I'm pleased with my Winsor & Newton Series 150 Bamboo Short Handle Brush-Round #6 and #2
I'm pleased with Winsor & Newton Series 150 Bamboo Short Handle Brush-Round #6 and #2 (see photo). I bought the #6 first, then, based on use, I bought the #2. I paint watercolor with these, among too many other brushes of all kinds. They have a very fine point and hold a lot of water/paint. The bristles are stiffer than the goat hair (white) ones. I knew that going in. These Asian brush types should to be held properly to get fine lines (see YouTube about Asian brush techniques). They often work better if the paper is more horizontal. Additionally, I see complaints about shedding hairs. These come with a lot of starch or sizing in the bristles. It should be removed gently with warm water and by swishing, not scraping the stiffened bristles against the bottom of a washing container. I have to wonder if that may be the problem many people have. I haven't seen the problem doing it my way. They also came with plastic cap protectors, but I plan to let the brushes dry before storing with the caps. I also find that a good shake after loading the brush with water helps keep the excess water from "flooding" the paper with water or paint. I often "drain" the base of the bristles with a piece of kitchen paper before applying paint. These do hold a lot of moisture....good or bad. They seem to rinse easily, easier than many of my other brushes in the same size. I hope I haven't rambled, but some of the critiques I read leave questions in my mind.

Very useful, wish quality was a bit better
Using this for ceramics to apply slip. The brush holds a lot of thick liquid. It’s working well so far. The only issue is that the wood is not finished well and is very porous and splintery. This makes holding a little uncomfortable and clean up requires drying the whole brush, handle and all. Still, glad to have this tool.

“PAY ABSOLUTELY NO ATTENTION TO ANY 1,2,or 3 * reviews! These are Wonderful Hake Brushes”
These are absolutely wonderful Brushes! If your using them correctly! These types of brushes are “KNOWN FOR” creating washes, and or, spreading a lot of paint around on a “LARGE AREA OR SPACE” you “DO NOT” use these to paint fine details, as I’ve already said these are absolutely perfect for use in washes, or to cover a lot of area in a short amount of time…I’m starting to believe these negative reviews are from people that don’t know what Hake brushes are really used for? Even if a brush loses a few hairs or (whatever is used in making ANY particular brush used in watercolor or acrylic paintings) it does happen! But does that mean you put down the maker or company of said brush because in your painting you experienced the loss of a few hairs? Come on People! That’s life! It happens! For Gods sake! get a clue, nothing and nobody is PERFECT! Only God is Perfect, quit leaving bad reviews over (1) bad experience! That really wasn’t that bad at all! Grow up! Great Company! Wonderful Products! Are they perfect? Of course not! Sometimes mistakes are made…quality control can miss something, it gets Thru, it gets sold to a painter or Artist, so what do you do? Shoot them ? Curse them? Give a Bad review? (4th choice) Or do you text the company with a picture of the brush your unhappy with and give them a chance to make it right? I say the 4th choice is the right choice! Respectfully Yours, Stephen Jeffries Mentor, Ohio

Good brush for watercolor - very pleased
Great brush. Good buy. Not sure what all of the negative reviews are about!! or how people abuse their brushes, but I found this brush to be great. I’m creating nice large wet washes, smooth blends, great texture and dry brush effects. Some bristle loss nothing major (maybe one or two fallout during my entire painting session). No more Loss than any other WN or Princeton or king art gold brush. For the price this brush performs great. Maybe if you buy a $52 brush it may work better. But if you’re looking for something that won’t break the bank Its a good option. I’m using for watercolor. I also take care with my brushes and wash gently and dry after each session. **Also lay FLAT To dry people!**** Otherwise water will creep down Into the glue of the ferrule and ruin brush! All in all very pleased.

I didn't think I'd like it; it's a favorite brush now
I didn't paint a lot of large area watercolour washes, but the hake was recommended, and cheap, and now I find myself using it for fun, and with my best paints. The bristles are soft and easy to control, clean, and dry (flat!). I have a few wide flats that I had struggled with (losing a bristle at the worst possible time), and I know how to clean and dry my brushes, but I'd changed painting techniques just to avoid getting a brush hair in my painting. This is my go to, even on smaller sized paintings. It's excellent at lifting wet paint, as well; those bristles are great!

Cracked.. and kept cracking
The FIRST day I received this, it cracked. By the end of the day, it was cracked higher than in the picture. Got my money back. But, will add, this brush was awesome. Maybe I'll try a new one in the future.

Excellent chinese style brushes
I've tried many chinese brushes and these are the best quality so far. They don't loose hair, hold a lot of pigment and water, keep a very fine point and have some spring back. Excellent both for washes and dry brush work. Can make a good painting with one or two sizes! 1 month later: Made some very good watercolors with these brushes. They are very versatile: washes, dry rush, details. They hold all LOT of paint, keep a fine point and have some snap. Only downside: the bamboo on the smaller one (#2) has cracked and the point as fallen off!| Taped it back together. Not to disapointed because this particular one did not cost much. I'll order more than one to replace it... Worth the money.

Damaged product due to poor packaging
The product received was damaged due to poor packaging. The diagonal lengh of the packaging box was smaller than the length of the brush and hence the fibres were bend and damaged

already losing hairs
I am very careful with my brushes but this brush, which I've only used half a dozen times is losing hair.
