Top Quality, Impressive Flow, Very Quiet
UPDATE 7/25/22: 4 Years and still going quiet and strong! I highly recommend this unit over taking a chance on something less expensive. --------------- This is a very solidly built fan at a great price. I purchased this fan to improve airflow into a room in my two-story 1901 farmhouse. The original ducting to the upstairs was adequate, save for a restriction to a bedroom that overheats in the summer. Although the ducting to the deficient room is only 7", installing this fan with the necessary 8x7" expander and reducer has done the trick to balance things out. On high speed it will pull all available flow from the other two 7" duct registers off of a 10" main duct. Setting the separately purchased speed controller to medium however seems to provide the perfect balance, cutting airflow to the other registers by about half, and more than doubling airflow to the deficient one. This fan is extremely quiet for the airflow it provides, and 10 feet back from the register, it is completely inaudible inside the house aside from the slight increase in air noise at the register. There is no motor hum or whine, and as others have stated, the balance is as good as it gets with bearings that will let it free spin very easily. The mounting brackets are stamped aluminum sheet and very solid with the option to mount inline or perpendicular to the direction of flow. Complaints over inlet ducting attachment are not warranted, as this is NOT designed to be used to connect inline with flexible ducting directly. It moves enough air that potential restrictions upstream of the fan could be a risk for collapsing flexible ducting. You can do it, but it could create problems that you should be aware of. Ideally, rigid ducting should be attached at the inlet with self-tapping sheet metal screws and sealed with HVAC rated duct sealing tape. I would absolutely recommend this fan, along with the Hydrofarm speed controller, to anybody considering an inline booster. I have mine setup on a SmartThings controlled outlet with triggers dependent upon both my Ecobee 4 thermostat, whole house fan, and window/door open states.

High-Quality Construction, Great Airflow, Quiet and Smooth
I just purchased this fan as a replacement for a Vivosun that failed after 30 days; I am extremely pleased with this unit. I installed the fan as an in-line booster for my central heat, as my rear bedrooms had extremely low airflow as compared to the rest of the house. Very solid metal construction, including the blade. I didn't think much of this when shopping originally until the Vivosun with a plastic blade failed entirely--the plastic blade actually just tore itself apart from the driveshaft, apparently over a period of about a month. Looking at the design of the Hydrofarm, that should not be possible and I am counting on a long lifespan. The Vivosun actually had better specs when it came to CFM and decibel level, but I will say unequivocally that this fan moves more air and is significantly quieter. One minor point--This fan is apparently intended to feed directly into a duct and is not really an inline design. The exhaust is fluted to match with a standard 8" duct, but the intake is very shallow. I had no problem installing this as an in-line duct fan, but it did take a little extra tape and patience to get the intake duct securely mounted to the fan housing. Again, not a huge deal. I'll see how this holds up but my first impressions are very favorable. UPDATE: Nearly three years later, this thing is running as beautifully as the day I installed it. I have had absolutely no issues after heavy daily use pushing hot air from my furnace into the air ducts. Highly recommended.

These are GREAT fans.
I bought one of these to replace a typical, cheap Home Depot attic fan. I have them mounted just under the gable vents, pointing upward, to help move the hot air out of the attic. This fan is MUCH better than Home Depot or Lowes offerings, and is VERY well made! I was VERY IMPRESSED by the build quality and the amount of air it moves. Solid construction. It spins forever after you turn it off, which tells you the ball bearings are fairly high quality. I liked it so much that I purchased a 2nd one a week later! The fan is a bit noisy up close, but I can barely hear it with the attic stairs closed. I did mount it on a thin rubber strip to help dampen vibration and noise, and that seemed to help a bit. I'm using a $15 light timer to run the fans now, with plans to use a thermostat once I find a good cheap used one. In Houston this summer the ambient outdoor temperature is running 96-102 degrees F, and these two fans are helping to keep my attic below 120-F (along with a spray-in radiant barrier and move eave vents). Before I had these fans my attic temp was 130-F or more.

Very pleased.
I ordered this fan to create constant air flow thru a small bathroom so towels dry during the damp months. Bit the bullet on the higher cost after trying a cheap but very noisy in-duct 4" fan that moved a pitiful amount of air. This unit is a LOT quieter and moves maybe ten times more air. (Order the Active Air Speed controller to go with it.) The fan cord has a plug for a wall outlet and there are metal brackets to mount the fan. The fan is heavy and well made so you need something decent to mount it to. You can get a very significant noise reduction by cutting out a foot of metal duct, mounting this fan to a structure that the duct is NOT mounted to, and connecting this fan to the metal ductwork with flexible plastic dryer hose stretched tight so it does not restrict air flow. This keeps any vibration from sounding all thru your ductwork. Use the speed control to adjust air movement, and air movement noise to the desired level. This moves more air thru a 4" duct than the furnace does when it kicks on. Very pleased.

Solid Blowers
We are using two of these blowers to push hot air from a green house ceiling underground through a pea gravel bed. Both have been working very well and our green house has been above freezing all winter! We do wish they had an inlet flange to attach ducting to. It is rather difficult to adapt an inlet duct, but not impossible...

Excellent product. Well built
Excellent product. Well built. Moves a lot of air. Quiet. My only concern is for being an in-line fan there is only a good lip to attach the pipe to on the one side. On the other there is no room to screw the duct on without hitting the squirrel cage, so we taped it on. Should have had more of a lip like the one side has. Other than that, great product.

Excellent build quality
Excellent build quality, terrific bearings. I was alarmed by the sound when first testing it, sounded like an aircraft! As soon as the vent hose was attached and filter to the other end it was quiet. Temperature in the greenhouse dropped dramatically, moves loads of air fast. Highly recommended!
