At first I wasn't sure about the accuracy of the scale - but I just went with it and recently, while fishing and having an exceptional day fishing for smallmouth bass,used the scale weighing an assortment of very nice bass - what I realized is that the scale's calculation is spot on as long as you don't leave the fish hanging too long - the scale starts to change (not sure why) so I just took the first reading and left it at that - since I have been bass fishing for a long time, I can "guess-timate" the approximate weight so I'm comfortable with the reading of the scale. The gripper is what I like best - by gripping the lower lip of bass - it immobilizes them long enough to get a reading -other scales rely on a hook and many times, the fish wiggles free from the hook so it takes longer to weigh them and possibly injuring them. As long as you are satisfied with "approximate" weights - the scale works just fine - if you are in a tournament, thhe scale will give you a good idea where your at. If you want totally accurate weights, then you'll have to use a certifed scale. For my purposes, it works great for live on the boat "bragging rights".

Great fishing tool

This product is a great fishing tool, excellent to grab fish and weight them. The scale is very accurate and it is very easy to use it. However, i wish this fish gripper would come with a ruler in order to check the fish lenght too.

Best digital scale I've ever used. Love that it gives pounds and ounces. Doesn't like to work in the cold so don't use it ice fishing.

Rapala Digital Fish Gripper

I caught a Large Mouth Bass the other day and was very excited after realized that caught a beast for a Bass. When proceeded to weighted with this Rapala Digital Fish Gripper I was very disappointed to see in the screen .36oz!!!! not 3.36lbs, .36OZ!!! I turned it off immediately with fish still in hand and again the scale failed miserably giving me a good reading. at the end, I released the fish back to the pond only having an idea that could weighted almost 5lbs. and not .36oz. The time I had to return it has expired so I'm very stuck with an almost $50 piece of garbage that doesn't work. PS, Batteries were brand new.

The gripper worked great but I had the battery cover come off more than once - I ended up taping it so I wouldn't drop it in the water ,otherwise, I was pleased.
