $20 per year.

perfect fit for my old unit
My old unit was reading -40 so I did the cleaning suggested on their sire site but it made no difference, I was quiote happy they were still making the 5 in 1 model so I could just buy the sensor part. Took me about 3 mintues to reinstall the new one and everything is back up and running

Love it
This is our second one. The desert heat and sun eventually decided to replace it. Read the temp daily and wind. We love this monitor. Rely on it every day to see our morning temp. Especially good in the desert. Buy it you’ll like it. Did take a while to get the rain fall rate, but since it seldom rains here didn’t care if exactly accurate. Close enough.

Great while they last
These are good units, after calibrating them they are pretty accurate. My beef is the manufacturer doesn't seem interested in Canadian customers. I tried for over a week to buy a temp/humidity sensor replacement to repair my old unit to no avail. It failed after two years. They won't even accept Canadian Paypal accounts for payment! If I didn't like it so much I would have switched to another brand. Shame that poor customer service has to sour my opinion of a good product. Thankfully Amazon to the rescue, I purchased an entire 5 in1 sensor for not much more than Acurite wanted just to ship me the new temp board. So far happy ending.

Works with existing indoor displays
This is now my third outdoor sensor for the Acu Rite weather system. There seems to be no other system available with these features at this price. This time I bought the outdoor sensor only. I works fine with my existing two indoor sensor/displays.

Good weather station for the price.
Third one I have owed. They don’t last forever but still a good weather station.
