Measurements, how the "VersaClick" works
This is an excellent light pack for hot and humid/rainy weather. The gap at the back with mesh really does help keep it cooler and less sweaty. The padding on the hip straps is ribbed for extra ventilation as well. The nylon is backed with a water-resistant coating. There's easy access to the rain cover, which is easy to put on and take off. The large "shove-it" pouch on the outside of the bag has a vent at the bottom. Thule (pronounced too'-leh by the way) is sketchy about how this women's version of the Capstone pack is different from the men's version, saying only that it's got a different harness and hip belt. They don't look different in the photos and video showing both, so the differences aren't obvious. The size range may be the main or only difference. According to Thule's size chart, the adjustable hip belt of the women's version of this 40-liter Capstone fits a 25-45" waist, while the men's fits 27-47". The women's adjustable torso length is also shorter, from 14-19", while the men's fits 16-21". The rest of the pack is the same. Both the women's and men's hold the same amount of stuff. Adjusting the torso length means moving the shoulder straps up and down on the frame, by pushing a button in the middle of the frame. It's actually pretty nice, does help get an ideal fit. The chest strap is adjustable too, moves up and down about 6" with a firm pull on each side. The stiff frame is 19" top to bottom and 13" across at its widest. Packed normally the bag is about 21" tall and 13" wide, but you can pack it so the bag is as much as 26" tall and 16" wide. The main compartment goes top to bottom, with zippered access about 6" from the bottom and a draw string at the top. Inside the main compartment along the back (the frame) is a pouch 12" across and 15" tall open at the top. Not sure what it's designed for--access is too tight too reach far inside it, and it isn't flat because the frame isn't flat. The lid that comes down over the top has a zippered pouch in it that's the same width and depth as the bag and about 3" tall when filled. There's an open-topped pouch that Thule calls a "shove-it pocket" on the outside that's 14" tall and tapers from 13" wide at top to 8" wide at the bottom with 3" thickness at the sides. The mesh pockets on sides at the bottom are about 7" tall and 5" wide, opening at the upper front at an angle. There's a zippered mesh pocket on the right hip belt, almost 8" long and tapered to fit the belt from 2" to 4" high with some extra fabric all around to allow more space. The lid can be strapped down over the top of the pouch. There are straps all over the outside to keep things in place. About the only thing I miss is that there are no special provisions for camera equipment, laptops or tablets, no padded pockets. No pocket for water bottles either, though they can be attached in other ways, including in a VersaClick holster (available separately). There are loops on the shoulder straps for hydration tubes. The VersaClick system is a couple plastic clip receptacles on the left hip belt that will accept a few separately available accessories like a water bottle holder or zippered purse. This pack comes with the pole holder strap attached to it. How to remove and attach the accessories isn't very clear from the instructions. There's a clip on each side of the attachment (except for the bottle holder, which only has one clip). For each clip you have to lift outward at the bottom of and push or pull upwards. It's pretty stiff, requires a firm hand, at least for the pole holder. To attach something to the VersaClick, you line the clips up with the receptacles and push them in. The pack appears exceptionally well designed and well put together. The nylon material is light (mostly 200-denier) but sturdy (the 200-denier is extra-durable Robic nylon, according to the website). Stitching is tight and secure. Lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. Made in Vietnam.

High quality hiking backpack
I recently had plans to climb Mt. Fuji (a 7 hour climb, for reference) and got this backpack off of Prime with that goal in mind. Overall, the bag was quite good. The size and amount of space is excellent. I was able to fit multiple quart sized water bottles, plenty of snacks, three jackets, a rain poncho, and flashlights into it without feeling like it was a large effort to squeeze everything in. There’s also a small zipper down at the base of the bag, which made it easier to access items packed into the bottom without rummaging through the top. It was convenient. In the damp climate, all of the stuff I carried inside managed to stay dry and unaffected. The fabric of the bag is clearly of good quality, and there’s an extra rain cover slip that can be used if it starts to actively rain. Just as well, I didn’t have any issues with zippers or the buckles. The backpack itself was pretty comfortable to carry. I’m a 5’4” female, and I was told the backpack looked somewhat comically large on me, even after adjusting the main frame on the back of the backpack. But there wasn’t any discomfort along the way. I would actually say that just about anyone could use this backpack. There’s no particular thing about it that made me think men wouldn’t like it. My single complaint would be the lack of small pockets. The large compartment wasn’t divided, and the smaller pocket at the mouth of the main opening is still fairly large. I had to take plastic bags to keep the flashlights and other small tools separate and easily accessible. But that aside, I would highly recommend it.

high quality well designed super fitting backpack, highly recommend
So I went from a Kelty Catalyst 50L to this Thule Capstone and I AM SO GLAD I DID! The 50L was a little big, I thought I needed that much, but I didn't. It was comfortable, and I really thought at the time that it was the cat's meow, but this backpack is way better, and yes, part of that is because this one is designed for women. The Kelty Catalyst I had was non-gender specific, and compared to how this Thule Capstone fits, I can really tell now. Maybe it is because this Capstone is 40L so it is a little smaller, but it has to be more than that, hips, strap placement, it is just so easy and weightless feeling to wear. As it turns out, 40L is plenty of space for my needs, especially given I am not the only adult when we are out and about. I really like all the pockets that are easily accessible while wearing this backpack. The pole holder is not important to me, I should be honest about that, and I cannot see that it is removable either which I would have liked to do. I also really like that I can tuck the shoulder straps away inside the mesh. The mesh and the gap to ventilate my back is super sweet too and actually works, Thule's design was better on this score than on the Catalyst which had mesh but not enough structure to keep the pack from simply resting against the mesh anyway. I should also be honest that I am not adventurous enough to hike in the rain, so the rainfly will likely get little use, though it would be handy to cover the pack while it is not on my back to keep it dry I suppose, but I've only been out in nice weather this year so far, so... This backpack is really quality construction too, and pricing is I think inline with the quality and features, and worth the extra cost over the Kelty Catalyst in my mind.
