Big improvement over the similar, home-use design
I had a similar Waring home-use unit previously. The absolutely silly 2-foot cord and magnetic easily-detached plug into the unit were a joke. Really, if you pulled this off the counter and dumped 375-degree oil over the kitchen, do you think your biggest concern would be whether it was still plugged into an electric outlet? This (commercial) unit uses the same pull-apart design (holder, controls-plus-heater-coil unit, hot-oil tub) that's easier to clean than the one-piece Fry-Daddy-style hot oil units. It has a nice, thick power cord that 's MORE than 2 feet long and doesn't have a ridiculous magnetic fastener. Although home dishwashers have a limited capacity and you won't be able to wash the tub and holder together, they're still relatively easy for cleanup. It has a slightly bigger capacity than the home-owner version so you can load more product into the fry basket. On the down side, like some other evaluators, I found that the actual oil temperature was a little lower than the temperature-control setting, even after it signaled 'Ready'. The other item to mention is the lid is designed to be removed when you're frying. I'm guessing that's S.O.P. in commercial environments, but it would be nice to be able to cover up the unit while it's frying , with maybe a filtered outlet for the steam. I should also mention that, despite its shortcomings, our old home-use unit worked faithfully for years, and is now living at my daughter's house. I expect this commercial unit will be equally reliable. This comes with one large fry basket and 2 small ones that will fit side-by-side. I haven't yet found a use for the side-by-side baskets, but they look cute.

Waring WDF 1000
Overall very pleased with this fryer. Very good quality, the large basket is great, however, I can't bring my oil,up to 390 degrees as advertized. Using 2 different thermometers I'm only reaching 350-355 degrees. Waring's customer service said this can be corrected but I need to send it in to have it done. If they fix it, I will be extremely pleased with this unit. Others have made comments about how hard it is to clean. I have not found that to be true. If you clean it in a timely fashion, it's not bad at all. I'm guessing if you choose to let it sit overnight before cleaning it, it may be a little more difficult, but no worse than any other fryer!

Solid deep fryer
Heats quickly, maintains temperature fairly well, difficult to clean as they all are, seems well made, adequate capacity, way overpriced.

Overpriced. Will not hold temperature while frying.

We're very happy we bought this one
We've wanted a deep fryer for many years. We've looked at many but never purchased one for various reasons. We're very happy we bought this one. We don't often fry our food but when we do, it's an 'event'. We do a bunch of shrimp, hush puppies, and fries or we'll do chicken fried steak and fried okra and invite family and friends. We had been using a propane burner and a deep pot and thermometer and we cooked outside. It was a lot of set up and the weather was not always cooperative. Well, we used the Waring fryer yesterday...set it up on the deck, plugged it in and fried to our hearts' content. If we'd needed to, we could have easily brought it inside. Each batch we fried was consistent and cooked to perfection. The temperature was steady and then the clean up was much easier than using the propane burner. We've figured out the storage and can easily retrieve it and fry again. Highly recommend.

Fix for low temps
Was ready to send back because it did not reach the claimed 390F max temp, but was able to hack it. All of these electric deep fryers have a temperature probe that the thermostat uses. I observed that the heating until seemed to turn off too soon, so I figured the probe was in a hot zone. Just slide out the center probe and attach further away from the heating element with a stainless steel binder clip and presto... I can reach 400+. Just be careful to use high burn point oil and test the placement of the probe so you don't hit the burn point.

Shop on.....
I thought I was purchasing a "commercial" quality countertop appliance ( I know, I know, commercial quality for under $300.00 does not compute). If this is commercial , I wouldn't want to see a light duty unit. It was well packaged and arrived undamaged, on-time. My disappointment began shortly after opening the packaging and evaluating the contents. Three words came to mind and won't leave......CHINCY, CHINCY, AND CHINCY. I was not the least surprised to find "Made In China" all over the appliance and carton, and this is a point I feel - no, I demand - Amazon should address. The country of manufacture should be disclosed for every item they take part in marketing. I would never have bought it had this been disclosed. Global economy be damned. I can't believe that a reasonable quality, comparably sized unit can't be built here in the USA for say $400.00 to $500.00. I would gladly pay this. If anyone can direct me to such a fryer feel free to do so. All components of this fryer are flimsy, from the very light-weight gauge of all the stainless steel, the plastic handles on the lid/baskets/frame, the nearly weightless heating assembly, the tiny pop rivets holding the main body together, to the poor plating on the brackets. To use the word 'commercial' anywhere near this item is a completely inappropriate use of the term. Whoever labeled this as such is delusional. The build quality is about in the same league as a modern-day disposable toaster. No, I didn't even try it yet, but even if it does manage to perform reasonably well, I would still only give it two stars for the egregious misrepresentation of it's sturdiness. I predict durability to be short-lived.
