Good Product But
Larger cherries don’t fit otherwise it’s well made and simple to use.

Perfect for Nanking cherries (with mods)
While it may be a bit on the small side for regular sweet cherries (I have a cherry chopper for those), it works perfect for our many Nanking cherries, which are small and have a small pit. However it needs a little modification to really do a great job. First is to get rid of the piece that limits how far down the plunger can go. The plunger needs to come all the way down through the cup. I just clamped a vice-grip on it and bent it back and forth until it snapped off. Then there is the cup itself. The hole is a bit too large for a nanking cherry, many times it just drops through. So I took a standard 1/4 inch washer and modified it to fit into the cup. First I took a 1/4 inch bolt and clamped it upright tight in my bench vise. Then I screwed a 1/4 nut down part way on to it. Then I placed the 1/4 in washer loosely over on top of the nut. Then I took a 1/2 in. nut and placed it over the top of the washer and hit it a number of times with a heavy hammer. This bent the outside edge of the washer down and made it into a cup shape. I took the now cup shaped washer and glued it into the bowl of the pitter. This made the exact right shape to hold the cherry, yet the 1/4 in. hole was the right size to let the small pits go through. Voila! The perfect Nanking cherry pitter. Would probably work for small sour cherries as well.

Perfect for pie (sour) cherries
I have a pie (sour) cherry tree that produces buckets of fruit every year. Most cherry pitters work well for large (sweet) cherries, but the plunger of those units often doesn't hit pie cherries in the right spot. This pitter is just the ticket. I hold the cherry by the stem, slip it into the pitter through the slot in the base, then snick...the pit says with the stem and I let the cherry drop into a bowl (with a little vitamin C to prevent browning). 100% pit removal on the first try for ~5 lbs of cherries today. Pros: - Sized perfectly for small cherries (pie/sour cherries). - The entire plunger has a + shaped cross section: this pushes out the pit without punching out a big plug of fruit. Some other pitters have a curved cylindrical plunger with a + end that tends to pop out a chunk of cherry into the waste bowl. - The slotted tab above the base allows the plunger to retract, releasing the cherry after pitting (dropping the fruit into a bowl). - Nice casting with a non-stick coating (easy to clean by hand). - Lacks the annoying locking mechanism featured in many pitters. (A small plastic collar is included if you like to keep the pitter closed during storage.) - The price can't be beat. Cons: - Might be a bit small for large, sweet cherries.

Works on Olives too!
I use this stoner more often on olives than cherries, and searching comments that mentioned olives showed me there's some controversy connected to olives. I prefer olives with the stones still attached, because I think they are more flavorful. What I use to do with a knife was: make an x on each end of the olive, then turn the knife sideways, put it on top of the olive and hit it with my hand. How hard? That's a task where learning by doing is involved. So much of cooking is made up of such moments. So I'd hit it hard enough to get the stone out, and no harder (I hoped). When I got this stoner, I modified that action. I still put an x on the stem end of the olive, then put that side down in the holder, squeeze, and out comes the stone. I prefer using the stoner over my old system because it does a much neater job of it, less tearing up the olive. So, I can buy what I consider more flavorful olives, stone them just before I put them in a salad, and have an easier and more complete olive when I'm done, and do it more quickly, compared with my old way of doing it. Yay, Westmark, for making this little device. I wish more of cooking was like this. Oh, one more thing. The stoner came with a little plastic sleeve to keep it closed. I saved that, and use it to keep the stoner closed in the drawer. No need to use a rubber band.

Life-changing apparatus
There are many cherry pitters from which to choose. I selected this one due to its simplicity and its construction (metal not plastic). This device is fantastic! After practicing with 5-10 cherries to acquire a "muscle memory", it made quick work of the remaining pound of cherries. 1) In your right hand, hold the pitter over a trash basket. 2) In your left hand, hold the cherry by the stem and place it on the ring sideways so the stem projects to the side. 3) Squeeze the device, thereby ejecting the pit downwards into the trash. There may be a little cherry juice splashing, so don't wear your best white clothes while doing this. After a few tries, you will determine the best position of your right hand along the pitter to provide maximum force with the least effort. 4) With the pitter still in its down, depressed position, pull off the stem and drop it into the trash can below. 5) With the pitter still in its down, depressed position, move your right hand over atop a large bowl. Relax your grip allowing the pitter to open and the cherry to fall into the bowl. 6) Repeat until all your cherries are pitted. After some practice, each cycle takes a few seconds to complete. Note that one out of 15-20 cherries may have the pit still inside or adherent to the outside of the cherry after squeezing the pitter, which temporarily disrupts your assembly line. Before buying this, I had an old, crappy pitter that hurt my fingers and worked very poorly. I dreaded the never-ending task of pitting cherries. Now it's quick, painless, and enjoyable.

Does the Job!
I should have bought a cherry pitter years ago! This tool makes pies and cobblers much easier.

The Best
I use this pitter for charies only, smaller and large. It is excellent. I place a cherry with the area were the stam would be up. Ofter a piece of cherry will be attached to the pit but I simply pinch it off. I used other cherry pitters but this one, Made In Germany, is the best. Today I bought a second one, just in case. Highly recommend.

This thing works great! It's well worth buying. You can pit cherries pretty quickly.

Easy to use, sturdy, cherries may splatter a bit
It needs some strength in your hand to get the pits out and splatters a bit depending on the ripeness of the cherries but it works well and seems sturdy enough to work for a long time.

Brilliant Cherry Stoner
This is an item that is obviously only fit for one purpose - stoning cherries - something you probably do only two or three times a year max, during cherry season if you use fresh cherries in your recipes. So for the rest of the year it sits in your kitchen drawer, taking up space. However, for those two or three times a year you need to stone cherries, it is brilliant! Does the job quickly and efficiently. So much easier and less messy than trying to stone cherries without it.

Does the trick...
Its a weird little tool but works great for pitting cherries. It's not particularly fast but you do get the hang of it, well built and sturdy. I pitted about 4 cups of cherries and popped them in the freezer. They make a great little treat when frozen.

Perfect, reliable, should never need replacing
Brilliant. Bought it for olives as I keep buying the wrong ones by mistake. Now I don't have to worry! I can pit a pizza's worth in seconds :) Seems perfectly dishwasher-proof so far. Comes with a transparent plastic band to keep it shut - I put this on whenever I put it away because space is tight. Haven't yet worked out if it's faster to use it upside-down or right-way-up. Important: this device does not depend on any blades to penetrate the flesh of whatever is being pitted, so is unlikely to blunt. The pitting spike is as if the grooves on a cross-haired screwdriver were extended all down the shaft, and then the tip removed to leave four pointed corners surrounding a concavity. I do not believe I shall ever need to buy a replacement for this item. I shall definitely consider buying these in bulk if I ever go into the stoning business.
