Old versus new version UCO Clarus
I had bought one of the original versions of the UCO Clarus from amazon atUCO Clarus 150 Lumen LED Mini Lantern and Flashlight with Dimmer and Strobe for myself a little while ago, and I have subsequently bought this new version of the UCO Clarus as a present. I like them both and think they would be useful for camping or around the house during a power outage. This is the only flashlight/lantern combo light I have so I can't really compare it to any other options out there. The bell shape makes it a little odd to carry in a leg pockets due to the bell edge being the main pressure contact point to the body. I usually carry it in a coat pocket which isn't too bad, and if carried in a pack it doesn't take up much space at all. I sort of wish the hanging ring was on the other side of the light at the button instead of the front lens so it could be hung shining downward from a carabiner, but there is enough of an edge that a piece of paracord or twine can accomplish that if desired. The main difference I can see is that the new version flashlight mode has a more diffuse spot and the sides appear to illuminate more than the old version flashlight mode. The older version seems to maintain its spot for a longer distance outside, but either should work fairly well if you're just trying to light the path in front of you. I didn't see too much difference between the two in lantern mode but I didn't take them both out for extended outdoor experience. According to the description on amazon, the new version claims to have notable longer run time compared to the older version, but I didn't due a full run time test. If more light power is needed for distance sight at night, I think it would probably be better to look for some other solution than a AAA battery powered camp light. I think this product does what it intends to do well. Since I had both in my possession for a time, I decided to take some pics of both of them. I first fully charged some eneloop AAA batteries to make sure both lights had equal power. My old version had not been used much at all yet so any LED life degradation should be negligible. Attached are six pics of high/mid/low of both flashlight and lantern mode from inside a room at night. The flashlights are at approx three feet from the wall spot target. The lantern mode is from near the wall. The old is on the left and the new is on the right in each image. The pics were taken with the "auto" mode setting on the camera so there may be some camera auto-adjustment of the light effect, but hopefully they are good enough to help evaluate the difference between the two versions since any camera effect would apply to both new/old at the same time.

It is also a self defense Kubotan in the hand! Completely functional in all aspects.
This product is versatile, well-built, and a necessary item. Light-weight even with disposable lithium batteries. You can wrap black 3M electrical tape, or grip tape around the unit to maintain rigidity (and a full closed position) for Kubotan use in as pictured, then remove it when necessary to use as a lantern. Always guard the switch membrane as much as possible. Just buy it. No brainer.

Very good. I wish for a few more features.
Very nice lantern-flashlight. I keep it in my scooter and really appreciate the strobe function for emergency stops at night. This was a good value and I would buy it again. But here are some features I wish this lantern had: 1. 118 lumens is great but it shines too bright through the translucent top cap. The only way I can enjoy the light is to hang it above my head. 2. I wish this had infinite dimming capability and I wish the on/off/dimming button were on the side rather than the bottom so I could adjust the light while it is sitting or hanging better. 3. I wish it would save the last setting, but instead it defaults to the brightest setting making me cycle through to get the setting I want. 4. I wish the foot were a larger diameter. This lantern is fairly tall and thin and tips over easier. Having said all that, I am very happy to have this lantern at such a good price and I would buy it again.

Great Versatile Lumination
I have several of these positioned in different rooms for an easy grab, even when the lights don't go out. When you walk into an open door during a blackout and need stitches, you learn the hard way to be prepared. The power level variations also make a great night light when traveling. In most cases, it's also my go-to light for close-up situations. Many flashlights are too bright for that work and wind up being uncomfortably overpowered. This one does the job nicely!

Works great to light up your whole tent or campsite in lantern mode, or to use as a flashlight. Quite bright. Very small. Sturdy. I can't say anything bad about them.

EXCELLENT light for the price (and even at twice the price).
This thing is just as described. It's super bright, lightweight, reasonably rugged and durable, and water resistant. It's smaller than I expected, but that's a good thing. It's frankly tiny, and puts out an astonishing amount of light for its size and weight. It actually functions decently in both lamp and flashlight mode (in my experience most of these hybrid lights are good lanterns but crappy flashlights). I'm very happy with it. I can't speak to the battery life yet, I haven't used it that much, but I expect it will be as described, more or less. I'm VERY happy with this purchase, and plan to buy several more. These are PERFECT for BOBs and GHBs, as well as for camping. It's also great for at home when the power goes out - one of these nicely lights up an entire large room on high.

Relaible no fuss outdoor personal lamp or small table
The light functions well, reasonable for what it is. It feels fairly low for the lumens it is specified for, but the small form and conversion capability is nice. UCO is a good brand, makes great outdoor gear, so guess it will have the longer term reliability.

klein aber fein
Die Lampe war ein Geschenk und Wunsch des Beschenkten. Wir waren aber alle erstmal ein wenig verwundert, wie klein das Lämpchen ist. Aber es funktioniert einwandfrei und leuchtet auch gut in der Stellung. Die Bedienung ist einfach und es hat eine kleine Metallaufhängung, die man an einen Haken oder so hängen kann. Ganz praktisch. Wenn man davon absieht, dass die Lampe wirklich klein ist, erfüllt sie alle Erwartungen.
